I agree that THE AWAKENING is something that would be much more appreciated as an adult. I first read it in my early twenties but think I could appreciate it more now that I'm nearing my mid-thirties. Great reviews!

I just put The Awakening on my library reserve list, because of how well you broke it down. I read it in high school and don't remember anything about it. I'm also now curious about The Grown Up, which I almost picked up today from my Library. Now, I think I'll give it a go. I really appreciate your insights on Purple Hibiscus, especially about the things you felt it did not cover. I read it years ago, and I remember thinking how much Adichie matured as a writer from her first to last novel. The Thing Around Your Neck will forever be my favorite, though (gotta give the short for some love). Great reviews, Mickey! Thanks for sharing.

I really loved Purple Hibiscus and as a result will plan to read all of Adichie's work. I loved how Kambili progressed in the novel. I didn't like the ending because I didn't like the choice her brother made to take responsibility for something but I do get why he did it,

I really need to read Purple Hibiscus. I only have PH and The Thing Around Your Neck. Might have to work it in my 2016 TBR. The Awakening is one of my favorite books. I read it in high school the first time and then a second time in college. Reading it the first time I liked it and really loved it the second time around. Gee wonder if I'll ever get to Gone Girl? lol! The hype was too much for me.

I really really want to read more Adichie, I read Americanah and her short story collection, I don't care what it is about and what it is...if she writes it I will read it, lol. Bah! And I need to read The Awakening. Blerggggg. So many books I need/want to read!!
