I review an old but anyway one of the last SLR analog film cameras from Nikon, a semiprofessional camera, that I like more then the Nikon F5, that was their professional model at the time the F100 was released. I often bring this camera on my holidays and the images in this review is from one of my recent trips to southern France.

I've used the *F100 as my primary 35mm camera for about 15 years. I like it so much that I bought a second to put in storage against the event the current one fails. My first Nikon (sort of) was a Nikkorex F in 1962. I've used most of the Nikon models since then, and I still own some of the most popular, just for old times sake. IMO the F100 is the most usable, ergonomically friendly NIkon ever made. It has all the features anyone could seriously use, and then many additional. It is in no way as strongly built as an F5 or F6, but it's good enough, and it offers lighter weight and size in trade. In the past few years, it has sold used at ridiculously low prices, probably because it had not been subjected to social media hype until this last year.

I agree that the F100 is an awesome camera, that was also why I sold my first F5 and kept the F100 instead, but as I said in the video, I regretted selling of the F5 and went for this very little used camera. Bad luck that it still doesn't work, but if I get it to work, I'll keep both this time.

alternate your camera usage. Nothing kills a camera faster than storage without use. Also the F100 has a known issue with back door latch breaking due to plastic design. there are kits on ebay (I used one) to have a metal fix)

@@andre1987eph I do alternate, but it's difficult when you have more than 50 different cameras, you use once in while. But it's completely true, you have to use them - maybe once a year is enough.

Great review. I love ❤️ your channel. I have 2 F100s and one thing to be careful about is the film door latch which is plastic. Just be easy opening and closing the film door.

I wasn't aware of that issue, I'll be careful. Thanks for your comment.

A great video. I love my F100 with battery grip like yours. I usually buy a grip for each camera I purchase because I like having the vertical shutter release button on the grip. I personally think the F100 is the best Nikon film camera available today.

Definitely a great camera. Agree to the battery grip, I usually also buy one for my cameras.

I have a F100, and about 30 other Nikon bodies in my collection, but to be honest I don’t really like it. Firstly, it is too big and heavy for me, I like something like the little FG better. Then there is the front control dial to set the aperture, I find it difficult to turn it seems quite stiff, and I find I have to press quite hard on it to get it to turn; much prefer an aperture ring on the lens. Despite the camera not being. Very old, it is one of the newest in my collection, the backlight on the LCD display on top of the camera has faded, and is now very dim. The manual for the camera does warn that this will happen and says that it can be replaced by Nikon, but I doubt that replacements are available now. The same problem affects the F90x. I have very poor eyesight now, type 2 diabetes related, and I find the viewfinder display almost impossible to read, and sometimes even to see at all; meter needle or LED is better for me. At least the camera will meter with manual focus lenses, which many of the auto focus cameras will not. Also, the camera cannot use I modified pre-ai lenses at all.

Thanks for your comment. I havent experienced the same problems, and to me the F100 and the F90x is the best

Is there a way to use "E" type lenses i.e. Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 200-500mm f/5.6 E ED VR Autofocus IF Lens leaving aperture at 5.6 (no control)? I routinely use F100 with my 105 f2.8G VR and it went exceptionally well!

4:06. your film looks underexposed. One Rule of Thumb I learned with film school is 1). Always take the rated Box Speed of a negative Film and divide it by two and use that number as your rating. For example, I rate Kodak 400 Tri-X at 160 or 200 etc. 2). Expose for your shadows (here probably take a spot reading in shadow and then adjust accordingly)

Vastly expired film is tougher, but you may be right. That's why I use stand development, as this can solve part of the issue, though not quite for this film.
