The JF-17 fills a niche in the market of low-cost modern fighters, while at the same time having a respectable level of combat capability. As a result, the Sino-Pakistan JF-17 has a high impact on the military balance relative to its cost.

It's successful at the goal it tries to achieve. It cost only 1/3 as much as the latest variant of F-16, fully loaded weight is only half that of F-16, payload is also only half, but combat radius is double that of F-16, and max speed is mach 1.8 instead of F-16's 1.2 at sea level. It carries a larger and more capable AESA radar compared to F-16, and armament, especially beyond visual range, is better. Sure, the payload is pretty bad, even compared to F-16 which is already a light fighter, but the quality of that payload helps, especially coupled with its better radar, enabling it to see, shoot and flee before the opponent. Pl-15's 200km range matches well with AESA radar's detection range, while all but the latest block of F-16, which isn't even being mass produced, don't have AESA, and the one that does has a downsized version due to size and power limitations of the 1970s airframe. The combat radius means you have the versatility of sending it further, providing air cover to more places, and get there faster. It's just flat out more useful in a practical sense. This isn't the Mig-21 that banana republic get because they can't afford anything else. This is actually better than its opponent in many ways that matter. It's only downside, the low payload, is really unavoidable due to them making it so small and light to cut cost. They had to compromise somewhere, and low payload is a good one, in order to preserve the larger AESA radar, longer combat radius, and higher max speed.

Would not agree that F-16 is light fighter anymore. Yes, first version (A/B) were, but F-16 got so much uprgrades threw there (C/D and E/F) and got so more extra capabilities that at this point, F-16 to me looks more like "medium" fighter, something in between heavy fighter like F-16 and light fighters like JAS-39 and JF-17.

Oh boy... F-16 is faster, can not only carry more weapons but better weapons and it has ridiculously better radaar like it is not even remotely close... First of all you compare the top speed in perfect conditions of JF-17 compaared to F-16 at sea level? Like what? The top speed of F-16 is mach 2+. The radar on the KLJ-7 can only see targets with RCS of 5m2 at 150km. In comparison AN/APG-83 can detect targets at 370km! The AN/APG-81 can detect ttargets at an RCS of 1m2 at 150km so the 83 should be equal or better. So same range and AT LEAST 5 times less RCS! Excluding how many targets they can detect and how many targets they can engage. But the radars of the 80 family can detect over 20 targets at once. The 83 can engage 19 targets at once! The PL-15E has a range of 145km. In comparison the 120D has a range of 160km. So don''t come here and say that oh it has superior weapons. No! The F-16 not only has significantly better radar that allows it to see but also the weapons that it has access to are capable of shooting before the enemy. Not to mention that one of tne missiles is aactually made by a nation that was engaged in real war scenarios against real enemies and used real missiles to shoot real targets. The other missile is made by a country that only knows tales of what a modern war is! On all your points you are wrong!

JF17 block 3 uses PL15E, as you stated. PL15E have AESA radar, giving then greater capabilities than any AIM120 variant. In fact, the entry into PLAAF service in 2016 of this missile prompted the US to accelerate the development and induction of AIM-240.

Firstly, the aim 240 is actually the aim 260. That missile will enter operational service very, very soon. Secondly, the amraam is only outranged by the latest Chinese air to air missile and with CEC and decades of institutional knowledge to back up its development, is probably much smarter. The Korean War was decades ago, frankly, we have come very far from then in air to air middle tech.

JF-17 resulted from refusal of US to sell more F16 to Pakistan due to its nuclear programme. JF-17 is meant to be a affordable multi role, new airframe. Best thing about it is the chinese weapons that come with it and ability to enhance it with time. US only supplied F16 to Pakistan as it needed Pakistan's support to expell Soviet Union from Afghanistan.

Pakistan wants the technology transfer so that it can build its own jets. That's real sticking point because the Americans will not offer the technology transfer with their planes while the Chinese will with their J-17. The Indians are doing the same with their French and Russian partnerships on the fighter and missile programs.

The F-16's maximum flight speed is not much different from most second-generation fighter jets, about M2; but its maximum flight speed is high, up to 1480 km/h. Due to the high thrust-to-weight ratio and low wing loading of the F-16 aircraft, its maneuverability is quite good. The horizontal acceleration performance of the F-16 before M1.5 is quite good. At an altitude of 6,000 meters, it takes only 19 seconds to accelerate from Mach 0.9 to Mach 1.2, and 48 seconds to accelerate to Mach 1.5. The F-16 has a large available lift coefficient, high thrust-to-weight ratio, and low wing load, so the instantaneous hovering angular velocity is relatively high. When flying at ultra-low altitude and low speed, its instantaneous circling angular velocity can reach 25.5 degrees per second. The stable circling performance is also good. When the flight speed is M0.7, its circling radius is only 650 meters. When the flying altitude exceeds 11,000 meters, especially when flying at supersonic speed, its hovering performance declines more obviously.

I have been following JF17 development very closely since 2008. I have not seen any evidence that block 1 aircraft were updated to block 2 standard. That would require at least major overhaul of Block 1 aircraft and very few Block 1 have been overhauled. The first one was 2019 or 2020. A key change between Block 1 and 2 was strengthening of wing spurs and that can not happen without major overhaul.

