Kenny Loggins has an amazing voice that most people don't talk about. He's got a lot of hits.

He wrote this song to urge his father, who was dying from cancer, to implore him not to give up the fight.

This was co-written with Michael McDonsld who you hear on the chorus. Kenny is known for his incredibly soulful voice! They also wrote What A Fool Believes together! There’s a gorgeous video of them singing it together acoustically at The Redwoods.

It was cancer and his father was ready to give up and not take chemotherapy; he had to make a decision and Kenny Loggins had to tell him This Is It!… That was the inspiration behind the song. I remember hearing the song in Jr High School and them showing a film of him saying what inspired him to write the song.

The interesting thing about this song is that it’s popularity exploded because it was theme song for the 1980 NCAA basketball championship. So everytime I see Darrell Griffith aka “Dr. Dunkenstein” taking off on a fast break for his patented around the world dunk…

Crying my eyes out thinking about his dad having cancer and deciding on continuing treatment when he wrote this. My dad had cancer and Covid-19 for a while too recently but survived it and is good so far. I was a little girl when this song was out and of course, I thought it was the typical love song to a girlfriend or a general encouraging song to the general public. Whenever I hear the song now, I think about him and his dad, I can't help but cry. BTW you're beautiful and I love your honest reaction and can tell u really never head it.

Hi Angela 😁 I wonder if you would consider a reaction for an old dog's birthday this Friday 7/30? Maybe Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes live performance of "Up Where We Belong"? Melissa Etheridge, "Silent Legacy" (studio version is nicer than live, strangely), or perhaps the very powerful Freddy Mercury live "Love Of My Life"? Or, one of the greatest live performances I know of, Peter Gabriel Secret World tour, "In Your Eyes"? Thank you Angela, all of your reactions so far have been awesome to watch and share. You are well respected and appreciated around here! ☮️👼🌹

The reason it’s so Soulful is because at the time his Father was suppose to have a Procedure done and he was hesitant about having it done. Kenny kept telling him to “Do it!” there’s nothing to think about….”This is it, make no mistake where you’re are, the waiting is over, This is it!” The Love of a Son for his Father!…SanJoséBob

Of course, now that you've listened to Loggins, I think you'll very much enjoy Loggins & Messina songs. Jim Messina was the perfect partner for Kenny Loggins, when loggins was young and trying to find his place in music. Messina was already a professional producer, and a veteran of two fantastic bands; Buffalo Springfield and Poco, when he was asked to produce for Loggins, and ended up both producing and partnering with him for an excellent string of hit songs in the 70s. I'd recommend House at Pooh Corner, or Danny's Song, or if you're in the mood for some toe-tappin' fun, Your Mama Don't Dance.
