To those that didn't see this young man interview after the match, go see it. This young man is quite an example. Watch the little story he starts the interview with. Quite mature, humble and for those who understand English, try to understand what he means when he says "that little boy is no longer a dreamer. From now on I'll play for myself ''. It's sad to see how we let politics in to sport.

Even though I disagree with the russian politics I'd NEVER judge Medved based on my political views on Russia. Politics and sport just DON'T GO TOGETHER. It's not fault of Russians, who are extremelly kind-hearted and benign that their political leaders are controversial. Daniil is a guy who'd you want to have a beer with! An humble, kind and extremelly talended guy who'll win the Grandslam as soon as possible. And he can be sure, the support comes not only from Russia, but from the Czech Republic as well...as for me for example. :)

As a Nadal fan, I completely agree that crowd was more supportive for Rafa and booing constantly and being disrespectful to Medvedev. But I also have to admit that Daniil is really 'dangerous' tennis player. His backhand is huge and powerful, his poker face is so stunning and he is always trying to play with cold head which makes him really good. Not to forget, he never seems tired and he does not give up at all in rallys and during points. Sometimes he has weird and funny moments, but overall he is the future number 1 and hard court king. My hot take is that he will be way better than Djokovic and one of those guys who will dominate on Tour for a long time along Tsitsipas, Zverev and Rublev. Long way ahead of you Daniil and keep up the good work!

This kind of "lads on a holiday" crowd is something totally new. I've followed tennis and AO for decades and have never experienced this kind of behavior in this scale. But perhaps it's the last two years. People have been locked in their cages and this is some sort of a primal reaction when the gate is finally opened. Many people weren't there for the game itself but for other, personal reasons of self-indulgence.

Spot on from Daniil. Deserves much more respect and the hypocrisy of the crowd in this matter also annoyed the heck out of me when I watched the match. Even the Eurosport commentator from the Dutch channel sounded extremely biased, screaming much louder when Rafa did a nice shot compared to the amazing shots Daniil showed. The biasedness is rooted deep within the world of tennis.

just like novak did, medi has to continue to play as amazing as he already does to build up his own fan community step by step - the journey of nole shows how hard that is. I also find this statement kind of contradictory to his other statements where he said that he gains more motivation and energy from a crowd that's not supporting him. On court there's a "I don't give a damn"-Daniil and a "I'm angry"-Daniil - very rarely you see him engaging with the (sometimes little) support of the crowd. Because he rarely does that, he can't expect the crowd and espacially not the big-three fan communities to objectively support players equally. If he keeps playing like this and becomes capable of only focusing and enganging with the crowd that supports him, he will gain more and more support and respect from crowds all arround the world.

The crowd were disgusting, and everyone wanted Rafa to make history! However, as a player, you have to stay focused, and not upset God/The Universe, who will surely reward you, even if everyone is against you, and wants the opposing side to win. Hard lesson here, maybe he got too ahead of himself, maintain monk mode to please God, and keep that high vibration up, you won't lose, relative to your opponent, and especially you are a devout believer.

Actually, I find this surprising. Daniil has no problem with antagonizing the crowd and calling them out, therefore I find it strange he's waiting for their support. Even though he was right to call out the crowd, it's something that isn't necessarily going to make you popular or give new fans. It has nothing to do with him being Russian. If you want to be a 'bad guy', back it up by claiming it and don't look for excuses. It's the same with Novak. If you want the same love and support like Federer and Nadal, or even like Murray and Del Potro, act accordingly. If you feel you're right to act differently, then don't expect the same response from the crowd when it's easy to predict how you win/loose support.

I add that Nadal had some problems with the french public the first years he won en earth at RG .His uncle said " we try (to seduce it) but without succes"... The public of the Franch open is troublesome and reproached Nadal his...invincibility , after 4 ou 5 years of non stop victories (monotony) and May be some coldness, a lack of charism. That is now over ... Medvedev has to learn that it may take some time to earn the empathy of the publics, especially from the handicap of his own behaviour , such as his anger against the referee during his match against Tsitsipas. Medvedev is candid not to have anticipated he wouldn' t be supported by the australian public - Bécause il Was Nadal, of course - Increased by this incident. Djokovic, too, has had to make some efforts in this way, and has improved his image , in some years, even if again damaged by the recent event.

