Notice as he got older he moved the ball further back. He went from fading the ball to drawing it. There’s a great clip of Lee talking to Tiger and Charlie on the range at last year’s PNC about wedge shots and you can here Tiger say to Charlie, “this is why you hit draws on your wedges now”. Lee still will hold off the wedges when he wants some brakes, but any club longer he plays a draw.

@@ScratchArkkitehti appreciate the input, but talking about it and doing it are two different things. I’ve worked in televising the PGA Tour for over 40 years, and I can tell you that through the early part of his career, Lee played primarily a spinning cut shot with his wedges into greens. Checkout his highlights from his win at Oak Hill in ‘68, and you’ll see cut wedge after cut wedge.

It's just a hold release. Less power and a little more accurate. That's how to hit a pitch and run just a much bigger version. Worked out pretty well for him. Few on tour release this way regularly. You will never see this release in long drive competitions or in the longest hitters on tour. Trevino was known for his accuracy and especially wedge play. His release is a hint as to why. Not the miracle secret of the golf swing.

RE: Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, Cameron Champ, Bryson DeChambeau etc. All are bigger athletes than Lee, only reason they hit it farther. However Lee could crank it up to around 310 in the 80s when they started using metal woods. Consider yourself DEBUNKED.
