How does anchoring work?
Anchoring is a classic and powerful technique in NLP. Bandler and Grinder discovered it as they modeled therapists who were able to put their clients into whatever state they wanted. It looked like magic until Bandler and Grinder were able to figure it out and replicated the results.
Website: www.lifemasterygym.com/?...
In this video you will notice Natasha going into a resourceful state of balance and openness to opportunity, a positive state she has chosen.
I use sensory acuity to calibrate her going into the state. Once I can see that she is there I set the anchor.
I anchor her three times by touching her wrist and saying "That's right". I set both a kinesthetic anchor and an auditory anchor.
After three times I test the anchor by touching her wrist. Her eyes open wider and she smiles. Clearly the anchor worked and she went back into the state.
When I test the auditory anchor though she feels it but not a strong as the kinesthetic anchor.
I try out a visual anchor by pointing to her wrist and even though i haven't set a visual anchor she still goes into the state.
Anchors work by attaching an external sensation with an internal state. If you think of a boat anchored at sea it's a great metaphor for how this works. An anchor is a way to fire and hold a state amongst competing stimuli.
This is great for putting a coaching client in a good state before coaching. It's also great for inner game and using on yourself when you want to create resourceful states and bring them into certain contexts at will such as giving a presentation or a sales appointment.
There's a lot more you can do with anchors which I will describe in future blogs and demonstrate in future videos.

I've found anchoring to be a fantastic way to organize a memory palace if you've constructed one; especially if you can use mental anchors alongside your kineisthetic anchors.

I don't think mine compares much to anyone who's had formal training constructing one, but the concept seemed simple enough to me. I wanted to try a "prototype" and used the Mansion from the early Resident Evil games since I spent so much time in it as a kid. I knew it well enough to memorize a floorplan anyways. Turns out, it felt comfortable enough that I just built on that and started labeling rooms by topic; some of which I've anchored to audio triggers to recall information faster when a particular subject comes up. I've found it much easier to anchor said topics/rooms when it's a subject you like/or are passionate about; some of the psychology techno-babble can be recalled, but it's often quite dry. As far as kineisthetic triggers go, I've found anchoring marksmanship fundamentals to the pad of your trigger finger helps you lock into a rhythm much easier. I'm surprised, I didn't think anyone would be interested lol

Hey there, very informative video. Would you say that anchoring can be an upgraded version of classical conditioning?

It uses the same mechanism but anchoring is intended to create a state in yourself and in others. I don't know that classical conditioning necessarily has the same intention.

@DamonCart
@DamonCart 7 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Here is a video where I use spacial anchors: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/breeabt5sZ2qnmg.html Anchors can occur in all five representational systems. The degree to how strong they are depends more on the intensity of the state than which representational system was used. It also depends on how much the individual favors the representational system. For example a very visual person is likely to be affected more by a visual anchor, but not always. Again it depends on the intensity of the state when the anchor was established.

Hey a question I recently had a nlp class and they taught me this first and they said it takes practice, i want to know how much time does it takes coz i really want this anchoring happen to me And am i right if i say that it will not work if u go too hard on urself Because I’m struggling with my past experiences because i cant remember any state of my life where i was confident (my resourceful state) Also thanks
@DamonCart
@DamonCart 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your question. Anchoring yourself can be difficult because as soon as you get into the state you have to remember to create the anchor, which can snap you out of the state. I find it easiest to grab my wrist lightly and as soon as I'm in the state I want to anchor I squeeze my wrist. This usually makes it easier. Confidence is not a true resource. This is a common mistake NLP students make. Confidence is what comes after you've accessed a resource or resources, you're congruent, you have experience in what it is you'r doing, and you value what it is you're doing. If you've never flown a plane and you anchored confidence to flying a plane, you could get yourself into a lot of trouble. To feel confident about something you've never done before or something you lack required experience to be good at, is not real confidence.

@DamonCart
@DamonCart 7 жыл бұрын
Thank you. It depends on the context and what state you're anchoring and on who. You can anchor someone without telling them anything and without them even knowing it. If I'm teaching it to someone as I'm demonstrating it on them, I like to give a little explanation as I'm doing it and explain the rest after I've done it. Giving them too much information before you do it may dilute the state.

I've been trying setting an anchor when my extremely high energy toddler is calm and playing, so I can bring him back to this state. Haven't learned everything about anchoring yet, and I hope I'm doing it right. When he's calm and playing, which is rare, I gently touch his shoulders and ask him, "You're very calm, right? You're playing?" He answers yes to both. Haven't tried touching his shoulders yet when he's in a hyper state. Going to try soon. Wish me luck.