I like part of Medvedev - being outspoken and all. Honestly I quite enjoy his rants and outbursts ON court. And he backs it up with his game. He's quite the breath of fresh air that is needed in the current tennis scenario. But, he also needs to understand how the world works. Achievements alone do not win you hearts. Just like in the corporate world, competence and good stakeholders management skills are equally important. He needs to do some reflection on his own behaviour that contributes to the reaction of people towards him. Stop externalizing everything. His nationality has got nothing to do with it. That is simply not taking accountability of his actions. I am OK with him continuing being himself but he has got to be OK with the consequences. Accept the fact that not everyone is going to like you. You'll live better and will be at peace. Anyways, good luck Medvedev and hope to see you more.

As a Novak Djokovic fan, I know how difficult it is to play against a rude audience that should not be allowed to play tennis matches, because they do not understand that tennis is a gentleman's sport! But it’s an audience that doesn’t like people because they’re champions, but because they’ve received the vaccine. And don't be interested in the opinion of those hypocrites, who condemn your behavior at the winner's ceremony. Your reaction has been human to the disgusting behavior of the audience since the start of the tournament. And unfortunately, he will behave like that whenever you play against players from the west. It's just about that. There is no fair play or anything else. Try to play for yourself and don't pay attention to them, as Novak has been doing all his career! Heads up, Champion!

Is he chippy or what!! When Federer lost to Djokocovid in the 2019 Wimbledon final in five sets, the whole crowd was 99% Fed fans, to be top you have to overcome crowd predilections. Of course it doesn't help, if during the course of a tournament you start insulting the umpires in a fit of pique.

With all due respect to Medvedev, he is just playing victim now cause he lost.. I mean during the OA, he brought up Djokovic multiple times knowing it would pissed off the majority of Aussies, just to troll... Also he didn't missed any opportunity to give it back to the crowd, while he was winning game or ahead in finals.... he feeds on these and that's his character and that's completely fine.. But he need to understand Rafa is a legend and since he was out for long and everything and he came back to fight for record breaking grand slam, of course most people would root for rafa for the fairly tale...it wasn't personal.... When RF came to rise in 2001 I have seen people were supporting Sampras over him but he won over crowd later...In 2005 when rafa came to rise, crowd was supporting RF against him every single game, he didn't sulk , he fought and won over the fans ,.......Crowd is against Djokovic for most of his title games against RF and Nadal, he don't sulk,.. he trolls and get better and wins... Also you cant just be trolling crowd while you winning, bringing up Djokovic multiple times to troll and play victim when you loose to get sympathy points, that's just CARTMAN like shit thing to do.. I hope he will get motivated on hostile crowd (like Djokovic would have done) and be a winner, rather than playing victim card after loosing... Players and people in general are getting too fragile and fell like they are entitled to everything cause they work for 10 years or so , but you gotta earn the respect and love from the crowd over time or just troll them and get motivated from them, like what every GOATs did before you... Nways good luck Medvedev...

So this kid plays against a legend of the sport and he expects the crowd to root for him? The big 3 have earned the worlds respect and fans through over 15 years of being at the top. Meddy has max 5 years in top 10 and one GS. Good for him and best of luck in the future, but you're not yet to be compared to the big 3, you are very far. And on top of that, none of the big 3 have ever had any tantrums like Meddy. Maybe once in awhile, but not on regular basis like meddy..that counts more that being Russian.

I get that they weren't supporting him, but he doesn't do anything to win them over. Instead he is even more infuriated and reacts badly by screaming and shouting. Not to add that he even does this in purpose to "get into the opponents head". He's done this many times, just like others that aren't that loved did some times. He needs to decide whether he's a villlan or a superhero. On one hand he says the negative vibes recharge him, then he says the little kid doesn't want to play anymore because of the bad crowd. Let's first drop the arrogance a bit and try to be more genuine, you're either a villan or a superhero, decide and stick to it. TIP: you want the crowd support?
