As a native English speaker who is new to learning Spanish, I've always subscribed to the notion of "if I don't feel a little silly speaking in Spanish (or any other language not my own), then I'm not speaking it correctly." To refer to your topic of accents, I dated a woman from Bogotá, Colombia and she insisted I pronounce "yo" as "jo" (like the name Joe in english). So that's the accent I go with. Students in my Spanish class criticized me, but I told them to focus on their own pronunciations. Yo is "jo," playa is "plaja," llama is "jama," and yogurt is "jogurt" :p

Ok this is my way in!! Because I’ve learned French and I am so used to thinking in foreign language myself as “Je” só to now think “Jo” is way better for me to work with. As of now I am formulating my linguistic pattern from French English to Spanish English so I think in a kind of “Franglaispanol”

There is nothing wrong with speaking with an accent. But some people prefer to speak like natives. As long as your grammar is correct, it's all good.

I think people honestly keep the accent because they think it doesn't matter. My grandmother speaks perfect English but has the thickest accent imaginable. She can write long academic papers in English and speak confidently I just don't think a lot of people are comfortable losing the accent

@Sanuk Jang Lery Yeah I know a lot of Spanish speakers who have American English accents. I also knew a few Chinese guys who spoke Chinese inspired spanish, very funny lol. Its really not hard to lose the accent though or speak in a certain way you want. French is about as phonetically away from Spanish as possible and the little bit of French I know I pronounce it prefectamente. I could read off an French book and I wouldnt sound like my native spanish accent would come through. Also english I speak american perfectly but I knew this language from the beginning

Great techniques. I know you said in another video that you don’t want to be an actor, but, on the off chance you change your mind, you really would be a natural at that, and really good at comedy. Your mannerisms remind me so much of Eddie Murphy in his early days. I think you’d be a hit. And your fluency in Spanish and ability to imitate different accents would only make it more likely that you’d get noticed. However, I honor anyone’s desire to teach, and have utmost respect for anyone who wants to help people in that way. You’re going to do well.

Since portugues and Spanish are alike she speaks it along with 7 other languages (german, french, russian, dutch, english, Lingala, D'congo, I might ve forgetting some) But I can understand portugues and Spanish and can speak a little. Lots of mexicans tell me I have the native accent when I speak it and that I don't sound like a gringo. I guess I have my mom's genes. 🤔

Bilingue Blogs lol no not the voice, like the bass in their voice, it’s hard to explain but it sounds like some Spanish speakers are using their diaphragm when they’re speaking where as it sounds like you’re just using your throat in English. Does that make sense?
@rociopaoloni5080
@rociopaoloni5080 3 жыл бұрын
@@Cookingcousin I'm not sure but it may have to do with pronunciation. When I talk in English and trying to follow a correct pronunciation I find my mouth get's really wet by saliva whereas in Spanish that just happens if I'm nervous and talking non-stop, never in a normal scenario. It seems to me like English is very demanding on the tongue and bucal area so I can't swallow my saliva as often. In Spanish I always have moments to stop doing things with my bucal area because our vocals are usually very very open compared to English, air passes through without that much modulation. Based on this experience I wouldn't say that we demand more of the diaphragm but that we do less with our mouths. I have to admit I tend to sound higher talking in English than in Spanish.
