Korean Shabu Shabu

This week we try some Korean Shabu Shabu, which is thin slices of beef that you cook by swirling it around in the pot of boiling broth in front of you, and then finishing it off with some Kalguksu noodles. MMMMM!!
Also, check out our site for the menu fully translated, just in case you want to try this out when you come to Korea yourself.
Hope you like this week's Food Adventure Program for Awesome People! Next week Martina's ankle should be good enough for us to be able to walk around, so we should be back to our normal WANKing schedule :D

These old videos have such a special place in my heart. I discovered this channel back in 2013 when I was going through a really dark time, and these videos really helped me get through it. Every once in a blue moon I like to come back and re-watch ❤️

Ah, so that's shabu shabu. There's a sushi place near where I live that's called Shabu Shabu. And guess what? They don't serve shabu shabu.

If memory serves, shabu shabu gets it's name from the sound of the bubbling pot. Not a clue why anyone would put it on a sushi place.

MsWannabeGamer the food was called in japan which I don't know if they are still calling this "shabu shabu". It came from china and was called 'shabu' cuz the vaporizing sound was similar

i tried this when i went to korea and wooowwww the servings are huge. we were three in our group and we ordered the good for two set and we still weren't able to finish it. we were so full we couldn't do the rice part which was a bummer because it seemed so delicious!

Korean meal prices are amazing! $18 wouldn't even pay for half of that in Australia. I think a meal of that quality would cost at least $60 here. :(

Fun fact: Shabu Shabu is very similar to Chinese hot pot, where its origin has been traced back to almost 1000 years. (Mongolia is believed to have originated the whole idea even before the Chinese did and introduced it during the tang dynasty) The idea of having raw meat and vegetables as a dish to be boiled is common in many asian countries :)

I totally had this on my Study Abroad trip but I didn't remember what it was called! I LOVED it. There weren't as many courses as this one but there were plenty of side dishes.

In Australia, hotpot is about $20 each... this is unlimited/buffet style hotpot... other places will cost about $25 each! O_O Rip off!!!

등촌샤브샤브 deung chon shabu shabu is one of the big chain restaurants in terms of shabu shabu. There's at least one in famous touristy areas.. Where are you staying? I know one near Jong-gak station in Seoul.

I should say the official name is 등촌샤브칼국수 deungchon shabu kalguksu (kalguksu meaning thick korean noodles). Hmmm,, i'm planning to eat this for lunch tmrw

this restaurant is called 등촌 샤브 칼국수 (DeungChon Shabu Kalguksu) and it's a chain or franchise that has locations all over korea. click here to find your nearest one! dmaps.kr/m9sk I would also highly recommend it.

Dear Simon and Martina, I after I saw your video, I went try shabu shabu at a local Korean restaurant. It was really good and very different than most food that I've eaten before, having grown up in Ontario.
