Well, that's the beauty of periodization for strength training. Everyone should do it. There are micro-cycles in which you'll do 3-5 reps (pure strength). Other times, you will do the 8-12 rep range (hypertrophy). Then, the Local Muscle Endurance Training (15+ reps). Working different muscle fiber types, changing stimuli and - at the same time -, going easier on your joints, given the different loads you'll put on them, according to each cycle, instead of just going heavy on them all the time (your ligaments and tendons will thank you).

John and others have said the pause rep sets (or whatever, I guess they're the same as "dog crap" sets), are very advanced. But another guy who is jacked at my gym uses them for everything he can, even barbell rows. He encouraged me to start doing them myself so I started doing them for calf raises and oh boy does it shorten an exercise with the same amount of results. One good set to failure, rest 30 secs, 6 more burning reps to failure, rest 30 secs and about 5 last fire reps. DONE. Gonna try this on everything I do. Edit: OK I'm not stupid, obviously not squats and bench press. 🤣

Don't quite understand this method...anyways you can explain it in a different way
@HAL-dm1eh
@HAL-dm1eh 2 жыл бұрын
@@mez9687 After learning more about it, it's called the rest pause method, DoggCrapp or "DC Training". Googling it turns up several misinterpretations but if you read enough you'll get a good idea of the core basics. T Nation did a (almost) straight from the horse's mouth article on it. Basically you take a weight you can do for 10-12 reps to failure (it's important to take it to failure), rest 10-15 deep breaths (about 30 secs), pick up the weight and do another mini set (which might turn out to be about 5 reps), rest another 30 secs and crank out another mini set to failure (all of these with good form). That's it you're done. It's a killer.

Yeah but how many of the other sets and reps is necessary? I’ve done every split going from PPL and Arnold Split high volume to 5x5,HIT low volume and I’ve getting better results with the low volume stuff. Once you’ve warmed up and you’ve done your set to failure why do you need to do another 3 sets to warm up before hitting that set to failure when your muscles are already warm? Dorian Yates saying was when you’ve hammered a nail into your finger why take it out and hammer it in the same place when the damage is done? Plus what I’ve learned over the years is overtraining for the natural lifter is one of the biggest reasons you’re not making gains. You don’t start losing muscle till about 3-4 weeks down the line. If you train your body parts once a week like a bro split that gives you 6-7 days to recover which ensures that it will be fully fit to lift again. And it’s always stronger if you record your workouts and are consistent, you will get stronger if you train with intensity. I’m not a Mike Mentzer fan I am only going off what’s worked for me.

Mike Mentzer invented the concept of over training so it's either disingenuous to say that discussion didn't happen in the 80s or 90s or Mike Mentzer was just completely irrelevant.

People like to bash CrossFit but I actually think part of why people get ripped doing it is all the strength exercises in the conditioning. Nearly every workout, you are pushing yourself to muscle failure. When you do so many say box step-ups that your legs turn to jello, ie get REALLY uncomfortable, that drives body adaptations.
