I've still failed to use the adapter, I've just never found a need for it as I always use bottled ink. The hard medium I had received previously was really quite hard, so I much prefer the soft medium nibs they provide. I think the issue is that they don't stock that many Nakaya's and would need to order another from the factory as Nakaya don't sell replacement nibs it seems to retailers. I did get the nib swapped eventually but it was a bit of a hassle.

@@PenultimateDave I'm glad you got it swapped. Now you have me wanting to ink up my own soft medium...even if it's on a Platinum 3776!

I think that Nakaya aficionados might like to see what urushi looks like on a 9 year-old pen compared to a new one 👀👏🙏

I've seen some Nakaya's that have changed colour over the 9-10 years and the transition can be quite beautiful!

That's indeed disappointing you experienced issues with nibs too. I somewhat feel their motto is buy them in, sell at discounted prices and don't take much care at the point of sale. I'm sure they'd argue differently, but it seems from my multiple experiences with their sales techique there's always something wrong. Perhaps more recently they've addressed those problems from what I've heard from someone who has recently purchased from them.

@@PenultimateDave Iguana Sell is a large shop. I have spoken to them several times - in Spanish so that there are no misunderstandings between them and me - at the end, a woman I spoke to told me, they need several weeks or even months to get nibs and fountain pens from Japan - we are talking about urushi pens - so that is one reason for the delays and troubles, the other topic is that they do not have very good customer care. What I do, always when I'm spending more than 700 € on a pen, there is one shop not far away from my place where I find all those brands, so I buy there. If troubles arise, I go personally there.

Yes, I too prefer the Toki-Tamenuri I have.... hands off! 😉. At the time both were available so I decided to get the Heki-Tamenuri as the price was good. Yeah it was a disappointing experience, and not the first from them, so I won't be ordering anymore from them, but I have had friends in the past and more recently that haven't had any issues. I seem to be more unlucky than lucky when it comes to experiences like this!

Yes I did eventually get a replacement nib, the one I had ordered in the first place, it took a while to have to ship the entire pen back for them to ship the pen back to me with the correct nib, but it all worked out in the end, even though I was being asked to pay return postage, which I of course refused.

I would say I was initially disappointed by the Nakaya soft-medium nibs, they definitely are not soft compared to many soft western nibs like Bock can sometimes be, whether it's 18kt Gold, 14kt Gold or Palladium. Mine aren't scratchy but definitely write on the dry side of dry.

I'm the same Lisa, Dorsal Fin 2 in Aka-Tamenuri is still one I would like to get at some point, but I find most of the Platinum/Nakaya nibs quite hard and a little too fine for my liking. I have thought about maybe getting a broad, or maybe a soft broad if they do one and see how that writes. I'm glad I'm not the only one that has had issues with Iguanasell. I have quite a few friends who have used them repeatedly and not had any issues, but each time I've used them I've always had some kind of issue and very reluctant to fix the problem.

@@PenultimateDave I’m glad others have had a positive experience with Iguanasell. I’ve had issues with at least four orders and cancelled two of them. Delays of circa 4 months on a Visconti Homo Sapiens Dark Age and Blue Lagoon. Cancelled my Pilot Custom 823 Smoke order after 3 months delay. I just wish they were up front about items not being in stock and taking longer to be delivered so you make a decision on whether to go elsewhere. Unfortunately, I ordered a Namiki Yukari Nightline Moonlight Raden from them as it was out of stock everywhere else. I love the smooth consistent Pilot nibs and I’m wondering if I made a mistake. I know these pens are a work of art and take time to make but it’s been 7 months and I’ve not heard anything about how much longer it’s going to be. Fingers crossed for a speedy delivery of one of my grail pens
