Nakaya is probably on the top of the list for me when it comes to handmade pens made out of urushi-coated ebonite. I have other pens that are urushi coated but the tame-nuri process makes the pen glow and look different as it interplays with light. Like many people, I have peered into many a glass display case wondering what a Nakaya would feel like to use.
As getting a new Nakaya would entail a long waiting time and would involve a large credit card bill for even the most basic of versions, I decided to get a used one just to experience the pen.
In a nutshell, do you need a Nakaya? No. Other mass-produced pens might perform better for you. But it is definitely a pen to be obtained if you want something that has that hand-crafted feel to it, and to have a pen that is possibly very different from others in your collection.
