@Macgyxer
@Macgyxer 4 жыл бұрын
You can cut the dry time by 95%, dedicate a room specifically for drying. Run a dehumidifier with low air movement on a completely sealed off room. Let it run for 3-5 days, measure the moisture content every other day.
@Macgyxer
@Macgyxer 4 жыл бұрын
I’m a structural drying engineer. We use dehumidifiers and air movement to safely dry out solid lumber in 3-5 days without risk of cracking the wood. There are different types of dehumidifiers for different scenarios, you can use a Desiccant dehumidifier over an LGR if you’re worried about heat.

@@Macgyxer Hey sorry to dig up an old thread but I need to build a budget kiln would 2 inch thick walls of foam boards n a 2x4 frame be sufficient for a 12x8x4 ft kiln(solar) taken up to 150 fahrenheit to debug?
@Macgyxer
@Macgyxer 4 ай бұрын
@@johnnycorn7225 should be sufficient! Take into account the type of foam board for heat retention. Most of them melt at 160. Proper insulation and sealing to prevent heat loss. Other than that, I don’t see any issues with what you’re thinking.
@johnnycorn7225
@johnnycorn7225 4 ай бұрын
@@Macgyxer thanks for the reply sir, I could use some 1/4 or 1/2 plywood panels on the inside to make sure they don't melt and provide extra strength n paint them black maybe. I'll angle the roof about 45( in KY) degrees n use the clear polycarbonate stuff n a few solar panels. I'm excited n got a lot of very high end wood to mill and dry

Ought to seel some of those burls to Bentley and Rolls Royce who then make the thin veneers for their dashboards, and all wood trims. My cars have walnut veneer over hardwood and they come up brilliantly after several sandings with wet and dry 2000grit, varnish, sand, varnish, sand, varnish then Meguire's Wetlook.
