ImmersionRC Ghost is a new long range RC control link. It's got ultra fast updates, low latency, and kilometers of range. So why did ImmersionRC choose to use 2.4 GHz instead of 900 MHz or 400 MHz? And just what can we expect from this system anyway?
ImmersionRC's product page for Ghost is:

To answer the title question, high frequency sends more information faster. But, it has a much shorter communication range than a lower frequency. Lower frequencies can travel farther but carries less info over the same period of time. That's why AM stations can be picked up much farther away than FM stations but they also sound shitty.

I'm really excited to see some flight tests for this receiver system, particularly in an environment with lots of obstacles (e.g. bandos and damp forests), because like others I'm questioning whether its ability to pull a signal from below the noise floor compensates for the lack of penetration of 2.4Ghz when compared to a 900Mhz system. Regardless, I'm impressed by ImmersionRC's continued innovation in the hobby. As with RapidFire's diversity and sync reconstruction technology, they essentially set the new standards and we're all better off thanks to this, even if we don't buy their products because it's only a matter of time before some other manufacturer creates an imitation :)

Ian Laing If it’s working for you that’s great, I just didn’t have a great experience with it. I was happy with the R9M (non ACCESS) when I first got it, range was fine and I bought 4 more mini receivers so I could start changing my quads over from 2.4ghz but about a month later I started getting weird little random twitches, so infrequently at first that I didn’t even suspect the R9M and was chasing my tail checking ESCs etc. but it seemed to get worse over time and was happening with all of the R9 receivers and it didn’t matter which quad I tried them on, which firmware etc I would get these random twitches every now and then, kind of like you just clipped some scraggle but for no reason. I tried the module on dynamic power and the quad would become almost uncontrollable for a couple seconds each time the power level changed so something weird was going on and on fixed power the twitching was happening at least a couple times every flight. I switched several of my quads to crossfire but still had the R9 on one of my quads until recently and all of a sudden I couldn’t go more than about 20 meters without RSSI getting critical. Now the module will power up but shutdown within about 10 seconds even if I use external power, Ive opened it up and there’s no obvious damaged components, I think maybe something started failing early on and caused the problems I was having although I have heard other people mention the twitching thing using the R9M so maybe that’s a seperate issue. Anyway sorry about the long reply, I wanted to like the R9M because I didn’t want to do the inverter mod on my QX7. It’s possible I damaged my module by powering it up without an antenna or something, maybe the newer ACCESS R9M is better?
