In defense of Professionals. PGA turned down simplfied methods of doing the golf swing

I'm a former PGA instructor. I still teach/coach from time to time because I love it. According to the instructors who teach the Jones/de la Torre system only about 10% of professionals in the US teach to be club centric. The other 90% teach body centric. I don't know how true that is but I can tell you this. From my experience, as well as from published studies on learning motor skills, what Mr de la Torre espouses is far superior. I was coached by the first authorized instructor of the Golfing Machine and I've been immersed in the "swing the clubhead" philosophy. Those two methods are in either end of the spectrum in the extreme but have similarities. Although my mind works in a technical fashion, I prefer the swing the clubhead system. It works for me and I enjoy golf more than I did before. I no longer care about what my body does because it's reacting to what my hands are doing with the club. I can't alter a reaction, I can only alter actions. Just give it a try. "Feel the clubhead weight, swing it over your trailing shoulder with your hands then swing the ENTIRE club with the arms forward to the target in one uninterrupted motion to the finish". Simple. I love it.

@@dougkercher3364 I’ve worked with 4 before getting one that was very down to earth and it was a guy named Jeff Bygrave out of Paxon Hollow golf course in Newtown square who made me feel super comfortable and not like an asshole cuz I was 35 years old and just getting into golf and didn’t understand golf lingo at all. So yea the first 4 we’re talking to me like I was a lost cause. Now 3 years later I’m a 9 handicap thanks to Jeff!! I know there are a lot of awesome instructors but there are a lot of assholes too

Doubt them for sure. But never doubt yourself. He is 100 percent correct. In my opinion the almost 600 tips that have been regurgitated in golf magazine through the years are parasites to our brains that serves to only decrease our ability to swing the club head and send our ball to the target. Cheers. Believe in yourself and once you have the correct swing as he just said: 'Let it go!"

This style of swinging makes golf so much more enjoyable. It has dramatically improved my swing by re-wiring how I think of my swing and how I set up. Not that difficult.

Yes

Absolutely. We had big drivers before he passed. The clubhead still goes in the center, being larger it means the ball is a bit further forward than with a classic driver or any iron. These "ideas" have been working since the beginning of golf and taught to other golfers for nearly 100 years. I wish I'd learned these things much sooner. There's no going back.

He's talking about the concepts everyday players should have. Pros need all that data tech crap, not handicap amateurs.

@@benjaminhogan3157 that "data tech crap" is relevant to anyone that swings a golf club. Concepts are tested and confirmed or dismissed based on the data. Being a ludite in a world of information makes you look silly. Argue for your limitations if you like or use information available to you to be the best version of yourself possible. You don't need to be a pro to benefit

@@ocat1979 Of course not. Now everything is measured and measurable. All swing theories can be measured for effectiveness and thrown out if proven to be ineffective or less effective. For example 'Stack n tilt' should now be referred to as 'stack and wilt'. For any given swing speed, golfers can now get the maximum efficiency and play better golf

I never had a slice. This works fantastic for me. I don't need more length. Accuracy and dependability are fantastic, and trump distance in my game.
