I think I made some of these mistakes in my story, but I tend to write from a single person's point of view (3rd person point of view), though sometimes I could temporarily shift to another person's point of view and then shift back. This could explain why my story doesn't have enough words. Including scenes from other character's point of view could lengthen the word count of the story, but I am afraid that it might ruin the story, like I have to know what to include and what not to include when I am writing in another character's point of view, I don't want to throw in a bunch of ideas for my side character to cause the reader to feel bored reading my story. I certainly don't want to include anything from my antagonist's point of view in most part of my story, this is because I want to create suspense, I don't want the reader to know what the antagonist had done until the end.

There's nothing wrong with finding the treasure quickly, but that also means it's not the main plot/goal of the main character. Instead, it might be the inciting incident, since it leads to conflict.

Or they could be self-grandizing themselves to make themselves stand out amongst their large family whom all seem to be so perfect in whatever it is they're passionate about. They're the only one without a feature that makes them special, so they purchase false glasses to look different. And they carry around a book they've never even read to further look the part. But still no one looks their way. So they decide to take part in this science fair. Go around bragging that they're going to win, even though they don't actually have the smarts to back up these claims.
