Nature loss is one of the greatest challenges facing the planet. Worldwide, over one million species are threatened with extinction. But there is hope! The UN Convention on Biological Diversity (#CBDCOP15) is taking place this December - a once in a decade opportunity for world leaders to set nature positive goals to halt and reverse biodiversity loss by 2030. We’ve joined up with choreographer Sadeck Waff and 80 students from Bird College to perform a “human murmuration”. The beauty birds create when moving as one serving as an inspirational metaphor for world leaders working together to produce a global plan to save nature.

In census after census, and count after count we see a generally similar story - like a bird shot mid-flight, the numbers plummet. I have signed your petition and shared this more widely and within our sustainability group.

Why on earth didn't they shoot this as one long shot, so we could experience the rhtyhm and space? the continual cutting to close shots removed surely the whole point of the activity??

Is there a version of this with a static camera so you can actual see what is going on? Can't see a thing here with all the close shots etc. Waste of time - such a shame

As well intentioned this may be in raising awareness of the immediacy of protecting wildlife from going into extinction and fragile habitats being destroyed it is myopic in its approach. For something that’s so important and crucial for the planet to maintain its biodiversity really does nothing to protect declining bird species. It’s bizarre how all of the people featured on this video are London centric. If you’re going to encourage everyone to get involved then make a genuine effort to speak to people from Scotland, Wales, Ireland and the north of England. Especially areas that are affected most by declining bird populations. Make it more accessible for the working classes and less privileged to take part in saving Britain’s bird species as well by providing education in schools and mobilising local communities. Talking to privileged, upper middle class dance students will do nothing to help Britain’s bird populations increase. The dance choreography as talented as they are at what they do they didn’t consciously choose out of their own free will to dance to “protect bird species.” It’s also heavy pretentious and self indulgent saying a private dance college based in London of all places is somehow altruistically doing its part protecting bird species. It is not. They’re just dancing in synchronicity they’re not physically outside protecting habitats, saving and documenting species from danger and helping give birds resources to eat for food. The sad thing is that the birdies couldn’t care less if those people are dancing. Very pompous and overtly sentimental to assume they are raising awareness. A nice gesture but it’s very naive. One of the main dancers who was on a recent channel 4 report is even seen wearing a pair of leather Dr Marten boots. The absolute hypocrisy, if they’re so compassionate about protecting birds and animals then you shouldn’t be wearing boots that contribute toward the mass, industrial slaughter of innocent animals.

Loved the music but the movements not quite so much. Good marks for the idea but I personally would have liked to see more fluid and graceful movements rather than the choppy, squaring up of arms; it just isn't anywhere near the incredible beauty of starlings and other birds in flight together. Sorry. :(

Look forward to seeing your version and great if this inspires you. Personally I liked what I saw and appreciated how novel it was and the effort and work it represented

Great dance, lousy video. Hold the camera still! The movement is coming from the dancers.

I am consistently dumbfounded by the failings in the filming of dance and presented with cuttings. I'm certain the whole thing would have been a marvel to watch. But squeezed and juiced through a camera... I was just irritated.