@ImranKhan-ty6mx
@ImranKhan-ty6mx Жыл бұрын
@@umarchaudhry8953 major overhaul would not happen until at least 1200 hrs of flight, according information from PAC. Total hours flown by the JF17 fleet was reported by PAF in 2019 or 2020 as 50,000 hours. At that time there were 112 Jf17s in service. So it is impossible that most of the block 1s would have exceeded 1000 hours. In fact, the first major overhaul of JF17 was completed in China in 2020 or 2021. It is possible that some block 1 have been upgraded to block 2, but not many. There are no publc reports from PAC Kamra or PAF claiming that makor overhauling has stsrted in Pakistan. It is very likely that major overhaul in Pakistan has begun, but there are no images or official press releases. This makes it uncertain to as to how many major overhauls have taken place. If a image is released of unit 135 being overhauled, we can assume all of 101-119 have been overhauled and some of the 120-134 have been overhauled.

Fun facts about JF17 - 1) Dubai 2021, LIMA 2019, Bahrain 2016. Each time the Tejas participated in an air show, the Pakistani team cancelled their JF17 participation, ceded participation fee and ran away 2) The Chinese do not use it and only export to poor countries 3) The all metal airframe has poor manufacturing quality resulting in an availability of approx 40% for Pakistan Air Force 4) Even after buying 150 of jf17 the PAF still relies mainly on the American f16 and has also started buying Chinese J10 fighter aircrafts 5) JF17 Block 1 and 2 do not have AESA radar, no in flight refueling, only two dimensional fly by wire, all metal body causing high weight, low thurst weight ratio, older electronics and only Chinese weapons to fire 6) The newer block 3 jf17 variant has a cheaper air cooled AESA radar unable to operate at max power and hence lower range. Further, block 3 retains the same Russian rd93 based engines, uses cheaper air cooled AESA radar and same metal body and build quality

Hence the Resemblance with the F-20 Grumman withdrew from this JV after Tainanmen Incident, leaving 🇵🇰🇨🇳 to work on the project without US Company. Before the JF-17 and F-16, the only capable fighter jets the PAF had were the J-6, F-86, Mirgae III and F-104. The f-104s were retired due to the lack of spare parts, the f-86s were retired in 1980 because of their old air frames, thus leaving the Mirage III as Pakistan’s only remaining capable fighter jet along with the J-6 until the J-6 was itself retired in 2002, so basically the PAF had the Mirage III, new Mirage Vs (attack aircraft), J-7, and the B-57 which were retired in 1985. So it basically made sense for the PAF to purchase the F-16 and to start producing the JF-17 just to make up for the aircraft it retired like the old Sabres, Starfighters ans Canberra bombers and for any F-16 it couldn’t purchase. I'm guessing this aircraft is "affordable" only if it's not flown much, and the airframe isn't stressed often if at all in training if the estimated life is only low to mid thousands of hours. Probably its initial version was uncompetitive even to Pakistan's aging F-16 fleet but with versions of China's latest electronics which Pakistan has no access, it's likely at least competitive particularly when compared to potential adversaries which generally meant India's few Soviet era aircraft. I would guess though that this plane is no match for India's latest purchase of 5 Rafale which could eventually become 15 and maybe eventually 45. It's unknown whether India's very few Rafale might be a valid force, some might be deployed to its aircraft carriers, any deployed to the Pakistan-Indian border would be vastly outnumbered and Indian pilot training doesn't have the high reputation of France or other NATO countries.

BC the airforces in countries look for a Fighter jet. Not a fan. How is the caption even relevant. If it's affordable, it doesn't necessarily mean it is competent.

This aircraft has lot of design flaws and most of them are grounded due to reliability issues. That's why less than 10 junk fighters were exported. It may be okay against Mig 21.

It depends on what angle you looking at. it may use ws13g, which has a 9.5ton trust, compare to 7.5 of RD93, and way longer engine life. but it is way more expensive. It is like spec out a car, it could end up 3 times more expensive than the original one. RD93 may have a short engine life, but it is dirty cheap and easy to maintain. if they really spec jf17 out, it would be more expensive than J10 or F16.

pakistan is not the sole operator of jf 17. Furthermore using the jf 17 as its only multirole fighter was never the goal of PAC. It was for experience, and indigenous aeronatical expertise. A mixture of potent fighters was always the strategy of PAC and I suspect it will remain so. ie f16, jf17, and soon to be j10

@@bestestusername Well Serbia already purchased FK 3 anti-air missile system from Chine 3 batteries or systems also 12 or 14 Wing Long unmanned Arial drones with weapons which these carry payload. So Russia and EU are not enjoyed and Serbia has got right to choose because Serbia is military neutral country. And most citizens of Serbia don't want to join EU because of 90's and 1995 EU which 95% countries are NATO members together with USA bombed and did missile strikes on Serbian entity of REPUBLIKA SRPSKA in 1995 and then in 1999 also Serbia so Serbian citizens don't want to join EU

@@slobodanmarkovic4584 First, J10 is cheaper and more capable, because it is produced in much larger volumes, and will receive upgrades more frequently. Pakistan is kept ordering more J10s, why do you think they are doing that? Because it is cheaper than Jf17 block3. The WS10 engine is the most widely used for PLAAF and had been produced in thousands, all the flanker family, J10/20 all using it. It is like the buying a car, you buy the most widely used one, because the availability of its parts. Second, weapon sells are related to politics, Buying Rafale is buying a ticket into EU, buying J10 is saying goodbye to EU. Economy is part of national sercutity too, that is the part Serbia have to think about.
