Loved it mate! Drone footage of Buttermere was super cool. Shame the light was so flat but you still got some good images - I particularly liked the shot of Ashness Jetty. Really enjoyable video packed full of content. Already looking forward to part 2. We all need an emergency ham sandwich in our lives!

Nice to see you Julian up in the lakes where I'm from. Like your previous comments I loved the drone footage and of course the images with me living only 30 mins from Say Keswick I can pick my days when I go out for a shoot but hey just like you explained you didn't always get the right light you don't always get it your own way. I know you've been up Catbells before but could I give you 2 more locations that I have shot recent over looking Derwentwater one is Walla Crag & the other is Castlehead . Castlehead is a very short walk out of Keswick but the views you get are stunning it's opposite side of the lake to Catbells. Oh & before I forget loved the upload.

Hi Matthew, I don't focus stack but given that the D850 has that ccpability built into the camera, it's something I think I will start doing. Generally I use a small apperture and focus 1/3 of the way into the frame. :-)

Loving the location. Did you say Befree carbon tripod? I decided to get rid of mine because it was too light for the windy fells. It’s a fine balance getting the weight and sturdiness right. Loved your long exposure from the right side of Ulswater, not done that yet.
@jbairdexp
@jbairdexp 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks James. Yes, Befree Carbon. It makes and appearance in part 2 (due Wednesday). Totally agree though it's a fine balance between weight and sturdiness. I've used it some brisk conditions though (see my Glencoe video) so it's generally good enough most of the time when kit weight is a consideration. :-)

Julian Baird - Landscape Photography Its so practical and light but I was conscious my gear would be too heavy for it’s recommended payload. Looking forward to the colab with Chris on Wednesday, I hope to meet him 1 day
@jbairdexp
@jbairdexp 6 жыл бұрын
My heaviest workload is just shy of 4kg and it seems to handle it just fine. The biggest challenge for me though when using the Befree is the use of a ball head. I normally use a 3 way geared head so I find ball heads in general offer less control. It can be tricky to nail the composition when you are all the way out at 200mm. Yes, I had a good laugh with Chris which hopefully comes through on the video! :-)
@JamesRBurnsVLOG
@JamesRBurnsVLOG 6 жыл бұрын
Julian Baird - Landscape Photography Fair point. I use a ball head on my Manfrotto 055 and yes I find it tricky but has the option to tweak the sensitivity. Shooting at 200mm is let’s say testing to get it all lined up still.
@jbairdexp
@jbairdexp 6 жыл бұрын
The geared head does offer precision control, but it's a heavy old beast! But when your legs and head combo is pushing past 3.5kg, I'm willing to give up a little precision if I have a ascent to do. I'm looking at Gitzo set of legs at the moment. That would save me 1.2Kg, but I'm not sure if I can justify the cost.
