Victims and survivors of Jeffrey Dahmer say they want people to see him for who he really was -- not the glamorized TV version. See a never-before-aired interview with Dahmer’s father and stepmother that sheds light on the monster behind the man. They provide chilling details about his bizarre childhood behaviors. Plus, the Netflix series Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story pushed a decades-old story into today’s spotlight, some say giving it a 2022 “pop culture moment.” After the series debuted, Dahmer’s infamous glasses went up for sale for $150,000, and people dressed up as the notorious serial killer for Halloween. Has our culture’s obsession with true crime desensitized us? (21314)

It's not just that he was manipulative. I love how the show expressed how ONCE AGAIN cops drop the ball, whether or not racism or homophobia played a role (as it usually does). Most documentaries I watch highlight how the police, govt, justice system has failed time and time again.

I mean yeah, there are cases of this happening quite commonly. And in a good amount of these, it is due to negligence. But when that's just your perspective, it doesn't cover those that are stopped by law enforcement or the government. I knew a lot of people in special operations or government agencies who cared more than the rest and actually put all their time and effort into this kind of stuff and were successful in stopping plenty of attacks. That stuff just doesn't get highlighted. So I think that you aren't wrong, and those shitbags who drop the ball should get pushed out. But don't discount those who actually lose sleep tracking, investigating, and killing/arresting these evil people.-

The case with Dhamer is like cancer; it's not just one or two factors that cause cancer to develop, but rather, multi factors - from genetics and biological changes to environmental factors and emotional issues that combined have resulted in the aberration he turned into. People need to understand that there is a lot more to mental health than just because you didn't get beaten as a child automatically means it wasn't that bad, and my experience something that was very miniscule to everyone else around me felt like the end of the world, if I didn't have the support system I had I probably would have ended up hurting someone else because I was so close to hurting myself beyond repair at that point, just because they didn't get physically abused or sexually assaulted or beaten with a belt for disobeying their parents all the time doesn't mean it's not that bad. If we normalized mental health Maybe people wouldn't turn out this way and would actually have a chance at life, Jeffrey Dahmer didn't seem to have much of a chance. I only feel sympathy for the fact that something could have changed in his life that could have made him not be like this, other than that I don't feel sympathy for murderers or rapists or abusers.

Many families have conformational biases. I know my wives family has told me personally (many times) that if any of their daughters committed a crime they would cover for her and be with her even if guilty and would visit them in prison daily. That’s sweet but in my opinion also wrong and it makes me uneasy. I know they would never believe me if something occurred. I get that we must protect and defend our own but idk where the blurred line between defending and enabling is drawn. I know many families are like that. Mine isn’t. Mine would make me take responsibility for my actions but would also be deeply hurt that I committed something so wrong. They wouldn’t cover for me at all. They wouldn’t give me the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps it’s because my dads a hard A. No idea. But that’s also taught me to walk in the straight and narrow and be upright with the law and life in general, even if sometimes it would be much easier to have so much support that you don’t feel consequences or are above it all. I think Jeff felt this way. I’ve also met now many people who also feel like rules do not apply to them but they want others to follow their rules. Some of the worse bosses I’ve had have had similar attributes. And I’ve also come to realize that personality traits do not discriminate or segregate base on job, skin, race or social class. I’ve had amazing bosses doing construction and unstable psychopaths working in PhD/MA/higher educated level settings.

Parents had nothing to do with his sons crimes, the mob mentality today.🙄 That was the 90’s parents were too busy with their own problems, parents today are worst. Leonel loved his son and tried to help him but the judge didn’t help either. YOU keep an eye on your children today and help them, this only serves so that maybe history doesn’t repeat itself.
