Gold Hill is the most famous view in England, best known for featuring in the famous 1973 Hovis bread advert. Whilst the classic view from the top of Gold Hill is widely recognised, what lies above and below the hill may be a mystery to anyone unfamiliar with the area. This video gives a brief insight to what lies above and below Gold Hill, in a continuous, seamless journey from the top to the bottom - and a little beyond!

As a Brit now living in tropical Asia this makes me nostalgic. I used to drive past Shaftesbury all the time with family but have never actually visited Gold Hill! The Lark Ascending brought a bit of a tear to my eye as it was played at my Mum's funeral.

As an Aussie, I had never heard of this place or anything things bout it. Even starting to view the video it was a complete unknown, but as you turned that corner my heart dropped, and instantly knew it was about the view. Utterly breathtaking. I didn’t know such beauty could exist, let alone become so organically.

I visted Shaftsbury 20 years ago, during a tour of beautiful Dorsetshire, mainly to see this famous hill--and the magnificent view from the top, of course. Finding it then, wasn't over easy, I was very surprised to learn that the access was via a narrow entrance out of the High Street, almost hidden away. I also visited nearby Sherborne, and, even today, I get mixed up with both these charming historic towns.

I'm sure you'll fall in love with England once you visit... there lies a beauty only those who loved it without seeing will understand. I have been too many times, never to the same place... do visit, and don't wait to get too old because you'd want to go back again and again. I was lucky to see Princess Diana getting out of Buckingham Palace back in 1988... she was more beautiful than any picture could tell... and her smile so beaming and touching our hearts... I will never forget it.

@@michaelholdsworth6117 You are right, it is Dvorak's New world symphony, but music itself is about un-English as you can get. Dvorak wrote is symphony to reflect the different styles of music to be found in the New World. This particular piece, from the second Movement was written to emulate the Negro Spirituals of the south. It is often thought that Dvorak lifted this piece from an existing tune, but it is an original piece. The song going home were added much later. You wouldn't want to have to jog home with those hills. That is serious cardio.

John Smith In Clovelly, Devon , which is where I thought the Hovis advert was filmed 😳, you could grab a donkey and get a lift up the hill. Actually I'm not sure if you can ride the donkeys but you can use them to pull your shopping or heavy items up the hill because you can't drive up there.
