Menstrual discs are sometimes confused for menstrual cups, but they really are quite different in how they are inserted, worn, and removed.

I prefer discs. This review is extremely biased and makes it seem as though they are disgusting. But they work amazingly for me. Another commenter mentioned they use a single Softdisc per cycle and I do the same. It all comes down to comfort and personal preference. Who even cares if you get a little blood on your hands?? I would hope everyone is washing their hands after handling these personal hygiene items anyhow. It’s not at all like you’re getting covered in blood while handling them.

I got the impression of that too from the video. I personally prefer using a menstrual disk rather than a menstrual cup (I've tried both.) It's just much more comfortable and easier to use for me. Also, taking a menstrual cup out while taking a shower helps me with the mess. Everyone just needs to find what works best for them!

I think the most important thing to note is that - while rare - it's possible to dislodge your IUD from the suction created by the menstrual cup. The disc doesn't create the same force/suction and therefore is safer for those with IUDs. I kept using a cup for years after getting my IUD in but after my friend ended up dislodging hers and her IUD coming out at home (painful and scary) I went back to tampons, sadly. So excited to be able to safely use a disc, have sex on my period if I want (no cup or tampon in the way!) with no mess. It's disc for me!

I have an iud and my main interest is in being able to use these for sex. I've had zero luck getting the disks in place or being able to tell if it's in right. Honestly, you seem biased against discs. I have tried many menstrual cups to no avail. I've tried the diva cup (both sizes), the yuki cup, and a couple other popular ones I can't remember the names of atm and none of them worked. My problem has always been that my vaginal walls tended to squish the cups and they would never open fully. I've also tried harder cups and those were with too uncomfortable and still wouldn't catch my blood flow. Menstrual discs worked like a charm exactly because they are already flat and sit further inside the vaginal canal, so my walls don't squish it unlike the cups. You turned your nose up at the removal process but I rarely have an issue with messiness or spoilage upon removal. So yeah, try not come off so biased. Cups aren't it for everyone.

I use the Lumma Unique disc and I really like it. I have never been able to insert a cup all the way in and it hurts when it pops open prematurely and when I take it out. The Lumma only takes and 10 sec to insert and about 25 sec to take out (shorter time for me personally than a pad, tampon, and cup). It's a little messy but it's only messy 0-2 times a day verus every time I remove a pad or tampon. The only problem that I have with the Lumma is that it makes me pee more which is probably due to the hardish rim similar to the Flex/Soft but the Nixit and Ziggy have softer rims.

Way I use it is disc at home, cup anywhere else. Why? Removing the cup is usually mess free and you can rinse it with a water bottle in a public bathroom. The disc is way too messy to remove, but compared to the cup I can't feel it at all! The cup is comfortable to wear, but with the disc it feels like im wearing nothing. Been using discs for 16 years. It is farrr more comfortable and easier to insert and remove. It seems very much like this user just had a bad experience and is now making her opinion sound like proof of poor design. When in fact, discs can be very neat/clean to remove and do not push a bloody mess all over the place. I rarely have had a disaster in all my years of using Softdisc/Flex (formerly Instead Softcup) I just purchased Nixit because if its similar design and hope it works just as well for me, though the ring seems a bit too flexy. We shall see next cycle. I love the option for reusable feminine hygiene products, and diva cup just sucked my insides out like a vacuum. Incredibly uncomfortable when I'm already suffering cramps and bloating. I've had my diva cup just sitting dusty in a drawer for ages, now hopefully this Nixit will be my go-to and I can finally stop using wasteful disposables. (Though I only use 1 or 2 Softdiscs per cycle, and that is far less waste than tampons and pads, I'm all on board for a reusable product.)

Is a disc suitable for low/dangly cervixes? I think I have a low and perhaps dangle cervix. I have used the smallest meluna and small si belle cups. Bot leaked within a couple of hours on my heaviest day (which is not so heavy. With pads, i can get away with changing every 5-6 hours on thin ones). And when I took the cups out, they're only half full. Every single time. And I have trouble getting the Si belle in all the way. So, would a disc work? I mean, the cervix wouldn't take space in the disc as much as cups, right?
@PutACupInIt

My cervix likes to dip, too. I find that a slightly wider cup (so maybe the large si-bell instead of the small) gives my cervix room to dip into the cup and still have capacity for my heavy first day or so. That said, a disc could work, too. The say they hold the menstrual fluids is a little different but it should still work - assuming it fits you.

I use a Blossom cup (large, 25 ml) and have a very heavy flow...if I know I'll be out and about on my worst day I'll literally pack a disposable latex glove or two in my purse...empty, wipe with TP and replace it, and then remove and toss the glove in the little trash can, because it can get rather messy to reinsert. MCL The glove is a good idea! I’m going to use that. But wiping with tp seems unnecessary to me and probably not a good idea to be putting those tp fibers onto your cup and then inside of your body. How do you store the cups when you do not use them? How do you discretely carry them with you on days leading up to your period? Do you insert it a day before you get your period or do you wait until it actually happens, but then you are left with messy hands during the insertion?
@PutACupInIt

You can wear the cup safely before your period (unlike tampons) but you will still want to follow the same safety guidelines of 12 hours of wear between removal and washing. A breathable pouch is great for storage. I keep an extra in my purse in one of the cute pouch keychains from the kids accessory section at Target (I couldn't resist the sparkly avocado).

