No matter how you’re feeling, when you listen to Laura Nyro, she grabs your soul and leads you on her own journey-you’re never the same after that 🌷🌷🌷. Love is a word not strong enough in the English language to express how I feel for her music. 💝

I'm so happy to see people talking about Laura Nyro in 2020. I only discovered her 2019, which is a shame. It's incredibly sad to know that she was still alive when I was, and I didn't even know she existed. Only 2 decades after she left us were my eyes and ears finally opened to her genius. It's painful, but fortunate...because it's entirely possible that I might have NEVER been blessed by her music. And, that's an even sadder thought.

What a beautiful comment! I’ve bought her albums ever since they first came out (Joni too) and I saw Laura live twice... she was like something from heaven and so so exciting. I think everyone in the audience couldn’t believe we were actually in the same space as she was.

Eli and the 13th Confession was the first LP by a female that I bought. It is still in my top 3 LPs all time (not counting The Beatles). That LP still blows me away. A shout out to Christmas and the Beads of Sweat that followed. Also in my top LPs all time. Loved her. Saw her once and cried when she began to sing. Bought all her LPs. Glad she is remembered by others.

I remember DJ Alison Steele, played “You Don’t Love Me When I Cry” on her night on show, and it was one of those moments when you stop. You’re glued. Your ears are focused. I knew of her, and had read that she was admired, and friends with people from Miles Davis, to Stephen Sondheim. I went out and bought Tendaberry, and also bought Eli. She’s one of a kind.

Laura and Joni are my two beloved goddesses. It's always hard for me express why I have such love and awe for Laura and her music. You, my good man, have put into words exactly the way I feel about her. You understand the essence, depth and soulfulness of her work that touches me so deeply. Thank you for that. I saw Laura at Carnegie Hall soon after "Eli" came out and it was a spiritual experience. As for Joni, the other absolutely unique voice from the 60s, even as a man, she spoke to me. I have followed her on her journey from the beginning. She exposed her heart and hurt for all to see, and every female singer/songwriter that came after was influenced by her. I see her struggle in her old age, but she is most definitely truly alive! So glad to see her get the appreciation she deserves (Kennedy honors, Music Cares) Thanks again, Narada. Much gratitude

Thank you so much, Narada. I never met either of these amazing women, but I had almost exactly the same experience, I'd forgotten those Laura Nyro albums that i used to listen to; New York Tendaberry (sp?) Christmas and the Beads of sweat, and of course Gonna take a Miracle. The latter I consider maybe my all time favorite album. It's funny, because i was a straight catholic school kid from an all-white school just going away to college when i first heard her '71 probably; but I was completely obsessed with her dark gorgeous femininity and depth. It's like she hit a tuning fork in my soul that i didn't even know was there. I remember trying to figure out the chords to "Emily" on my guitar! Then, like you, i became nuts over Joni Mitchell, (for a LONG time) and could play most of her tunes on my guitar . Ha Ha!! But she was never the same as Laura Nyro. Laura was always so deep in the feeling/shadow realm and unconscious... I actually used to have dreams about her..! She was a profound poet/musician. ..and by the way, i always preferred her voice to anyone who covered her tunes.

Thank U Narada once again for your insightful talks on one of my favorite artists Laura Nyro, who I just discovered a few years ago. I thought her songs were revolutionary, soulful, jazzy, and sometimes playful but she always had these unpredictable arrangements that caught my ear. Her voice was pure emotion, she had it all. I still listen to American Dreamer, My Innocence/Sophia, Stone Soul Picnic, Save the Country, etc everyday.

Thank you Narada for this video, you talk about Laura Nyro with full of passion and admiration and also for Joni Mitchell and I feel the same. I’m a fan of Joni from her beginning career and she did some important albums in the history in modern music without a doubt (also for me) but I have to say Laura Nyro is recently discovery of mine. Yes, I was so astonished not to have known her before and this was because of Joni! Absurd but someone puted a comment on a video of song of her (Joni) and this person talked about three great women/composers: Joni along with Carole King and Laura Nyro. I also know Carole from her beginning but I said to myself..Laura Nyro? The first songs of her I've found were; “it’s gonna take a miracle” and “he’s runner” ..and then…”Gibsom Street”! said: WOW!!! What feelings..what a woman…great composer! Totally amazing!!

I agree that Court and Spark is uniquely classic. Entire album is one of my favorites. The First Songs is equally unique. Again, the entire album. Both influenced me in my youth to appreciate such artistry. Today there are few true artists - just performers who often rely on auto tune for their perfect pitch. There's plenty waiting in the wings for The Voice and such to put their names in lights. Mass produced - but not artists in my opinion. Not Laura Nyro or Joni Mitchell. Laura touched the depths of the heart with a sophisticated understanding of jazz that was simplistic in delivery. And a voice that wasn't perfect all the time - but human. Joni painted songs with her lyrics and music. Both used certain chords that weren't the common pop variety.. Chords woven in their music that had to be there to best express the emotion they intended to share with the listener. No easy arrangement or auto tune would do it. Not for these two true artists.

What a wonderful story thank you for sharing. I have every Laura Nyro album there is. Like you Narada I can sing or say all the lyrics outloud and the beauty and her songs are like not only "a story interwoven into each song" their like a play or movie, these characters and what they are going through with each song. It is magical. Often I felt her songs "not of this earth" her songs were so passionate, soft, hurt, anger, (woman's blues man that song is fantastic you can feel her hurt and anger) and Laura did it all, she produced, wrote the songs, played piano. Did you ever hear the story about how musical notes were "colors" to her, and as the people around her recording her got to understand when she would say "no I want yellow not blue note" etc.. Laura was a special angel spirit and having to leave us way too soon, but what is so cool is we have ALL of her music, songs and all the passion, pain, hurt, love, soul, tenderness she put into them. Laura lived her life the way she "lived her music" if that makes any sense. I never tire of her songs, never! "You'll never make a movie maker "Tom", you'll always be a city faker" Oh tom never make a movie maker always be a city faker tom"..that is the song I have going on in my head right now.😎👍💙

He'd be honored if you'd just give his work a listen. He is bringing back that quality of rare soul, from the best of the best, yet as unique as Laura and Joni, whom he loves. His music is rock, blues, ballads, and blues. Never fitting into a mold, and always fresh and true to his spirit and emotions, I think you'll feel the kinship.
