A Wisconsin man stands trial for allegedly murdering and dismembering his parents without remorse, and providing false information on their disappearances. Chandler Michael Halderson, 23, faces charges including first-degree intentional homicide. Remains from his father Bart Halderson, 50, and mother Krista Halderson, 53, were found days apart, authorities said.
Defendant Halderson reported his parents missing July 7th, claiming they left their home in the Village of Windsor days before on the 1st. He told WISC-TV at the time that they were going to the village of White Lake, Wisconsin.
“My last message I got from them, they were going to White Lake for the Fourth of July,” he told “There are some festivities that go around there. Better drink prices at the bars. Stuff like that.”
He said that to his knowledge, they were then going to their cabin in Langlade County.
“Along the way, they could’ve stopped many places,” he said. “I wouldn’t know all of them.”
He was allegedly just feeding everyone lies.
Bart’s torso was found in rural Dane County, while remains from Krista were found in Sauk County and property run by the Department of Natural Resources, according to court documents obtained by The Wisconsin State Journal.
Their son had been searching Google for terms like “Body found Wisconsin,” “Woman’s body found in Wisconsin,” “Wisconsin dismembered body found,” and “Dead body found in Wisconsin,” authorities said. Investigators suggested Chandler Halderson used to a visit to property belonging to the partner of his girlfriend’s mother as cover to hide his father’s torso nearby. He had shot Bart Halderson at least once before dismembering him, officials said.
According to investigators, Halderson said after his arrest that “you don’t know the whole story,” and that he “didn’t feel bad about what I did.”

Yeah, I don't understand how he imagined he would break this cycle. To constantly come up with another bureaucratic error, another miscommunication, another accident or injury in the made up advisor's life or in his (Chandler's) own life, another change in scheduling, anything to avoid the meeting happening. I mean, seriously? How long did he expect this very unlikely comedy of errors to go on for? How could he expect his parents not to go to these places one day and find out everything was a lie? And most of all, how can you live with such monumental lies weighing on you, day in, day out, while having to concoct new false obstacles and - at the same time - displaying a sufficient amount of impatience to appease his dad?

That's how it is with narcissists. They are so GOOD at creating fake images and manipulative lies that even those closest to them are completely clueless to what they're actually doing. I've dealt with one before. Trust me, they're GOOD at what they do. Part of what paves the way for them to get away with it is because MOST people wouldn't dream of such elaborate and well orchestrated lies, as well as the fact his parents loved him, so they can't imagine that someone they know, loved, raised, etc could possibly be so devious. Also, people tend to color facts with their own experiences, so if the school and employer seems to be giving him the runaround and unresponsive, we tend to relate it to some of our own past experiences. For example, I've actually had a couple of employers jerk me around about my paycheck. I've had difficulty getting someone to respond to emails re school records, etc. I guess what saying is most people have a similar experience at some point in their lives, so when their son says hey they're not responding, most of us would say to ourselves, ugh, I understand, that's happened to me before. Of course, his parents had their own busy lives and jobs to deal with, so they kinda take the excuses and lies as sufficient enough for now, so they stay focused on what their job is. Hard to explain, but that's how and why narcissistic people get away with crap for so long. Most of us would never dream of doing half the crap they do, so it never crosses our minds to actually dig deeper. We tend to trust those closest to us, so that's how they get away with it. And if they had confronted him, I'm almost sure his response was something like, "really, dad? You're accusing me of lying just because they didn't respond to my emails (or whatever the case is)? It puts the parents on the defensive, and makes them feel bad that they don't trust their own son.

I don’t get why he didn’t just run away, leave home, when he knew his lies were catching up with him. I guess maybe he didn’t have money and his narcissistic need to “succeed” even if he wasn’t actually succeeding at anything. The saddest thing is that parents are pretty forgiving when it comes to their children and even though it might have taken some time to earn any of their trust back, they probably still would have helped him get back on track.

What I find fascinating is the apparent lack of any medium or long term plan to resolve this corner he painted himself into. I mean, if I was lying about education and employment, I would at least be trying to do something, or "fake it til I made it", so that when I actually finished college and actually got a job, I could (maybe) seamlessly start talking to real advisors and requesting real certifications for real jobs. And even if the parents ended up discovering his web of deceit, at least he could then say he was actually finishing some kind of degree or getting some kind of training, it's never too late. I just don't get where he thought this was going to take him, did he expect his parents to keep believing these were all bureaucratic mistakes for another 3, 4 or 5 years? I just don't understand the logic of it.

Why does Chazman remind me of a 1930's fascist? Im looking at the email at 34:17. It's actually very amateurishly done. You'd think he would have added a 'signed card' -as that is what someone would do with their title and company info on this business account. He also misspells _Resources._ Remote indeed. His poor parents and family. How horrific and degrading. He must have had a lot of anger inside of him. Meanwhile, he had, pretty much, every opportunity the world could offer someone.

I left home and started college when I was 17 years old. My older brother drove me to the college and dropped me off and neither of my parents EVER stepped foot on my campus until the day I graduated. Nor did they make a single telephone call or write a single letter to any college official regarding anything that might be occurring at my school. Any issues with my grades or my housing or my student aid or with getting a job or with the payment of my tuition or with ANYTHING, I handled myself. I cannot imagine a man of 23 years of age whose FATHER has to contact his school to try to get all this straightened out. Even if everything about his going to school had not been a lie, WHY would he have had to depend on his dad to get all these issues resolved? Was he dimwitted or something? Don't answer that. I think I already know the answer. Of course, he was dimwitted!
@mykalimba

The father didn't have to contact the school regarding Chandler's grades because Chandler was inept and couldn't do it himself, the father RESORTED to doing it because he'd been given the runaround from Chandler for a long time. Chandler was not able to do it because there were no grades to retrieve, as he was no longer attending school. So he was lying to his parents. You understand that, right?

That's unbelievable. How much effort he put into this. But not even very smart, he's just good at finding excuses - for himself as well as imaginary people. And Gmail adresses and protonmail? Come on, I wouldn't fall for this. I feel so bad for his parents. What a terrible story. I have to admit, his story reminds me a bit of my last year at school. That's when I skipped school (for 3 weeks) for the first time - I just had problems during this time. I left the house every morning and my father thought I would go to school. But I was hanging out with idiots with lots of beer and weed to make my situation even worse. One of these people, he was 10 years older than me, called my school to tell them "he's sick and can't come to school". Of course it worked. But then I ran away, I left my hometown and became a missing person case. (I'm not proud of this time in my life, but all I could think about was the love of my life who moved far away and I wanted to find her again although I didn't know the new adress after we broke up so I tried to travel to this state and somehow find her. I didn't want to go on without our relationship.) That's when my parents found out that I didn't go to school for weeks, because they called my friends and teachers if they know anything about me. Of course I didn't want them to know, but I would never think about killing my parents, just because they discovered the truth! WTF?! These poor people. He seemed to have such good parents. Disgusting.
