So now, you need to compare the pro v1 reload at 22$ versus some brand new golf ball like titleist truFeel or Callaway supersoft or any brand at 22$ to see if it’s better to buy used pro v or brand new ball! Peace

I’ve bought some “reloaded” pro Vs before, and the biggest difference right out of the box is that the refurbished balls have scuffs and defects in the cover, but have been cheaply repainted to hide these blemishes. Sometimes it’s a small mark, but sometimes it’s not. After hitting them a few times, the repainted areas lose the touch-up paint, and the original blemish (cart path/tree scuff) is revealed. I’m not sure that hitting into a simulator screen will give the best comparison here, primarily because of the large number of aero-affecting blemishes on the cover of the used balls. These rough spots on the cover of the used ball (in my mind) should have a large impact on the ball flight when hit outdoors where the air drag will be allowed to manifest.

I didn't understand the "semi-stealing, in my opinion" comment. In my opinion, $48 is semi-stealing. I've played the "reloaded" ProV1 balls and as an 8 handicap don't really see much difference. Granted, I pick the better looking ones from the box which is usually about 8 or 9 out of 12 making it still a good deal for the money. Spend your money the way you want but I'll continue to buy the reloads. These companies charge what they do because they give the pros an unlimited amount of equipment to play with. We're paying the bill.

I think you are leaving a bit out on recycled/ Refurbished vs used. The implication I got is recycled balls are balls that are basically too badly beat up to be resold as used but are then stripped, have their cover marks filled and are repainted by a 3rd party. Lost or used golfballs are essentially balls that have been hit a few times or were played a few holes and lost. The key difference is that they are still a full prov1 but just used. No fillers, repaints, or had their covers manipulated and still have Titleist quality control. The recycled balls could have been in god knows what condition and then are made to look nice even though the condition of the ball underneath could be compromised.

IF...golf is played in those 6" between your ears... Matt you should try this as a blind study where you don't know what you're hitting, but a proctor does... Refurbished golf balls are always super sus anyway, if you're only planning on spending $25 on a box then get some new wilson duos or better yet K-sigs from cosco and go have fun with this awesome sport When my dad has a shot over water, that's when he plays a "lost and found ball" but i always tell him that's when he should play a good ball...but then again his good ball would typically become someone else's "lost and found ball" so what do I know. Cheers! Your energy and content is GOLD by the way. Look forward to streaming you on Golf Channel some day

Great smash factor! I think sub 2k spin is too low for 100ish mph SS. I found same thing playing these, you get some good and some bad ones which leads me to lack of confidence. Switched to Z star and Bridgestone XS picking them up at often buy 2 get 1 free sales which Titleist never does and are very similar imo.

Interesting comments! I would like just like to add that in order for this to be a better test...MSG would have to try several boxes of the reloaded golf balls to get a better feel of their consistency. I buy "used" ProV1x's online rather than refurbs. You can pick the model year you want and I've never noticed much a difference between used (not refurbished) and new. I really don't know the difference between used and refurbished but since I've had good results with my online retailer I stick with them. I think I pay about $20-$25/dozen and these are newer ProV1 models. I'm an average golfer so YMMV.

@@RahulGupta-cj7gq Well yes, but that's because the Kirkland is a 90 compression ball, compared to a 100 compression ball, but the difference is only about 5-10 yards. Yes the big hitters will need an X type ball, but most people swinging under 110 MPH, would benefit from the Kirkland. The only problem I have with them, is that the cover does not wear as well as the Titleist but then again, neither does any other ball.

I highly recommend if people are looking to save money they use high quality used balls like from lostgolfballs.com vs refurbished. With refurbishing, you never quite know what you are getting plus its not like its Titleist doing the reconditioning. It's a 3rd party company that likely has little quality control compared to titleist. I checked their website and 4a provs are like $23 per dozen which is like a few dollars more. At the end of the day people can play what they want, but if I want to play a Prov1, I want want to play a prov1 that is full "prov1" from cover, to paint job, to quality control, to performance vs a ball that's been stripped and repainted. If you aren't looking for consistency, I don't know why you would go for a Prov1 in the first place. I know there is a market for refurbished but it just doesn't seem worth it when you can buy used for around the same price

Unless your a pro, Never tee off on the 1st hole with a brand new Ball. It puts more pressure on you psychologically and makes for a tougher drive. Wait until your into the game and break it out on a wider hole you favor. This will make a big diff in your game as less pressure and better ball contact will outweigh the little bit extra yardage you may get if hit perfectly with new ball. You will see better scores and a better start with this tip.

