I remember watching the whole show, season after season, and really, at some point, I started asking why Penny wasn't with Sheldon? As the years passed, Penny acted like she was more in love with Sheldon than her husband. Just as Amy said in this episode, and some other two, Penny always takes Sheldon's side, supports him, defends him, and does everything for him. Penny very clearly had a soft spot for Sheldon, and she couldn't hide it or fight it.

It's weird but for years I absolutely loved everything about this show but when I rewatch it sometimes really gets under my skin. I'm finding it harder and harder to watch. I love how Penny is always on Sheldon's side! Like countless times before and after. When Penny and Sheldon team up, they are the ultimate power couple. And they were hilarious and a great team together since day 1 on this show. When Penny let Sheldon wait in her apartment when Leonard was with Stephanie or Leslie (don't remember who exactly), and they were sitting in Penny's apartment joking together that they are married, and later divorced; when Penny started to get closer&closer to Sheldon and seek his help with gaming, or when Sheldon started to help Penny with Penny's blossoms production; when Penny dislocated her shoulder and Sheldon took her to the hospital; when they sing Soft Kitty together, and later, countless times to each other; when they became the best team during the scavenger hunt; when Sheldon took care of Penny during Leonard's absence because Leonard went on the expedition with Hawking's team; when they did the 'falling in love' test together; when Sheldon didn't want to lose Penny after she and Leonard broke up the first time, and Sheldon was lying to the guys when he was secretly meeting with Penny because Howard told him it should be 'bros before hoes' but Sheldon loved Penny and wanted her in his life; when Penny comforted Sheldon in the bathroom during his birthday, and she was the only one that Sheldon let in this way; when they talked about change after Sheldon won the Nobel Prize, when they hugged so many times, even tho Sheldon said from day 1 he doesn't hug people - and countless other moments. It's hilarious how angry some Penny& Leonard's fans are in these comments, and try to hate on Sheldon&Penny, while the reality is that Sheldon and Penny became the best non-couple- couple on TV, the best platonic love with even bigger potential to become romantic, Chuck Lorre just didn't take that route. And it's a shame since Jim Parsons& Kaley were all for it in season 3 - I remember the old interview with them when he and she said they would love Sheldon&Penny together, and because people loved Shenny already back then. Plus, Sheldon and Penny were miles better than toxic Leonard and Penny, who only became more awful as the show went on. It's a fact that even a blind person sees. Penny and Leonard became so bad, that they even later argued about having children, as the truth is Penny didn't want them, not even with Leonard, she only got pregnant by accident, which was a lame way for the writers to force Penny to have kids, and it was horrible writing.

This scene is hilarious, but on a serious note, Penny always takes Sheldon's side. Later in this episode, Penny and Sheldon take half of the sandwich and organize their own party. And Amy and Leonard started talking about how Penny always supports Sheldon. I see why this was annoying for them both, but this is why the writers' choice to force Leonard and Penny's relationship later in the show, was stupid. They just completely lost the spark, they never had particularly strong chemistry either (only in the first 3 seasons they were cute but never some great chemistry), and Penny definitely was better with Sheldon overall. And Kaley and Jim had way better chemistry. I know that Sheldon's approach to sex is the one-factor people always point out as the reason it would never work between Sheldon&Penny, but that is not true. First, it's a simple writers'/producers' choice, and they could have chosen differently, and written Sheldon changing in this matter, as he already changed and had sex with Amy. Besides, this actually often happens in real life, that a wild, more sexually active person, after years of partying, finally settles with a calmer, less wild, and sexually active partner, because when we get older we value stability and responsibility more, at least those of us who really mature. So it absolutely could have worked between Sheldon and Penny, it just needed good writing. And it definitely would make more sense than forcing Leonard and Penny on us, because since more or less seasons 6-7, they were truly unbearable together. And I was also always of the opinion that Sheldon and Amy weren't that great either. Amy had to force Sheldon to do things using her experiments or simply yelling at him, while Penny always made him change effortlessly, in an organic way.

What is interesting about this, is this shows the stages of people interaction with Sheldon over an extended period of time. Leonard, who has known and dealt with Sheldon the longest, is completely burnt out and over coddling him. Penny, who's known him the second longest, understands fighting with him is futile because he will find a way to get his way regardless, and is just enjoying the dumb little perks as a silver lining for getting it done. Amy, who has known Sheldon for the shortest, is reacting to Sheldon the same way Penny reacted to Sheldon in the early seasons, she goes along with him and points out in amazement that he doesn't realize just how much people make concessions for him.

BBT went off a cliff from season 8 onwards. Stilted, forced, overweight, and dull, with the characters all “finding themselves”. Just became a bit virtue signalling and worthy. Hence, boring and unwatchable.
