This week, Dusty reminisces about Thanksgiving recipes no longer with us, Nate questions whether his dog does too much sniffing, and Brian takes us back to his childhood when seeing a deer was a novelty. Then they get into the topic of Mythical Creatures which quickly segues into the guys forming two new organizations, NOSO (National Ocean Stuff Only) and SLARS (Some Lakes And River Stuff).

I've listened to all 176 episodes (some multiple times) Nate telling Aaron "he could do a cannonball to start us off" might be the line that has made me laugh the hardest, The visual of Dusty and Nate on a starter block and Bates holding his stopwatch on side of pool with Aaron doing a cannonball is absolutely gold!! Episode was HOT!

I'm with Dusty. The bygone era of the older ladies at church having their "go to" recipes that everyone wanted the recipe for seems to be long gone. Those women planned weeks ahead & even stressed over their church potluck items. It was like semester finals to them. Now most gals run into Sam's Club right before sunday school and grab a tub of chicken salad and some oreos and expect the same credit. There's still some fine church ladies out there but as Dusty said, they're a dying breed.

Nate, you are on fire today. I have family members and friends who deal with crippling anxiety. Asking them to care about a million years down the road is crushing when they barely have the strength to deal with today. The millennial generation is awesome and I am mother of two who fit that category but dealing with the far distant future and insurmountable problems is killing them. My doctor told me we are engineered to care for our village and not the world. Let's start with taking care of our village.

Honestly Nate dropped some serious wisdom around the 2:04 mark. It’s easy to theoretically care about civilization a million years ago, it takes much more to deeply care and help with the problems of real people in our own lives and communities, but that’s what ACTUALLY matters. Nate’s a really good person.

Dressing > Stuffing. I'll die on that hill. Dusty, I started making the dressing a couple years ago after my grandmother-in-law became too old to assist with the cooking. I use her recipe. I will be happy to share it. It is dope. It is moist. It is flavorful.

Dusty's observation about family dishes touched me. Here is a dressing recipe for you. My daughter and I make a triple batch for Thanksgiving and Christmas. 1.5 cups chopped celery, 1 cup chopped onion, 2 Tablespoon fresh sage, 1 Tablespoon fresh thyme, 2 teaspoons salt, 1 teaspoon peopper. 2 sticks butter, 1 loaf Italian bread. Cube the loaf of Italian bread, Heat butter in skillet (cast iron heats most evenly), saute celery and onions until soft, add 1/3 of the cubed bread and mix. Scoop cooked mixture into a bowl with seasonings and rest of bread. Mix well. Refrigerate until ready to use. Then bake in covered pan at 350 for 20 min, uncover and bake for 5-10 more and enjoy!

The answer to losing family recipes is for the younger generations to actually spend time in the kitchen with the elders to learn from them. My Mom taught me certain dishes, as well as my Mother-in-Law did. My Dad taught me some Portuguese dishes I continue to make. I, in turn, passed on some of those dishes to my daughter who is an amazing cook. Only one of my granddaughters is interested. This Christmas she will make stuffed shells and ricotta cookies with me. She is only 13 and can make pasta from scratch. I do wish she could have learned to make what we called “Papa’s Meatballs” (my late husband) before he passed. We are trying to recreate them. Too many kids, including some of my grands have their noses in their electronics.

As soon as I saw the title I knew this would be an excellent podcast for Dusty. As far as Loch Ness goes, it’s totally plausible that Nessie left Loch Ness by way of an underwater connection to the ocean that has since closed. Then she died somewhere in the ocean and that’s why we haven’t seen her. In 1930 there wasn’t the technology to rule this out. Edit: I made this comment before Dusty basically said the same thing.

Stuffing is the "raw" dressing that goes in the bird and gets cooked with the bird, in the bird. Because of the juices and basting, it's the best dressing. The "raw" dressing that doesn't fit in the bird gets cooked separately. It can all be mixed together for the dinner. The mixture of seasonings, onions, celery, breadcrumbs, and chicken or turkey broth isn't raw, but gets cooked nonetheless to blend the flavors and cook the celery and onion. Plus any other ingredient you want in your dressing/stuffing.

I thought the difference between stuffing and dressing is traditionally one is stuffed in a turkey and the other is made on the side
@cbailey4322
@cbailey4322 7 ай бұрын
It is. It’s also a little regional - I say stuffing even when it’s not stuffed in the turkey and one could argue that it’s really dressing. The personal recipe doesn’t change. I would use some of it to stuff in turkey and put the rest in a casserole dish. Dusty seems to think they are different recipes. It is person by person by not one recipe for stuffing and a separate recipe for dressing. (Ok, there may be someone out there that does two recipes but most likely it’s not).

I get what Dusty is saying about how the food tastes different that the older people make. My dad has a theory, that the cookware they have used to make the food in for years has something to do with how it tastes. My Grandmother has a blue pot she always cooks turnip greens in, and my Dad swears that it's because of that pot that her turnip greens are the best. Might be a crazy idea but I thought it was an interesting theory. Love the show guys!