So I grabbed 36 pro v used balls off one of the major golf online retailers on black Friday or during a good sale before the season. Out of 36 only one had looked like it was painted over a scuff, some had logos on them but they were all near mint looking. I don't have a Trac man or anything but they've been decent so far as far as look and feel. They were 30 dollars for 36 balls! I think reload ones that Matt was using may be the ones that aren't good enough to pass on to these websites, but I'm not sure. On some of those sites like 2 guys with balls they are graded by them and you can choose what year and mint, near mint on down the line but they definitely aren't 30 bucks for 36. I think without the sale I had they may have been 50 bucks for 36 balls. Anyways, my point is that I like to play a consistent ball but I'm not quite rich enough, and lose too many balls per year to justify buying brand new pro v's very often. If I want brand new balls, vice pro plus, and Cut DC Blue have been pretty good to me in the past. I always keep some of those around for special occasions lol. But by my observation the ones Matt had definitely looked like crap compared to the ones I received from rock bottom golf. (Almost positive that's where I got them) Sorry for the incoherent, scrambled up post. It was a long day at work and I have to wake up early for a round tomorrow so I'm not gonna have time to edit. I think the fact that dispersion was drastically different from your irons to your driver show that either the test methodology is flawed, or that the balls actually perform the same. I feel like the driver test was skewed. If you look at face angle and club path on reloaded vs prov1 there’s a difference.

Those were recycled, not refurbished. The refurbished ones have been stripped and repainted. Would love to see a comparison with actual refurbished as they could be any old ball repainted as a ProV1

My main question is how quickly does a premium ball degrade during regular play? In other words, the average golfer hits the ball 80+ times per round. Assuming we don't lose the ball and keep playing the same ball, it was only a "new ball" on the 1st tee. After that, it becomes a used ball. So, after how many strikes will that new ball start to behave like a used ball? Since only pros can afford to tee up a new ball on each hole, the average golfer is playing with used balls for the vast majority of their round. If the new balls revert quickly to the average shot dispersion of the used balls in your test, then the justification for paying double for new balls kind of disappears.

I scooped up two sets of the titleist promotion a month or two ago and they ended up sending me nine dozen, one extra dozen. So now I’m playing with brand new pro v ones for the next couple years at 2:50 per ball or 30 per dozen but even if they didn’t send me an extra dozen they still would’ve been under three dollars oh that’s right I used a $30 award certificate as well so just forget it you’re not gonna get as good a deal as I did

I get balls from companies that sell what is called "One Hit Wonders". Someone hit them once. Lost it. Someone collects it and sells it to you for better than half off. Never been disappointed.

Funny. My golf buddy only buys ProV1. They lose way more balls than I do. I can play a “cheaper” ball and have better shots. 😂

No offense, after all, you're an excellent golfer, but I don't think even excellent golfers with our swing inconsistencies can produce a test worth anything. Sure, an Iron Byron, but not a golfer. Even pro elite golfers can go on spraying binges. With that being said, I wouldn't spend $2 for any used balls.

But me if I’m going to buy a new box I prefer Bridgestone it’s just me. Usually an e6 special treats I might splurge and get tour rx or something. I like titleist who doesn’t but I’m not paying 54 plus dollars on a pack of balls. My clubs cost 500 for all my clubs just feel it’s ridiculous if you’re a high handicap to hit an expensive ass ball

I think once I get better, I'll consider new higher end balls. But the fact I shot my best score of my life last season with the cheapest Wilson ball from Walmart, I'll wait and save money.

The people who the pro v1 is made for dont care about price, the people who care about the price arent good enough to notice the difference from any ball.

So here is a tip: If you are a high handicapper buy the refurbished golf balls since you will probably lose some of them while playing. If you are a low handicapper, go into your wallet and get the best golf ball out there, Titleist ProV1. Enough said. May you always hit fairways and greens.

If you make 18 holes with the same ball (and that's a big if for me) isn't that ball now one of those used ones, that you will pull out of your bag and use again after you lose a couple of brand new ones..Point being...depending on your skill level, nothing wrong with a used ball..

using used balls is a bad habit simple has that. Since they're used the flight path is not optimal on every shots and it directly affects confidence. If the thought process is ''oh no! there's water in front of me so I'll use a used ball in case I miss'' is terrible. Counter productive starting on the negative side thinking you'll miss the shot.

Depends on which level you play. For my game I would still get the enjoyment out of the cheaper balls. If I wanted new balls, I could still buy a dozen new balls for the same price although not Pro V 1 balls.

As you mentioned in the beginning, the refurbished Balls are not realy the same type. I think this is might be the reason why they are not as exactly performing with the driver. In real live you are not hitting one refurbished ball after a nother. You are playing the very same ball again and again - till you loose it again. So what?

You should’ve bought the ReLoad Pro V1 Refinished balls which refurbished THEN refinished so there are no scuff marks, logos discoloration… here’s the review straight up against brand new Pro V1’s. m.kzfaq.info/get/bejne/o9Vzq9ly0bzNgaM.html Here’s the refurbish/refinishing process at ReLoad Golf Balls: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/b92DetSAz9ypfJc.html

If you want cheap Pro V1's the secret is to play the Pro V1 practice balls. They are exactly the same as brand new pro V1's (Titleist has even admitted this). You just can't use them in tournament play but that doesn't matter to most people.
