That's the most validating thing I've heard in years. "Their victims don't know. They're just props fulfilling their fantasy". That's exactly what it's like to be involved in any capacity with a sociopath. Particularly in any type of close relationship with one. And it's very damaging. They aren't all murders either.

Nobody will ever know what went on inside Jeffrey's mind from the time he was born, until the day he was murdered. If he perceived them as wrong, especially very young, he was never going to tell anyone. Think about your own private thoughts, you don't share everything and neither did he. We will never know when the thoughts actually began. Once caught he only told what he wanted to. There was a lot more to this than we will ever know.

I think I prefer the term closure instead of forgiveness. Anger is instrumental for consolidating energy to change something. When change is impossible however (if the trauma lies in the past for example), anger can prevent you from healing fully, especially when it turns into bitterness. But really every emotion has its place, so long as we let it pass on when its time for it.

I'm sorry, but if your son is collecting dead animals, how do you not know that maybe he wanted to become a biologist or a veterinarian? We dissect animals in biology and that's acceptable. We all find the goodness in our kids no matter what. If he had found the head in the box than obviously that would have been the game changer. Kids are very curious about things as they are growing up ...if he was killing the animals himself then I would say that was a red flag.

I feel like Dr. Phil played it in the both fields. He was nice while taking the interview with Dahmer's father and then he was on another side while being on his playgound. What Jeffrey Dahmer did is extremely wrong and for that I agree. They were red flags and his father really saw some of them in my own opinion but around the horrible marrige he was going trough and the fact his wife was overdosing with all sorts of pills wasn't easy for him either. I get the idea that after awhile J. Dahmer got older and maybe his father wasn't sure how to handle the situation and that's why he dicided to send him to the military with the hope that his son will eventually get back on the right road but it didn't work. From what I've heard from my parents and seen on TV back in the days ( his time ) people we're dealing with their problems in a totally different way. They often did not deal with their problems by seeking help from others which is also a mistake. I can only place a bet that's 50/50 if his father knew about the plastic bags and the road kills or not. It's hard to believe that none of their neighbour saw J. Dahmer collecting dead animals remains from the road and not telling his parents about it since he was doing it for months or years. He might've tried to change his son's path in a way that wasn't working and at the same time he didn't want to believe what his son was really doing. He closed his eyes but at the same time he was trying to help him and he wasn't sure how. Let's not forget that his father told him to go in the militery and after he got back he had no clue about his drinking problem. Yes. You can spot a person with a drinking problem very easy but he's a serial killer ( people say their mind work in different way, right? ) and with that reason I do believe that J. Dahmer was able to hide his problems well enough. His father is aware that they do not communicate very often and that they don't have that deep son and father connection. His mother didn't care much and none of the 'guests' on the show said her name once. Where was she when this was happening? "The way he grabbed that dog" like what do you mean? If you open youtube these days and type dog/cat compilations or funny moments you're going to see tons of videos with kids handeling animals in the same way or worse, are they serial killers as well? For a boy that's 6-7 years old I don't think grabbing a dog in this way is a red flag. Some people are smart at age 7 and some people doesn't have their IQ pumped to the roof. I'm not a doctor but from this video I've seen so many wrong comments. I'm not the person who has to forgive J. Dahmer for what he did and I don't have a say on that. I just want to make myself clear that from my prespective I didn't like how Phil stated everything. I'm very sorry for the families who lost their sons and daughters I don't know how much pain they feel and I don't want to know. It's their right to forgive or not forgive J. Dahmer for what he did and the same goes for what they believe in. Ofc. Jeffrey's father would spill a lie or two just because that's his son and in a way he'll try everything to clear his name or protect him if you're are father you'll do the same for your children. I'm not a fan of J. Dahmer. What he did is incredably wrong and unthinkable. P.S: Everyone have their own opinion and a point of view. If you're going to tag me on a comment, please don't be toxic/rude just because I said the things that we're in my mind. The story has tons of different roads and opinions and I'd be happy to hear yours, just be polite.

I dont think his father is to blame. You cant spot and prevent all evil in the world. Psychopaths are also masters at hiding. I knew lots of kids in my childhood, who collected skulls, bones and looked for animal remains. Lots of kids do it. The problem begins when you do weird stuff with it like some type of disrespectful desecration, nailing them and of course killing/ torturing the animals yourself.

There's nothing inherently wrong with collecting roadkill. Do you know some families pick up roadkilled deer and feed their family with it? Do you know that before we had factories full of fake meat, people would have to go out and hunt for actual food? Trying to insinuate that exposure to dead animals caused this is so beyond stupid. Always looking for something to point the finger at. If he played video games, you'd point the finger there. Sexual degeneracy has more to do with it than roadkill.

They didn't say Jeff murdered his son. I believe that he said he "lost his family" as in the family separated due the consequences of his trauma affecting them or something like that. Did some digging and I believe his son also murdered and raped 2 women. There's a comment from someone who's supposedly his son's half-sister saying she believes that what happened to Billy affected his son so much he became a murderer and rapist himself. It's all from unverified sources but the supposed sun (Vernon Kip Capshaw) does live in the same place as Billy and has the same last name so I do believe it could be true and it would align with dr Phil saying he's sorry about his son.