Forgive me if I sound off color but setting your child up to be mind controlled is probably not the best idea rather than using direct and gentle communication to correct any undesirable behavior. It is so frightening that NLP Techniques are just being handed out without any responsibility. If your child is wild ... use direct communication and or corrections. Massage works best if the child is upset and sometimes they need a “cooling off” space. @lifemasterygym .... be careful what you unleash to a very uneducated audience. We are living in scary times where psychopaths are the norm and acceptable. In my opinion... the Law of the Universe is just. Karma about to do a sweep like we’ve never seen before. You have to put a disclaimer up some where that these techniques should not be used against anyone. You don’t want that “juju” coming back at you. World gone bioweaponed and insane.

Thank you. Anchors can increase over time, decrease over time, or you can quickly desensitize it. If you anchored her using a touch anchor somewhere that she is touched often like the palm of the hand, the anchor will quickly become desensitized. Also when you set an anchor you want to make sure the state is pure and there are no distractions. This isn't always possible if you're anchoring covertly. Make sure you set the anchor just as they're reaching the peak of the state. If you do it right after the peak of the state the anchor will have a tendency to wear off quickly.

@@sophie13.wright10 Anchor other states, either a resource state or a variety of states, to the state. And bad anchoring can happen by accident or design. The defense here is learning to fire it off at will then overwriting it so it does what you want.

if i were to activate/use the anchor as much as possible like once every minute? would it lose effectiveness? what will happen?
@DamonCart
@DamonCart 5 жыл бұрын
Good question. Every minute would probably diminish the anchor and eventually remove it, but that doesn't mean that every time you trigger an anchor that it diminishes the power of it. If it's an anchor you trigger every once in a while rather than repeatedly it can actually intensify the anchor. Doing it repeatedly that quickly though will desensitize the anchor. To reenergize the anchor on yourself think of every time you use it that you want to re-anchor yourself so really go into that state and hold it. If you're using it on someone else, doing it unexpectedly will usually strengthen the anchor.
@jamesross4319
@jamesross4319 4 жыл бұрын
You're looking for state management. Learn to method act to hold state. Learn to breathe and stand and do everything the right way-for the desired state- until your body accepts the new state. After a few minutes your state should shift and your mind will begin to filter everything from the new state. You will only perceive things that put you further in state.

Question. There are times where I get into an emotional state and make rash decisions to satisfy my reptile brain. Could anchoring be a way to suppress that?
@DamonCart
@DamonCart 7 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your question. Yes, you can. A better technique, or process rather, would probably be the Swish Pattern: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q9NpgsyBxrHZoX0.html Your language gives me clues to how you think about this issue and I recommend that you become more aware of how you think about this. True there is a part of our brain we can refer to as the reptilian brain, the part of our brain that is instinctual and doesn't think but reacts usually out of self-preservation. However, you're giving what sounds like a bad habit more meaning, reasoning, and a backstory that it doesn't deserve. When you do this it makes it that much harder to overcome. You are the master of your mind and master over all of the parts of your brain including the reptilian brain. Also you used the word suppress as in you want to use a process to suppress the reptilian part of your brain. What happens any time you suppress something? It usually rebels or resists. That's not how you want to go about this. Think in terms of integration, reintegration, and becoming whole and aligned.

It would take more than anchoring. The drug is doing the work so you don't have to think about yourself which makes you less self-conscious. When you are in a flow state the effects are similar because you're not conscious of self therefore you're not judging yourself or comparing yourself to others. This takes a lot of internal work. Too much to go into here. I cover this in my online training Transforming Your Self.

I think cognitive behavioural therapy would probably be more useful to you than NLP in this instance. You have to examine the thought processes that are leading you to feel anxious or unconfident, and try out new ways of thinking and behaving until those new ways of thinking and behaving become automatic. I recommend the book "CBT for Dummies", it's a great overview of the whole area.

You can anchor any part of the body. You can anchor only using sound or a visual as well or a combination of two or three senses. You just done't want to anchor using a stimulus that the person (or yourself) will encounter too often because it will desensitize the anchor.
@DamonCart
@DamonCart 5 жыл бұрын
If you're looking to use it for seduction, when you're on a date or with a woman (assuming you're a guy and you like women, no insult here, just making that assumption) and you haven't kissed her yet. When you're ready to go for it slide your hand gently across her cheek until your palm is touching her jaw just below her ear and your fingers are in her hair and touching her scalp. Make sure you do this in a slow and nonthreatening way. She will know what you're about to do and her heart will race. Take your time. This lets her know you're confident and sure of yourself and even if she wasn't planning on kissing you, you probably just convinced her. Lean in for the kiss slowly. Your hand touching the back of her head with her hair between your fingers will feel good to her and it will become an anchor because she is in a heightened state. So now any time you touch her like this again she will go back into this very exciting, sexually tense state that will remind her why she likes you. Too often guys don't feel secure and confident so they smash their faces in the woman's face as if they're afraid she might say no and they don't want to give her a chance to pull away. You probably will not return your texts after doing something like that. Women have seen men in romantic comedies kiss women the way I'm suggesting 100s of times. This is one way many women fantasize about being kissed. When you create that fantasy for her, she's yours.
@DamonCart
@DamonCart 3 жыл бұрын

