Seeing Shane going back to his more classic reviews is so refreshing. Also, the movie itself is okay I guess. Could've been better but the concept was admittedly amazing and had a lot of potential if the script was better

The Creator’s grain helps the VFX look more realistic but also it is a very annoying grain structure. Without this grain or with a lighter grain, it would’ve looked beautiful. It’s already low resolution and the grain just makes it worse. The sound is what I love about this movie the most. I had originally seen it in ScreenX, the director’s recommended format for this movie.

Amazing review. I was suprised to hear about the disappointing bass response. I saw it in Dolby Cinema (w/ Atmos) and the bass response was aggressive as hell in there. I made sure to see this in a 2.39:1 location and I loved the use of the 2.76:1 AR. But I recently watched this on a friend's 80 inch TV and it still looked small. I definitely need a projector for this.

@@liutungwei5160 A tone/frequency can be very low but not be very loud and vice versa. SPL is sound pressure level.

It's hard to justify using an aspect ratio that wide. Almost anything you film with it looks vertically restricted. Or you have to settle for much wider shots in which your main subjects look very small in frame. A taller aspect ratio is far more useful and easier to work with.

The film is awesome! It actually gives a very plausible and logical view of the future. Visually, it was very impressive.

Well, the audio is mixed to be soft by default. I really need to turn up master volume by 5-6dB, then everything sounds immersive and bass hits very hard. I always keep my subwoofer at same level (not a bass head) throughout all movies so that I can judge bass performance of every one of them. For the video, it's grainy but I like it. I extracted the video from Blu-ray and cropped it to 2.5:1 so that the black bars are smaller.

in Italy we noticed problems with this title, central channel with dynamic range reduced to +4db compared to all the others

Shane the true mix is actually 5.2.1 right? If remaining channels are performing, it is possibly due to feeding of the same sound to the other speakers right?

Great review Shane, thanks. Personally, I thought this was a much better film - and a much better *looking* one - than either of Villeneuve's Dune movies (maybe not a popular opinion, but there it is). Not a big fan of the 2.78:1 aspect ratio though: There's a generation of movie goers who think that 2.35:1 is "letterboxed" because that's not just how they see it on their TVs, but how all too many theatres show it too. Obviously, it's *supposed* to be wider, not shorter. 2.78:1 on the other hand, IS letterboxed on virtually every screen it's ever seen on (I did see a video recently of a fella who has a Cinerama screen in his HT room, so for him it was great!).

I thought The Creator was visually impressive. I did like how they added the grain in post. It gave the movie a more edgier look. I wasnt all that impressed with the sound though. The explosions could have been punchier. The story didn't make much sense though. Androids with only human faces and suicide robots. I had good time with it, you could do worse. Gareth Edwards should direct a Cyberpunk.movie.

Cyberpunk yeah ! Netflix did Edge runners anima and that looked awsome and sound explosions punched hard . If they did a film it would need 3 to 4 season's to scratch just the surface....also knowing hollywood it probably add their convoluted mess, over simplify the story make it generic boring predictable like on Ghost in the Shell.😂 what a shame.

I've never heard of this movie. The last Sony camera I had was the A7S II I believe. I always had trouble with skin tones and lips were very purple. This was years and years ago so I'm sure the FX3 is much better. Anyway I went back to Canon even though they have their own issues. These days I'm using a Panasonic GH6 but with Canon lenses.

Watched this twice at the cinema on the same day of the opening weekend including in IMAX with Laser GT. Didn’t think it was anywhere near as bad as lots of online reviews would make you believe.

Well, i thought the movie was pretty good. PQ & AQ was also good to my liking. It had a lot of Star Wars style along with some Tenet added.. It's a rewatchable flick....

Not sure how you go from 8.7 to an 8.2 on physical because you can notice a slight difference at over 85".

The atmos sounds great, but i dont want to see this film just because worst color grading, overall this movie doesn't even go past 500 nits, bad dull visuals could have been brighter enough. Just because highlight something u wont make it every other thing darker, the framing/cinematography good but choice of colour grading is worst

I thought the movie looked and sounded great. People need to get over 'grain' - digitally introduced or not. If that's what the filmmakers wanted then just go with it. Unless your James Cameron... urgh!

I thought the image looked like a 1080p and was really muddy and grainy. Really enjoyed the story so it was a bit of a shame. I would have had the scores the other way around.

Cool visuals, nice spin on the typical AI plotlines. Not amazing, but something I would recommend. Big plot hole...why do they have holes in their heads instead of just blending in?

I saw this in the IMAX. Biggest black bars I have ever seen. The big explosions shook my seat a bit so that was fun. Otherwise pretty middle of the pack forgettable movie. It was a decent movie. Just nothing that makes it stand out from the rest.
