Increased human life expectancy is one of the greatest breakthroughs in modern history. We have more than doubled the global average in the last 100 years, but the length of our healthspan, the time we spend in good health, has not increased at the same rate. With the population of people over 60 expected to almost double from 12% to 22% between 2015 and 2050, we have an urgent need to find novel solutions for healthy aging.
On today’s episode of The Doctor’s Farmacy, I’m excited to talk to my good friend Dr. Peter Diamandis about how we can apply the latest science and technology in the field of longevity to optimize not only how long we live but how vibrant and healthy we remain as we age.
Peter is a serial entrepreneur, futurist, technologist, New York Times bestselling author, and the founder of more than 25 companies. Fortune magazine has named Peter “one of the World’s 50 Greatest Leaders,” and he is the Founder and executive chairman of the XPRIZE Foundation, which has launched more than $300 million in incentive competitions, driving more than $3.5 billion in R&D (most recently launching the $100 million Gigaton Carbon XPRIZE funded by Elon Musk to combat climate change). Peter’s venture fund, BOLD Capital Partners, is deploying $600M+ into exponential technologies and health-biotech. Peter has written four New York Times bestsellers, and his life’s mission is to empower entrepreneurs to create a hopeful, compelling, and abundant future for humanity.

I really hate it when people say we have doubled our life span. Makes it sound like everyone died on their 40th birthday. Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin lived to 83 & 84. I say people were healthier 200 years ago. EVERYONE ate organic vegetables, grass fed beef and pastured egg. NOBODY drank 44 oz big gulps. The "statistics " got watered down from childhood deaths and trauma deaths.

Agree. My father in law just passed at 99. All his friends and cousins, wife had already passed. He was at his house where he lived 73 years. He got covid and passed about 2 weeks later. Actually I think he was lonely more than anything else. He had 8 adult children who visited him regularly but they didn’t get along with each other and argued etc. I feel like if he had more to live for he wouldn’t have been depressed. His oldest is 80 and youngest 62.

Yeah I have always wondered about that dubious “fact”. Undoubtedly antibiotics and vaccines have prevented a lot of deaths but notwithstanding those unfortunates people as you say lived fairly long lives

Er, you do realise hes talking about the average, right? Of course you can take isolated cases, but the fact is that across the board we are healhier (or at least less prone to fatal disease) than we were 200 years ago, entirely due to science and technology. As a species we are now healthier for longer than at any other time in history - a trend that is certain to continue. If this angers you then you dont have enough to worry about.

I listened to your pod cast I agree about trying to live longer and healthier However there is one denominator you don't consider and that is that Life does not belong to us but given to us by God as I believe in .n your podcast I heard you say " God only knows". Focus on those words and meditate on them. Taking care of your body should be understood ...our body's are a gift ..❤

I got healthier during Covid. I said the best way to fight it is get healthier. So I concentrated on getting healthier, eating better. Lost weight, plus gained muscle from using a home gym. Men is Switzerland live 15 years longer than men in Russia. Why? Better lifestyle, habits.

More wealth. Russia had really bad years in poverty. More wealth and equality makes people suffer less stress and have more time and money to take care of themselves. Less stress means less stress eating (sugar), less self treatment with substances (drugs), less destruction of the body and the mind.

Caloric restriction sounds terrible for longevity. But not how we conduct mouse experiments. In the 1950s most people were normal weight, ate 3 times a day without in between meal snacks, involved in their work, were physically active. Their bodies used glucose and ketones for energy.

I think most people who end up here in this channel and follow Mark agrees that life and health is the most precious tool we have. We know that without life we are nothing, that without health we are curtailed. We don't need to oppose with the mind...making stupid games of denialism as things are clear:when your body fails, your brain can play any trick to you making you believe in any other world where you will survive but at at end you die. It's a really hard wake up call but it's necessary to progress in science and technology to fundamentally understand as the only species on earth to have this acute consciousness of death that we should fight it scientifically. Nothing to put suffering,or scare tactics, this is all about the most amazing adventure humans can take...the adventure of life to prolong ourselves in good health as long as possible and to enable this to all who want it.

Try living in San Diego (America's most expensive city) on a $1,705 Social Security check. I'm 75 years old and I have never had a blood test. Other than a colonoscopy the last time I was at a doctors office was in 1969.

Great info. But it seems like functional medicine is high end medicine is so expensive and not available to the masses due to the expense. So indigent and middle class people would not be able to afford this type of testing. Please include poor people in your studies. This type of medical screening should not be only available to the rich and privileged.

I think what’s most important is the health our souls, more so than just our bodies! Our souls are for ETERNITY! Yes, we’re suppose to take good care of our bodies too but you guys are talking about what order to eat our food! How silly and trite! Just eat as healthy as you can afford, walk, but spend time in prayer every single day! Love to listen to your KZfaq channel but sometimes you go waaayyy overboard! The fact is, when God calls you Home, you’re going to leave this earth whether you’ve eaten your veggies first or your carbs.

In February 2021, during the COVID-19 pandemic, MIT Technology Review reported that Diamandis held a "mostly maskless" event in Santa Monica in violation of the local stay-at-home order that became a superspreading event. The event charged up to $30,000 for tickets. In a followup article, MIT Technology Review revealed that after COVID-19 started spreading among attendees, Diamandis tried to sell them "fraudulent" treatments including inhaled amniotic fluid and ketamine lozenges, which a professor of law and medicine at Stanford University characterized as "quackery". The superspreading event was covered widely by publications including the New York Times and the Los Angeles Times.@@kennedymichael1975