@DamonCart
@DamonCart 6 жыл бұрын
Definitely, but this doesn't sound like a state issue so anchoring probably would not be the solution. It sounds like a self-worth issue. When you're overly focused on outside feedback that makes you feel less than it's often the result of a weak self-concept or weak sense of self. No matter how many affirmations you say it won't change the way you feel because it has to do with how you're unconsciously selecting and categorizing your experiences. What would you like to experience instead of feeling like people are laughing at you? Get very clear about this. Then think about something you're absolutely certain about yourself that you also like about yourself. Take some time exploring how you know that about yourself. What life experiences have you had that let's you know that? This is the structure you need to build up in place of what's missing when you feel like people are laughing at you. Apply that structure to how you want to feel when you hear people laughing.

I went through a very challenging time and started to feel like everyone was against me including (especially) my own family. I have yet to resolve this but I did stop smoking weed and found it helped. I agree about the weak sense of self. Question: Do you have a slight sensation that others can read your mind or "see through you"? This is often connected to childhood trauma or over connecting with parental figures into adulthood. When we are younger parents actually can read you nearly 100%. If this continues as adults it's a boundary issue. You should speak to a professional therapist so they can programe a workable solution with you

NLP Gym I became aware of nlp through these negative experiences. I began to research, then I learned that nlp was a positive, empowering tool that helps people to overcome many obstacles or situations that may hold them back from their greatest potential. Then I began to notice in some of my relationships growing up that these techniques were flipped. For example, I watched this video on anchoring and thought wow people were doing that to me but using it during negative experiences. When my supervisor would attempt to intimidate me, I would obviously look upset and a co- worker observe this would come over and tap my shoulder, while I'm in this state. Or there would be coughing during and agitated state. I took my time and recorded each situation and I discovered a pattern. These people were purposely attempting to keep me in an agitated, negative state. I am working to learn how to overcome this and remove myself from this situation that I am in. Thank you again and I look forward to learning more about nlp.

The people in those situations may have been conscious of what they were doing and they may have been unconsciously doing it. It's important to understand influence and manipulation for this reason. We unconsciously (as well as consciously) influence and manipulate situations and people. We've been doing it since we were children. You cannot not influence. The more conscious you are of it the more deliberate and ecological you can be about it so that you can create situations where you can get what you want without hurting others or taking advantage of them.

This looks uncomfortable and video is misleading. From my perspective, you're doing it wrong and anchor won't work for your student if you don't inform them what are you going to do beforehand. She didn't expect touch on her hand and the situation looks cringe. Always inform the person what's going on and ask permission first to do so then explain where will you anchor, include small relaxation before the start and proceed from there.

Misleading? In what way? When an anchor works, it means you're doing it right. The anchor worked. The point of her not knowing what I was going to do was to eliminate any doubts of whether or not this is real or she's acting. We're anchored all the time without realizing it any time we experience a strong state or feeling combined with at touch, sound, or visual. This is how anchoring works. The cringe you mentioned sounds like your own projection. She and I were dating at the time this video was shot so she was already very comfortable with my touch. Sounds like you've been reading NLP books and maybe taking some trainings, but you haven't been practicing, which is when you really learn NLP.

@@DamonCart What Taurey is saying is that he/she (not to assume gender) is a master of Twitter-linguistic Programming and is suggesting that in order to avoid the appearance or perception that you are sexually assaulting the young lady, you should announce you are going to touch her and wait for permission.

The problem is men tend to project their own emotional state onto women. She didn't appear to be cringing, but in fact comfortable and positive, expressed by her with laughter and her own opinion during the video.

It's simply baffling to me how or perhaps why some people make such ridiculous comments about how she must know NLP because she's wearing a hoodie with NLP Gym on it or she obviously knows what I'm going to do before I do it because of her facial expression, and now it's because she's using NLP jargon. Okay Sherlock when does she use NLP vocabulary that's not also everyday common use vocabulary? Give me the time code on the video. It doesn't count if I used the words first and she's just using the words I used.
