Hayley Atwell convincingly sold both "action star kicking ass" and "terrified of everything that's happening" and the combination is what made her character perfect. You were cheering for her but she was also the perfect avatar for the audience's disbelief.

Tom Cruise is the perfect example of how a movie star should be. It doesn't matter how weird he is in real life, or what he does behind closed doors. Because at the end of the day he's an entertainer who entertains. He's an actor that actually works for your money. You know when you buy a ticket to his films he's gonna do everything in his power to earn your time. Most people don't care about celebrity culture especially when it has no impact on their lives. But actors like Tom Cruise and Keanu Reeves actually understand the job and give everything to entertain us.

@@kinnexionI mean he’s definitely done my some things that tip toe towards being a possible horrible human being. Tom Cruise makes great movies but I’m not gonna pretend he’s not a weirdo in his off screen life. It’s also about more than one artist. Hundreds of people make these MI films great. I think the separation is complex and nuanced and depends on the person. You can’t check every purchase you make of course. Just judge things on their own merit.

despite some welcome criticisms with this movie, it was still one of the best moviegoing experiences i’ve ever had. mcquarrie’s directing style has been evolving steadily with his now 3 (and soon, 4) entries in this all-time great franchise… and he’s really come into his own with this one. the dutch angles & unique cinematography, the dialogue, character dev, etc. what a fucking movie. i hope this franchise will continue to deliver as long as it’s in the right hands.

The thing about Cruise and Reeves isn’t that they are ageless wonders, although they are, but if you watch the Behind the Scenes, they are both so damn enthusiastic and dedicated to their craft. It's really amazing what Tom Cruise has done with Mission Impossible. It's not the greatest brand out there when you think of things like Star Wars, Indiana Jones, James Bond, but where the others have lost energy of just went so overblown that lost all sense of reality (Fast and Furious), MI just kept getting better and better. Each of those movies is a well crafted cinematic experience, and some of them are nearly perfect action blockbuster movies. Fallout is one of the best action films of all time. Tom Cruise keeps doing it, and I think no one takes it for granted. Can't wait to see this in theatres.

One of my favorite things in this movie among several other things was actually the "Paris" henchman, played by Pom Klementieff. She gave an interesting Bond villain vibe, and played the part of a psychopathic sycophant really well. A hushed part of the movie's theme came of to me was "what would humans evolve into with an AI at the wheel." Gabriel and Paris are that. Her redemption arc was a nice touch too.

To call it an “arc” suggests a curve. It was more like a bolted on extra, where someone who suffered a knife being plunged into their chest can still lift about 3 times their body weight an hour later and still have time to murmur a few more heartfelt sentences. Arc, meet sledgehammer.

27 years!!! This franchise has been around since I was still a teenager! Before I had kids that are now 20 and 22! That is just insane to think about. With that said, unlike some other long running franchises, *Cough* Fast Saga, these seem to be getting better and better. Safe to say I am excited to see it, in the theater, as it was intended to be seen! Let me also express my excitement to see your film, Chris! As a man that started writing a book damn 8 years ago(wow never really thought about how long it has been) only to have stopped about 75-80% done and no real reason to think that I'll ever finish the last 20-25% because I haven't written anything of any substance in probably 3 years. I know it can be hard to not only start something but even harder to actually finish it! I know you are not 'done' yet but it's a pretty safe bet to say that it will be done and when it is I will be there to see it!

Tom Cruise and McQuarrie are some of the greatest collaborators in the movie industry right now. Different films they’ve been involved in together (some mcQ has been writer or producer instead of director): Jack reacher, edge of tomorrow, 3 mission impossible movies now (about to be 4 with part 2), maverick, valkyrie… just to name a few

Since you saw the film, I wanted to ask how much sexual content was in the film? I did see some naked women who were obscured a bit in the trailer, but for some reason this only has a PG-13 rating for “suggestive material” instead of “sexual content”. Is it like game of thrones where there is very clear full frontal nudity, or is it purposefully hidden for the PG-13 rating?

You have been spreading knowledge and thousands appreciate the way you deliver information. The pacing of the storytelling, worldbuilding, how to approach and break down subjects... Chris, you are an excellent communicator and how you present movies can be used as a template for any other type of presentation. You are a good mentor to many, in how your pursue your dream, share your ideas, providing examples of communicating of subjects like breaking free from religion, dealing with an unsupportive environment... The dutch angles are insane. One of the best franchises out there if not the best. Certainly my favorite. The international espionage. The exotic locations. The team dynamic. The gadgets. The practical stunt work and of course Cruise himself. I saw the first one in theaters when I was 8 years old and little did I know it would consciously or subconsciously start my love for movies. It was one of my first theater experiences while also being my introduction to Mission Impossible, Tom Cruise, and filmmaker Brian De Palma. Since then the franchise has had its ups(Fallout, Ghost Protocol) and some downs(really only MI2, but even that flick is quite frankly more interesting than a lot of bland action films we get today thanks to John Woo). There’s an old Hollywood aesthetic to this franchise not just because of its use of real stunts, but its disregard for modern franchise spin-offs and exhausting lore. While there have been some nods here and there to the previous flicks and tv show, they largely feel self contained. More importantly they still feel like actual events because we don’t get these every year or every other year. Great review as always and I can’t wait to see it.

Tom would play the crazy, do anything, guy and Keanu Reeves is the reluctant sidekick who thought he was badass until Tom's character repeatedly puts them them in insane situations. Keanu will often tell the Tom character: "No f*cking way! Are you out of your bird' brained mind?" Tom X: "we don't have a choice. Just look around. We can't turn back -- and I heard the part about a bird brain -- but right now, either you start running, or I'll pick your pseudo samurai ass off the floor and.. "God damn. As much as I love James msngold, Christopher McQuarrie should have been the director to handle the final Indiana Jones film. Mangold relied to heavily on CGI, they shot the whole film in the Uk. @rogerkincaid931

Mangold did most of the shoot in the UK, but they also went to Sicily and Morocco, which is one of my gripes with the movie, really: everything still looks like it was CG, despite on-set locations. Also, ironic trivia: the train sequence in _Dials of Destiny_ was shot on a non-existing railway track constructed specifically for another movie, _M:I - Dead Reckoning._

@@rogerkincaid931 they may have shot some 2nd unit location work in other countries, but it looked like ILM touched up every single shot, making it all look fake. The last scene in Morocco with the broken down tuktuk; looked like it was shot in front of a green screen with cgi extras walking through the background. The entire scene was close-ups. Mangold need to pull the camera way back; shoot on film and leave out the digital enhancements. Another awful sequence was the New York rooftop sequence where it is clearly not New York. New York is full of streets that haven’t changed in 70 years. Which is why so many period Films shoot there. Simply shoot it there then remove a few newer buildings and it’ll atleast look more real.
