In this video we try and fit the great value JEEP rear door camping table to the back rear door tailgate of our 2020 Land Rover Defender L633. Join as we work out the best way to fit this to the door.

Awesome work!! I think definitely just buy a bunch of them yourself and then sell a complete, absolutely sorted, no DIY required kit!

Simon, I like your modifications and will order the kit, including the table and modified brackets, from you as soon as you have it ready. I want to order for shipment to the U.S. to support your continuing efforts on behalf of us New Defender owners.

Thanks Simon, I fitted this on my Defender a few weeks ago and havent been pleased with the fit, particularly a way to keep it secured and stop it from rattling. Very clever. Will be adopting your method tomorrow.

Nice little mod. I think I've binge watched all your new Defender videos over the last few days. It's getting time to upgrade my old L320 which incidently has a few of your parts on, grills, badges, vents, door handles etc. I think the more I watch your videos the more I want a Defender. Love your work Simon and the sheer honesty that comes with it. 🙏👍

I love your Defender too 😁 I kind of have the luxury too, my car sits parked up about 6 months of the year as I work at Sea and the "Boss" has her car so it's kind the best of situations when owning a Landy 😁. Having said that the Rangey really hasn't caused me too many problems. Had her packed with camping gear alway from Aberdeen to Silverstone for the F1 which really sparked my interest in the Defender after that trip. Anyway I look forward to more of your Landy adventures and mods

Great mod, I fitted something similar on my Discovery 2 back door, I used magnets to hold the tray in place when not in use, and then it's ready for use in a nanosecond.
@L6632 жыл бұрын
Love magnets... someone suggested this to me at the Land Rover show this weekend also - the try is aluminium so i would need to add some bolts to the tray in order to be able to use magnets... aluminium is good as its lightweight

Take the door panel out and come up with a storage device that holds a camping cooker, cups and stuff to make your tea/coffee.......

Yes this would be good as there is some unused space in there..actually there is quite a lot of unused space on the Defender.

Exactly how I fitted mine 6 months ago! I also added a fitted strip of non slip matting in the tray. I also purchased longer matching Torqx bolts to the originals from Amazon so that it looks like the others on the tailgate

Hi Simon, this was great I’ll be ordering one today and yes I’d buy your kit to make it work better. I did have another idea for camping….with the air suspension there should be a camping mode that levels the car for you 💡 in off road mode it knows and shows all the angles so the car does know what level looks like. Tim
@L6632 жыл бұрын
Well you are not the only person with this idea... I heard a rumour that there is company working on this BUT this should be a feature on the phone app for example....I guess the car has angle sensors in both directions - it clearly has height sensors at each wheel but it needs also to have angle sensors.

Brilliant. Wonder if something could be done for the Freelander 2. Whole other challenge given the different door and the fact it raises. i ask this as I may be buying a FL2 soon.
@adamwormleighton33332 жыл бұрын
All I’d like as a kit is the grub screws and the black screw in handles. The rest is fine. I’ve mounted mine higher than you so no need to trim off the lower part of the brackets
@WizzardPrang2 жыл бұрын
Another excellent mod video. 👍🏻 I fitted one of these to my Defender a month or so back, very pleased with it. From what I've seen on 't net, the contents of the supplied table vary slightly so, in my case there was a bit of hacking involved. I like your idea of reversing the brackets although I'd be happier to buy some bespoke ones than bother cutting them down myself (hint). 😉 I found I could adjust the levelling of the table by tightening the retaining cables at an angle, effectively making them shorter. Also: if you find yourself parked on a slight upwards (or downwards) slope you can level the Defender by adjusting the rear suspension height. Last thing: have you thought about how to mount a CB antenna? It's something I've been scratching my head over so if you've any ideas that'd be good. 🤣
@mikefretwell61662 жыл бұрын
I have a magnetic mount antenna for our vhf radio and plan to install a steel plate on the roof rack for it. Temporarily I used industrial strength velcro on the rack and antenna to hold it in place. Not as elegant as some possible solutions but works for us and there are no permanent scars.

Inspiration in action!, Now don’t melt the door trim when frying the sausages! Do you need a clip in upright stainless steel door splash protector that travels in the tray when not in use? Good work men…happy camping!!😀😀😀😀☔️☔️☔️☔️☔️Richard.

Have you made a video about the rear light I see on the top near rear door? I went camping this weekend and the reversing lights are pretty horrible in complete dark. I don't want to add the small leds to the bottom of the tail lights but a nice flood light on the top is exactly what I wanted to do. Specially if i can change the orientation if needed.

No we have not made a video about this yet - it is bolted to the Molle plate
@TheDefenderSisu2 жыл бұрын
I would prefer that you make a new bracket for a cleaner look also on the screws how about a retainer clips on them so they don’t fall out and stay there on the table I don’t think they would get in the way. Still waiting on the spare tire bracket removal plates, please don’t make they so expensive as the company selling them in Italy. Hopefully less than a $100.00 dollars would be great,as I am waiting on them. Thank you for all your videos and help on the Land Rover Defender stuff. I just mounted so Jerry can holders to the roof rack yesterday,had to cut the T bolts down by 9mm’s.

Great design, but not quite as much "make it up as we go along" as it seems virtually identical to my setup done in April and shared with your good self, Simon.
@L6632 жыл бұрын
Hi Bill - you are right that i was certainly late to the party on this modification - Non Stick Nick and Tim Oliver and yourself were all way ahead of me.. although not sure anyone did it the same way with the cut down slimmer brackets and thum screw fixings but I may be wrong.
@paulkedwards2 жыл бұрын
Looks like once the tray is secured closed, some brackets could be used to mount tools etc to it. Enjoy the Gaydon Show 😃
@paulhill16662 жыл бұрын
Try mounting the support brackets the opposite sides to how you’ve mounted them as they appear to be the wrong way round then the tray retaining clips may then work … just my initial observation
@L6632 жыл бұрын
Paul you are 100% correct but the problem is that then the holes are too close to match the holes on the door - then you need to add extra brackets as per this video kzfaq.info/get/bejne/adB0atmL1MnKXWg.html Also those retainers are bit goose as they are super tiny and prone to rattle so my screwed in fixings work for me.

Simon make one from scratch, if you build it we will buy. include a moulded tray to hold your cooking utensils and please make it easier to install than the body winch :(
@L6632 жыл бұрын
I had just got over the trauma of the winch..... We will take a look at this.. used it this weekend and it was useful. I was thinking of a round hole that you could put an IKEA plastic cup into to form a utensils holder.
