Mazda MX-30 is an electric urban crossover. Mazda designers decided the MX-30 has to stand out from the model range (and the competition). In order to achieve this goal they went with "freestyle doors". Like in the Mazda RX-8, also the Mazda RX-30 gets rear doors, which open in the opposite direction to the front doors.
The Mazda MX-30 range is just around 200 kilometers. However Mazda claims that way the car is greener, quoting research that an average European driver covers 48 kilometers a day. Hence 200 kilometers is enough for almost an entire week.
↔ Mazda MX-30 dimensions:
✔ length: 4395 mm
✔ width: 1795 mm
✔ height: 1555 mm
✔ wheelbase: 2655 mm
✔ boot/trunk: 366 L (341 L with Bose audio)
💲 Mazda MX-30 starting price: 32 645 euro
💲 Mazda MX-30 price as tested: 40 000 euro

Fully loaded demo models with a 5 year warranty can be had for €24k right now. That’s with the incentive already used and a 8 year battery warranty. I feel this is one of the best price to performance EV’s in 2021. Range and AC charging limitations didn’t bother me. Not everyone wants an UP! or Zoe at this price.

I think if it's the same platform they will make an electric cx-30. I think this might be a testing bed for their new interior for the new Mazda's. Like you said this is a competitor for the mini which from what I can gather mazda has tried to get more in the premium market. I think time will tell and new models will show us if mazda have lost the plot. Good review btw

I'm the owner of a 2023 Mazda MX-30 GS as my first EV because I like the look & finish and the way it handles. Price wise, it's pretty good as Mazda offers a 4000$ rebate and another 12000$ in rebates from the federal & provincial governments (Quebec, Canada). I have to say I use it as a second vehicle to do all my shopping/groceries/meetings etc... all within 40 km from my house and I won't use it during winter time (October 31 to may 01). I understand the range is said to be 160 km but I've done more than 180 km on rural roads & city roads and it was showing15% left! But if you're looking for a primary vehicle for all year around including long trips, you should consider an EV with a 360 km minimum range knowing that in winter time when it's really cold (-20c +), you'll be using "heating/heated seats/heated streering etc..." which will have a negative impact on the range (minus 40% +) and it will take longer to charge. 😊 I forgot to mention, my average is 16 kwh/100 km.

I wonder why Mazda tries so often to give us the opposite of what we need (mainly regarding drivetrain choices). For EV drivers I would argue that, currently, the main concerns are the range and charging options. Therefore, why offer a model with limited range that will make you think about charging practically all of the time? It charges really slow as well. I wish Mazda would let Apple worry about the environment (they're already doing a "great job" not shipping chargers with new phones :P) and just make fun cars that offer a carefree experience (talkin' 'bout MX-5! Yeah!).

Well, I visited a mazda dealer last week and had a closer look at the model. Yes! I liked it . But if you are a city dweller who drives up to 30 miles everyday the range is just Ok. However if you plan to visit your parents (in laws) living in a neighbouring city (let's say 60-70 miles away from where you live) on a weekly basis , the range of the vehicle is problem. I think the successor mazda mx30 mk2 should have at least 45 kwh battery capacity

Mazda used to be on top of their game in noughties but I think they really have lost the plot like Marek implies in this video. Two years ago they said no EV one year ago EV with REX now they have an EV which is pretty useless but have anounced they are building new 6 cylinder engines including a 6 cyl DIESEL. They just keep missing the point so it will be interesting to see if they survive the decade.

