There is a misunderstanding about garp that most people have, and it's hard to understand because we compare it to real life, in one piece most jobs pertaining to traveling the seas or being a marine involve being away for an indeterminate amount of time due to how the one piece world is , and people think garp didn't care enough, but you can see that every single vacation or time off he has, he always comes to stay with luffy and ace until his vacations are off, he cared a lot, he is very rough with the kids but you can see how they are aswell, 3 little demons.

Fun fact: if you go back to the first flashback scene where Ace and Luffy exchange sake and declare themselves brothers, then you can see the shadow of Sabo's cup just barely in the frame.

This flashback always destroys me Luffy throughout the story has shown how much he cares about people but also how much he wants to get stronger to not lose anybody anymore And now we have this flashback Luffy might be the first person ever to tell Ace that he'd be happy just by him being alive 💔 This explores Luffy's biggest fear Loneliness He'd rather die than be alone and wants connections with people Just look at him jumping head on facing the crocodile He did not care because he knew his brothers were with him When he fell through that bridge Ace and Sabo were worried and jumped to catch him He still had that big bright smile on his face😭 He's surrounded by people who care about him and he cares about So he feels secure and joyful I love Luffy❤ Sabo and Ace too❤😭

I used to think there was nothing Garp could've done to make Luffy be a Marine instead but honestly if he took Luffy on a few missions and he saw how strong Garp is and saw him saving innocent people about to die from bad guys, he probably would've wanted to be a Marine too.

after watching Luffy grow up and how he has to constantly fighting for food on the table while everyone steals from each other plate it explain a lot on why he is eating the way he does with the crew :D

Just a head's up the "bo" in Sabo's name is pronunced like the bow in bowtie. Watching you see these episodes reminded me how much of a rollercoaster ride of emotions this section of One Piece was.

Garp probably didn't raise Luffy and Ace because he is a Navy Vice Admiral, and if the Navy caught wind of who's father's Luffy and Ace were, they would have those kids put to death. What Garp did was wise because it sheltered them.

What you didn't see back in marine ford in the small flashbacks of the boys toasting and becoming brothers... There is a small shadow of the third cup of sake. 😉

There's also a part to be said about the life that Garp leads. Although it's pretty shitty, living with the mountain bandits and away from Garps fame might've actually protected them from being targetted by big name pirates looking for revenge on Garp. Same reason with Dragon and Luffy; if that was well known Luffy would've been targetted. Same with Ace.

26:09 that's part of the reason One Piece is so loved. I love that Oda isn't afraid to show the darkness of reality alongside the feeling of wonder that comes with adventure in an imperfect world. Hits you right in the gut and heart sometimes and that's a part that I personally love about One Piece. Its such a pain to get people to start off watching it cause its so long, but for the most part I think most people would really enjoy it. If you're not in love with the show by Arlong Park its definitely not for you.

I love Dadan so much, she is awesome, and Garp... what was he expecting from this? And the Celestial Dragons again... This show really slaps you with reality time to time, the class disparities, the extreme poverty of those forgotten places. A lot of hot topics on One Piece, you wouldn't expect it from a show starting with a kid in a barrel.

Ace has a cool little novel turned manga detaling his adventures on the sea and with the Whitebeards. Of course its a bit out of the way to get into something like that on the channel, but if you ever feel like getting into in your own time, its well worth it imo.

BTW I want to point a few things out. 1. When the crew first talks to rayleigh, rayleigh has a flashback to shanks after he lost his arm, and shanks mentioned about how little boy (luffy) said, "The same thing our captain said". This scene at 27:10 where luffy yells out and they cut it short, luffy was yelling out his dream which was the same thing Roger said, and luffy dream is not to be the king of the pirates, but in fact being king of the pirates its a stepping stone towards achieving his dream.