Such a funny concept…invest all this time to solve this existential problem and finally land on mars, as the 4.5 billion year timer strikes 0:00, saving all of humanity…only to realize…when the sun burns out mars will freeze too. Dusty had me rolling on this episode.

Wow! My 5th comment on the podcast and the 2nd time Nate said my name sounds like I’m a wildcard that left the family business. While there’s no family business to have left, I am a left-handed middle child who enjoys the road less traveled. Probably why I love this podcast of 4 guys who all live differently than most. Always a fan! Keep up the great work!

Dusty, my comment a few episodes ago was part of how adamantly you defended yourself when I said that Bouncehouse would blend in better on a soccer field. You kept saying I didn’t have any idea how good you could swim. I still have my doubts but I’m looking forward to the next Krispy Kreme challenge in this swimming race. You guys gotta make this happen

I was SO excited to get my comment read on the previous episode (bathrooms), and it was very anticlimactic 😂 I asked the question about least favorite animals and Nate shrugged and said “I don’t know,” Brian kinda answered and the other two didn’t answer. 😂 Also, no one said anything about my name (which I get because it’s pretty basic). Regardless, it made my day and I would expect nothing less from the BAND.

In high school, my friend has a peacock that showed up at their house and lived on their roof. We would go over there and swim, hang out on the porch, and have sleepovers and it was always there. Then one day about a year later, it flew away and was never seen again.

We had peacocks when I was little. My grandparents lived next door to us and they loved them. The peacocks would come up on the porch to their living room window. Grandparents would get such a kick out of them looking in to their living room. And if I'm not mistaken (which I could be), I believe the military used to use guineas as watchdogs on bases. Keep up the great work, fellas. Nate, wife and I have our tickets already to see you here in Corpus Christi next year!

Howdy from Hamilton, ON Canada, boys! Your discussion on the Canadian accent was an interesting one. I can tell you that people who live in British Columbia don't have the same accent as people who live in Newfoundland & Labrador. Even people in Southern Ontario who are close to Buffalo, New York, sound different than people who live farther north in Ontario. We have the same accent variety as in the US. It's vast and varied. And people in Quebec, well, that's right off the accent map! Anyway, love you guys so very much!! Dusty, can't wait to see your Netflix special!!! So excited!! Aaron, keep on truckin', dude! You are gonna make it big!!! Brian, you are the Alex Trebek of Nateland!! And Nate, you are the funniest, most authentic and lovely comic I have seen in a long long time! And with Brian, Aaron and Dusty, you guys are a comedy supergroup!!! Never change!!! I'm out!!! xoxoxo

I can’t decide who was more fired up: Dusty about swimming or Nate about scientific research. It was fun to watch these passionate discussions that ended with “none of this matters” and “I don’t mean anything.” Also, I made my Mom’s and Mother-in-Law’s recipes for Thanksgiving. Trying to keep the Texas Tators, Heavenly Onions and Homemade Noodles magic alive.

2 lbs bulk pork sausage 1 cup chopped celery 1 cup chopped onion 2 bags (14oz each) stuffing mix (herb) 2 cans cream of celery soup 2 cans chicken broth (3.4 cups) 1 1/3 Tbsp dried Sage 1 tsp basil 1 tsp paprika 1 tsp oregano Cook pork sausage. Add chopped celery, onion, and sage about halfway through. Cook until well done. Put stuffing mix in bowl. Add 1 can chicken broth and stir to coat stuffing. Add remaining can of chicken broth and the 2 cans of celery soup. Add pork sausage mixture to the stuffing. Stir well. Press into pan (I use a 14.5 x 11 x 2 inch lasagna size pan for it). Cover tightly with foil. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour. Remove cover and bake for another 20-30 minutes (until it is 160 degrees). Be careful not to overcook or it will dry out. Hope you like it. It's like a meal in itself! I never liked stuffing before I had this recipe.

Starting off with Dusty vowing to train so he can be the best Nateland swimmer, we get a Nate rant at Aaron in the middle while Bacon Bits makes snarky comments and tries to keep the show on task,and ending with the boys solving our homeless AND bigfoot problems, this episode is a classic. I can't tell you how happy I get every Wednesday morning. Also, my prediction: Dusty is going to show up the day of the race ripped like Phelps, ready to hurt yall's pride and win the gold.

Hello bears and hey folk (a tribute to how y’all messed up Nate’s intro). This was the funniest yet somehow dullest episode yet. My favorite part is how y’all have been arguing for weeks about the “sport hypothetical” and Badminton is still the only one that understands what blending in is. I immediately thought of the movie Miss Congeniality with Sandra Bullock. There has to be a folk out there that can photoshop each of you with your sports team to see if you blend. I’d love to see Dusty cropped in with the US Olympic team, and Nate with the Olympic basketball team! Thanks for doing your part on solving the world’s problems by paying the homeless to find bigfeets, and thanks for the laughs on my commutes. (I wonder what people think when they see me by myself in my truck literally laughing out loud)

In 2003, the BBC sponsored a search of the loch using 600 sonar beams and satellite tracking. The search had sufficient resolution to identify a small buoy. No animal of substantial size was found and, despite their reported hopes, the scientists involved admitted that this proved the Loch Ness Monster was a myth.