@husarz
@husarz 3 жыл бұрын
I must say I do like that car quite much. I mean it is not a Mach-E but for that price I'd take it before Xpeng G3. IMO this car is also absolutely better set inside than Polstar 2 - that one is kinda small. ID3 though is more economic and better designed inside - so that you feel more space, although ID3, or even ID 4 for that matter aren't that "premium" inside as MX30. I do sometimes tests of those cars and that's just my opinion. To be honest I think that Mazda hit a Jackpot with this car. It looks and feels luxurious (by the cost of a driving range of course). I'd take it if I was aiming for new car or to lease one, but if that wasn't the case then I'd definitely go for used Kia Soul with much the same range and absolutely better (in terms of comfort, not premium look) and spacious interior design. Cheers mate. Ciekawa recenzja 😁👍 PS. In addition I think that your review is not giving the truth to MX30 - here's why. You review it from a "living in Poland" perspective. And that is just so unfair to this car because there's barely any charging spot in Poland. Believe me, I know! And now think as someone living in let's say Scandinavia - Norway, where a few charging spots are placed near every store. Then it makes sense, am I right?
@MarekDrives
@MarekDrives 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, and no. We could turn this argument around, and assume Bjørn Nyland would say a Mazda CX-30 doesn't make sense, because in Scandinavia it's probably too expensive versus an EV. I can't represent the perspective of every driver everywhere in the world. That being said, I'm not against the range. I'm against making this car more quirky than it should be by a carmaker that keeps telling us how it has to be careful spending money. If Toyota made this, I wouldn't say a word about it. But Mazda is all about being sensible, and refining its petrol engines, etc., and then it does THIS.
@husarz
@husarz 3 жыл бұрын
@@MarekDrives you might be right with that one. Although on Norwegian market this car is most sensible choice at the moment. Within that price no other car offers that much equipment-wise. To be honest I do not think there is even a new car on the market that costs same money. Well there are some more or less same price range: Renault Zoe, Fiat 500, Nissan Leaf. About 20% more expensive are: Kia Soul, Honda-E, VW ID3, Citroen e-C4, BMW i3, Peugeot e208. And now question - which of those are better than Mazda? Next year's Toyota might be sensible choice, but we are talking of "today" rather than "next year". There is Opel seems with some car that looks like VW T-Roc, maybe Dacia (but highly doubt in quality of this one). Seriously, there's like a lot of electric cars. But quality-wise in the price of MX 30 there is nothing that even compares. (I do not compare it with Leaf since I tried both of those cars and there is absolutely no competition here - easy win for Mazda). Cheers and thanks for response. You got a 👍 and new subscriber.
@MarekDrives
@MarekDrives 3 жыл бұрын
At the time I was reviewing the MX-30, this was probably the worst EV on the market in Poland. From my perspective anyway. You could get more range or at least a premium brand for similar money (unless you went to the bottom spec model). From a time perspective the Honda e and New Fiat 500 (or 500e as it really should be called) are much worse EVs (because they are both beautifully designed cars). And in this respect the MX-30 suddenly became a much better proposition. This gives me an idea for maybe a quarterly round-up of what has changed on the market, and what is no longer as bad, as I initially thought it was :) Thanks!

its no more impractical than an electric MINI, Honda e, or FIAT 500e which are its closest rivals price and range wise. Manufacturer's resources aren't really a subjective reason in buying a car, Mazda have clearly made a case for making it and we should be glad they have stood out from the crowd. An electric CX-30 would be a good car but the range would have to be higher and it would be a lot more expensive. This is aimed at urban users probably single people or couples without children, the sort of people who might already drive a MINI, 500, Juke etc, none of which are any more practical.

We love our MX-30. Very nice to drive, and we barrely need to go more then 100km a day, so the range is no problem at all. If we need to go further, we take our Diesel car, since we need two cars anyway. We charge it at home at 2kw/h over night, so charging speed is no problem either. Mazda clearly state that this car is fore people who don't need to drive more the 100 km/day, or as a second car. If you need to go further on dayly basis, this is just not the car for you, just like a Fiat 500 is not the best option if you need a pick-up truck.

You obviously didn't do much research because if you did then you would know the following - MX means special model. The MX30 is special as it's their first EV. CX30 is the new number system - it's their 7th generation Mazda. The CX50 will replace the 5 and the CX3 will be remodelled eventually and made into a CX20. I really hate it when people review cars but don't do their homework. It's not factual. Also, Range has nothing to do with price or not. It depends on needs. If you are doing 70 miles a day the MX30 isn't for you... you go and get something else. If you were looking for petrol or diesel, you wouldn't go and get a Smart car. The MX30 is for someone that does a school trip or low mileage to the shops and back, but needs/wants something a bit bigger than a Honda E or Mini E. End of. Why put it in a class it doesn't belong. Rant over!
@MarekDrives
@MarekDrives 3 жыл бұрын
1. MX stands for (depending on who you ask) Mazda Experimental, and was associated mainly with the rotary engine models. 2. Bearing in mind Mazda was going to put a rotary engine range extender in the MX-30 it kinda sorta makes sense to call it MX. 3. As the MX-30 is basically a less practical CX-30, they could have just made the CX-30 with more powertrain options. 4. However based on the model naming scheme, they weren't even developing the CX-30, because Mazda is special like this. 5. The new naming scheme rumour is just a rumour, though now they have introduced models, which do not fit the scheme, they might do something about it. 6. I'm sure there are people, who fit in the narrow category of "I'm going to overpay for an EV with shorter range than its competitors" (e2008, Mokka e, etc. anyone?), but are there going to be many?

They were very pleased with the aesthetics of the recent Mazda range but had their doubts about the MX-30's practicality, so they parked it in an everyday parking garage and tried to get in and out of the back seat without damaging their own Honda Vezel (HR-V) Hybrid RS parked next to it. The result: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/e6uodbui2rOvp2w.html (Japanese only but the pics are self-explanatory).

I feel like this car is not for the usual Mazda consumer that looks for a commuter car that’s better to drive than a Škoda, it’s an emotional purchase like the Honda e or a mini or a DS 3. I love the hay it looks and I feel like it’s just another attempt at making the hole brand more upmarket, wouldn’t buy it though

Very bad review. Marek, do you think you are smarter than Mazda engineers? All other journalists find this car great. Maybe you just had a bad week.
