I am also a Kiwi (New Zealander), in general Kiwis stand for freedom, equity and fair treatment for all. NZ was the first country to give women the vote. NZ is well known for it's fair treatment of all and while NZ is part of the European Christian capitalist club it has demonstrated its fair mindedness when dealing with countries which are not in this club. Sadly it is common today to end a debate on Israel by screaming "Anti-semite." This is usually guarenteed to de-rail even the most well reasoned debate on Israeli policies. The Human Genome project has revealed that the Palestinians are closely related to the Jews and I wonder if yelling "stop being anti-semitic" would stop an Israeli bulldozer destroying a Palestinian home?

BDS Boycott Divest and Sanction saved South Africa. People who loved the native black South Africans and the country overall unambiguously celebrated the end of apartheid there. Why are people so stupid about not understanding BDS is pro-Israel also?

Another thing about Lorde that you will find interesting is that she is also progressive. She was critical of the previous John Key Govt and with the child poverty in NZ, Lorde also went out of her way to donate $20k NZD of her own money towards hungry schoolkids. They sure are making a big assumption that she cancelled her concert because of BDS. Maybe she thought it was too dangerous to perform there. I'd be worried about going there too because there is so much fighting between the Israeli military and the Palestinians.

The problem I have with this is that if you are going to boycott Israel, you might as well boycott the U.S. too - I mean, we've basically been occupying another country for the past 15 years not to mention all the other crap that we've done/are doing in bombing Yemen, Libya, sending troops all over the globe where they aren't welcome. So, I don't necessarily mind boycotting Israel but there IS a problem with picking Israel specifically and not also applying that same standard to other countries (U.S., Russia, China, U.K., etc.)
