Super instructive video! Only thing I would like to ask is, after adjusting it exactly this way, should there be any free play even minimal at the clutch case side? I set the free play on my Yamaha R1 and i noticed that on the right side (clutch case) there is no free play to the clutch arm. I assume since it is adjusted property down and at the clutch perch should be ok anyway? Thanks, Chris.

Hi John, I removed the clutch cable to lube and when reinstalling , just could not get it right like the service manual tells to. Bike is a Kawasaki Z800 , which Kawasaki in their infinite wisdom wants a 60' angle at the release lever to the clutch cable angle. Does the angle really matter that much if the freeplay is perfect .. Asking since when you adjusted here, you didnt seem to worry about the angle of the lever ( lever on the clutch cover )

If I have all the clutch plates replaced on my cbr954rr, how long should they last? I had it done at a shop about two months ago, and I’ve only ridden it for about a month or five weeks. Now I have to choke up on the adjustment screw so there’s no threads left. Is that normal???

Hi John. You being a clutch expert, maybe can take me out of my misery trying to understand, why some clutchs has various types of friction disk? and some not? and what is the differente between the disk and the consecuences of using the same disk on the entire basket? I have a Yamaha FZ6, and it has 7 friction disk 1 type and 2 different type of disk on both ends of the clutch basket, why are those different? I ask because after i rebuild my clutch, i realized seeing this video and checking my bike manual, that i made a mistake and put 9 friction disk of the same type on my bike... it works, but its dragging at little at engagement, so i dont know if that is the reason. Thank you.

It could be. Is that the only time it slips? Adjust your cable and see if it helps. If it doesn't, you may need to service your clutch.

Any recommendations on an 08 600rr that shifting gears requires 2-3 times the amount of normal pressure than other bikes? 9k miles track bike, just very difficult to shift and find neutral

Is it true that the clutch fork thats on the motor (the shaft with the spring on it) should be 90 degrees to the motor? Mine is more arpund 75 or 80. And I have about a 1/4 inch of free play between the the end of the adjuster and the where.the cable goes into the lever. Is this right? The bike doesn't creep forward and disengages fully.
@PartzillaParts

That's not typical, there usually isn't play there. might be something to inspect.

How do i know that Its time to adjust the clutch? The bike is now creeping foward with the clutch lever fully pressed. Is it time for an adjustment? When i press the lever there is a large zone where it depresses with no resistance and then finally starts to resist until its fully depressed
@PartzillaParts
@PartzillaParts 7 жыл бұрын
Definitely time for an adjustment. There should be an adjustment at the lever and at the clutch. Tighten it up! When you pull that lever, the clutch should not engage at all.

Do pull the cable down at the clutch cover all the way forward then tighten it? Wouldn't that be disengaging the clutch without pulling the lever in? Or do you pull the cable back then tighten it I am confused.

You don't push it forward to disengage, you are just pushing forward to eliminate slack.

If you have bad plates, you'll have slippage. It's normal for the wheel to spin a little when you pull in the clutch on the stand. If you put your hand on it, does it stop or do you have to force it to stop with some real pressure?