Most cups already come in a little bag for storage and carrying around and no one can tell what's inside unless they're familiar with menstrual cup bags. If you want something cuter you can buy any other little pouch as long as you only use it for the cup. When it comes to your first day of the period, you can either start using the cup a day or two before, or you can put on a liner/small pad or period underwear waiting for your period to come and only then use the cup. On my first day, I always put my cup in while in the shower so it's less messy.

help! I bought the ziggy cup thinking it would be a really great option for me, but YIKES. First, I could not figure out how to properly insert it, and was never able to get a clean insertion that didn't have leaks, or where the disc did not slip down. And second, it hurt, *badly*. It gave me horrible cramps to wear it. I know I must be doing it wrong, but the tutorials from Intimina about how to use it are vague at best. You guys are so awesome and I would love it if you did a more in-depth how to video for discs!

I have a Ziggy disc! Today is my second cycle to use it. This channel has a review of Nexit disc which included the insertion method which I found to be the most useful. On the note of cramps, the use of the Ziggy disc gives me cramps. Since I always get cramps, I feel like I just needed to deal with it. My period doesn't last long anyways. As far as I'm concerned, the pain can be resulted from the cup or disc pushing on the cervix. I need to do some more research though. On a positive note, the cup never slipped for me. I have never had a leak. I can't feel it at all (other than painful cramp). I have read reviews which women said that the reusable cups make them pee more often because the cups pushed on their bladder. However, for this reason I chose the disc over the cup. I love my disc so far! 😊
@zeewann
@zeewann 4 жыл бұрын
Yup - had cramps as well before a youtuber advised aiming downwards when you insert - towards your an*s. I think the cramps are happening because the discs are pushing up against the cervix, which is contracting as a result, so you want to aim for under the cervix by inserting downwards. You could also try the Lumma in a medium. I think they're the only discs that come in different sizes. You might have a low or medium service, which is why you don't have room to anchor the large discs against your pelvic bone. Hope this helps.

So I’ve only ever used a menstrual disc I could never get a menstrual cup in my vaginal canal no matter how hard I tried but the disc worked great for me so I continue to use that. I actually noticed with the menstrual disc when I pee it I actually just dislodge is the disc enough where it actually empties out blood.. I know it kind of sounds weird but it actually is super convenient, especially when the menstrual disc gets full it just kind of releases on its own and then since it’s up past your pelvic bone your pelvic muscles automatically bring it back into place after peeing so it never actually fully dislodges and only opens up enough so It can empty out blood if it’s full. I found the super nice because I never have to pull it out and dump it and put it back in a kind of just does it on its own every time I use the bathroom during a 12 hour time frame.

@@Penelope416 yes! I have a pretty heavy flow. The disc usually auto dumps when it gets to full when you use the bathroom, the pelvic muscles release it automatically when you pee! I just switch from tampons to the disc today, the disk can hold the same amount of about 5 tampons. I haven’t experienced much bladder pressure or difficulty peeing. You do feel slight bladder and cervical pressure as you insert it, but after several minutes, it seems to settle into place and is practically unnoticed. I don’t feel mine necessarily but I definitely can tell that I have something up there(if that makes sense) I do feel slight cervical pressure while in the sitting position on the toilet, but it honestly is not bad at all

I've heard a few people who got worse pain from the cup, but also people saying their cramps decreased considerably or even stopped after starting using the cup. Personally, I used pads before, never liked or felt comfortable using tampons, but I have no problem using the cup. It's pretty great. If you want to buy a menstrual cup and worry about it being painful, please do your research on different types of cups and maybe try one that's smaller and/or softer. Also be aware that it most likely will be a bit painful to put it in the first time and for the first one or two cycles it may feel a bit uncomfortable, but once you get used to it you should not feel it at all.

Because it pops to early i can't get it high enough and therefore I still feel the cup, this is very uncomfortable and can irritate. I have already cut the stem. The cup is to soft to push higher after "the pop". Tips please! 😊😅 I've been using it for almost a year now and still can't figure it out🙈
@veratahserym1635
@veratahserym1635 5 жыл бұрын
My cups also pop early a lot of the time. I’m not sure if this will help because I don’t know how you’re attempting to push the cup higher, but this is my personal method that has yet to fail me: After the pop, I slide my finger alongside the back of the cup so it indents slightly, until I’m *just* under the rim. From there, I’m able to coax my cups up without a problem, but it’s very important to check that the cup still has a seal after this. For reference, I’m using this technique with some of the softest cups on the market (Meluna soft and Sckoon; with my firmest cup being the Lunette size 1). Also, are your muscles relaxed when you try to coax the cup higher? A preemptive pop could cause you to tense up, which can make readjusting the cup both difficult and uncomfortable, so focusing on relaxing for a moment often helps me. I hope this makes things easier for you!
