Drilling angled holes can be a challenge and a half, and it's compounded by drilling into round stock. Follow along as I solve this issue, without fancy tools (beyond a drill press), and build some nice wall mounted hangers in the process.

When using a wholesaw, after marking the outer circle, use a regular drill bit and drill a hole on the circle line (inside the waste) so the sawdust has a place to escape. This way you won't dull your wholesaw, drill faster and avoid burning the wood. 👍

Don't worry, I will. Some videos will be lighter on narration though, as they're much more fun to actually edit, and you can be more creative with matching to music etc.

The drill jig is great. I recently made a rack for all my small power tools to hang and drilling the angled holes was no fun. The hangers really cool as well I especially like the carved ends. This gives it personality! PS: Don't let them catch you ;-)

You should create videos more often! :D Maybe include some 3d printing, in future projects?
@SwitchAndLever
@SwitchAndLever 6 жыл бұрын
I'm trying to release a video every two weeks, it's not going to get any more frequent than that, it takes a long time to produce a video, amongst doing other things as well. 3D printing is not really my thing, but there will be done in my next video, in two weeks :)

Can I just say a heartfelt thank you! I get so many complaints about people not able to do anything because they don't have all the tools in the video, so it's very refreshing that someone actually gets the idea of something without getting stuck on excuses.

I was going to ask about the knife, especially with the Japanese writing on the blade. Too bad I can't make that, don't have a cat. Have a dog though.

Japanese writing? It's not even close, it says "Morakniv", which is the brand of the knife blade.

How durable is the jig?
@SwitchAndLever
@SwitchAndLever 6 жыл бұрын
I drilled maybe 30 holes total with it, and it barely showed any sign of wear. If you're worried about it lasting, make it from hardwood. Or just while you're making the first one make a few at the same time, as it should take marginally longer to make three at the same time, as opposed to one.
@LukeLibertyNoRulers
@LukeLibertyNoRulers 6 жыл бұрын
An easier way to drill those holes is by starting with the drill bit straight onto the surface. Start your hole then turn the work piece or drill, with the drill still running, to the angle you want and continue the hole. This is easier to do if you start with a pilot hole.
@SwitchAndLever
@SwitchAndLever 6 жыл бұрын
On a round surface it's quite difficult though, and you're less likely to get the same angle every time, and will likely get more tearout around the holes.

Very elegant solution. Ikea called -- they want 200,000 by December. They will be called Hangel : ) What would you do if you got an order for a huge amount of something you made?
@SwitchAndLever
@SwitchAndLever 6 жыл бұрын
According to the IKEA naming convention, as this would probably fall under the category hall furniture, it would probably be named Levanger or something like that, as they're named after Norwegian place names. IKEA produces all their own stuff, so at best they'd license the design, but more likely design something similar and own the design fully instead. If I got a huge order from somewhere else I'd find a place to produce it for me, I don't have the shop, man power, or time to create large volumes of anything :)

You know its really a shame you are using such advanced machinery for this piece of work, most of us dont have access to this and as such, this guide is very much useless. i mean, who is this video made for? professionals with a 50k $ workshops?
@SwitchAndLever
@SwitchAndLever 4 жыл бұрын
Advanced machinery? I'm using a disc sander, a band saw and a drill press, those are very much not advanced machinery and none of them can't be replaced with hand tools. Use a sanding block, a hand saw and a cordless drill. Further, please watch this: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nMhgpLiWucyVd30.html