I think a lot of people don’t understand kids that live out in the country and how we can be fascinated with animals and how they look. My cousin and I, at around 8 years old used to look for dead animals in the woods so that we could clean the bones and try to reassemble the skeleton. It was neat looking the way the bones fit together. Now in days every time we shoot a deer the whole family helps butcher it. We look at all the organs and different cuts of meat. The kids thought that it was so cool how the tendons pull the leg back and forth it’s not abnormal to find an interest in those types of things. So I believe the father was probably relieved to hear that some of his friends did the same. They just didn’t know about the disturbing parts of Jefferys adventures. Who would automatically assume their child that they’ve raised since birth is insane and capable of killing and torturing? Just because they spent time alone in the woods and collected dead animals? I would assume my kid was doing the same thing I did when I was a kid.

I actually used to do the same thing and still do, where I’d go around and collect dead animals. We’d bury the bones, then a few months later dig them up and bleach them. We even had beetle boxes a one point. I have a really cool collection of skulls, including boar skulls, alligator skulls, an assortment of fossilized bones even from animals that don’t exist anymore. In fact right after hurricane Ian just a few weeks ago I found a opossum skull and a rat skull in the mangroves that have been destroyed, and thus all the bones were easy to find. There were also raccoon bones. So that to me isn’t weird at all. But when he starts desecrating remains by nailing them up or being disrespectful with them or sourcing them by killing animals himself…. That is rucking problematic!

It is so wrong on so many levels to blame the father (Lionel Dahmer). It is completely conceivable that Mr. Dahmer didn't know about his son collecting dead animals. Parents are very aware now of everything their kids are doing, but this was a very different time - the 60s and 70s - when it was very common for kids to roam around and play outside for hours at a time without their parents knowing what they were doing. That was even happening in the 80s when I grew up. Plus they lived in a rural part of Ohio where that would have been even more common than in the urban areas. Even Jeffrey Dahmer himself said multiple times that he is solely responsible for his terrible acts and that his parents are completely innocent and bear no responsibility for what he did.

Forgiveness seems a very strange subject - how can we forgive Jeffrey for what he has done? Is it just so the families involved can cope better? It is a shame Jeffrey had to suffer from fantasies that drove him to do this but forgiveness doesn't seem natural (it is religious beliefs which make it sound right). We need to find answers to stop this from happening again. If he could have been treated so his disorder didn't make him want to do these things, then it seems sensible that we should forgive him. If Jeffrey had been cured he probably would have needed long-term counseling to cope with his monstrous past. I think this is why he drank so much, so it was easier to act out his horrible fantasies. Weirdly, he didn't do it for one whole year and claimed he just didn't get the opportunity but if the fantasies were so strong, he surely would have made the time. I wonder if anything that year decreased his condition, seems strange he could cope with not doing gross things for so long. Maybe he looked at less porn for whatever reason which decreased the fantasies.

If I had a dime for every time you've espoused, "I'm the least judgemental person I know" I'd be a millionaire! Well not on this show you weren't! Not one person up there showed one ounce of empathy for that man. Just THINK what he's been through.... Loving his son who did these awful things. I've studied the Dahmer case extensively and know the agony this man must have every waking moment of his life since his son's crimes were exposed. Everyone on that stage should be ashamed how you treated that man and the contempt in your voices. HE didn't hurt your relatives and that's his SON you're expecting him to condemn and say bad things about. It's sure easy to be a judge and jury AFTER THE FACT. Shameful. My heart goes out to that man. He needs to stop going on these shows whose only goal is to try to get him to say hurtful things about a son that he loved. Where is your empathy and compassion for God's sake? I found your treatment and condemnation of him disgusting.

And what's with the wanting to honor Jeffrey Dahmer's wishes to be creamated??? Jeffrey Dahmer disrespected all those body's but his father fought to give Jeffrey an honorable cremation?????????? Yea that father is the problem. I have a suggestion for this guy. Since he believes in forgiveness so much, go strike up a friendship with the great hero Christopher Scarver. Hey Lionel go give Chris Scarver a huge. Go put some money Chris Scarver's books. Give Chris Scarver's kids and family some money. Post a picture of you hugging the great Chris Scarver since you're so obsessed with forgiveness. Practice what you preach or shut up. I forgive Chris Scarver for ended the life of your monster since you have such a crazy obsession for forgiveness. He mentions nothing about forgiving my hero Chris Scarver for ending the life of notorious monster Jeffrey Dahmer. Typical selfish guy. Since he's so obsessed with forgiveness, I want to see him strike up a real loving friendship with Chris Scarver. Practice what you preach Mr. Dahmer. Beg the state of Wisconsin to release Chris Scarver. FREE CHRIS SCARVER! FREE CHRIS SCARVER! FREE CHRIS SCARVER!!! If we're going to forgive the monster Jeffrey Dahmer who killed and tortured 17 INNOCENT people including a poor kid then by logical deduction we must also forgive The Great Christopher Scarver who only killed 3 people, 3 guilty, horrible sounding people I might add. Actually Chris only killed 2 people, I don't consider the 3rd to really be a person. I'm closer to a real cop than the actual cops. I would have busted Ole Jeffrey on my first opportunity.
