DEAD Talks with David Ferrugio engages death a little bit differently. Each new guest shares their experience with grieving or perspective on death in a way that shatters the “don’t talk about death” taboo. Grief doesn't end; it evolves. Having lost his father on September 11th when he was 12, he learned the importance of discussion and sharing other people's stories. DEAD Talks Podcast hopes to make it a little easier to talk about grief, loss, death, mourning, trauma, or whatever it may be. You may cry, but you also may laugh.

@deadtalkspodcast This was one of the best podcasts I've ever listened to. You're so good at asking great questions but you're also really good at actually listening and allowing Barbara's responses to finish answering your questions. I would really really love it if you would have her come back again real soon because an hour just wasn't enough of her & you feed off one another so well!

@@deadtalkspodcast I'm glad to hear that, your podcast has inspired me to keep overcoming grief, to confront my fear of anything related to death & dying. I've experienced sudden unexpected deaths so many times in my 57 years, several of the deaths were just horrific. When I was 8 my dad died in a drunk driver accident, 5 months later my grandpa died from a hunting accident, and 5 months after he died my grandmother died from an aggressive cancer she didn't know she had. Over the years, losing so many people so young, the PTSD wasn't treated so I became very preoccupied with a fear that I was going to die or other loved ones were going to die. I had nightmares almost every night so I developed insomnia and i had panic attacks so severe that I had to stay medicated at a young age. So over the years I continued to lose loved ones and so I felt like it was my fault, like I was manifesting it. I've had to take a lot of therapy to get through all of this. I have come a long way in healing myself using some helpful advice from a therapist who finally figured out how to help me. I practice radical acceptance and forced myself to choose opposite actions to counter act intrusive irrational thoughts. I've been practicing exposure therapy for the last 5 years & it's been a real game changer! It's why I started listening to your podcast and others like it, I'm also a big fan of Hospice Nurse Julie! Exposure therapy started out when i began watching tons of true crime & reading online about the people out there who've been found dead but have gone unidentified, seeing photos of the dead people and reading about their cases was really hard at first, but I find the most helpful thing I ever did was to confront my fears head on and i slowly overcome them by facing death, always based in reality. Thanks for the work you do! You're really good at this!

@@LISALOVEWINS ❤‍🩹 I understand. I'm sorry you have experienced all that. Good for you for seeking until you found solutions - that's commendable. Similar experiences here, but my trauma manifested not in fear of death but a fear of losing loved ones. Unfortunately had another significant loss a few weeks ago, which I witnessed. Even knowing how to deal with it from all the work I've done, it still just sucks and hurts. Blessings to you.

This was a very interesting episode. I was only 9 on 9/11, and hearing how people actually died has really humanized the tragedy for me. It was such a galvanizing moment that I never fully appreciated the full devastation of that day.

My husband is a LEO. A Few years ago, his mother died. She had been living out of town with his single sister, and it was unexpected. His sister came home from being out, thought it odd to see lights on, and found her mother who had been alone and vomiting blood before passing away on way to the bathroom. We arrived the following day, and I did bio cleanup because that was the way I thought I could help. His sister and I aren't close, but my heart broke for what she experienced. My husband was aloof, saying about it just being a body. I was shocked and angry. I said to him that despite his experiences, she hasn't walked in to see a dead body before, especially that of her mother. And that when he goes to a scene, he is usually somewhat mentally prepared for possibility... she was just coming home from dinner with friends... a complete shock. Not to mention what her home looked like! I would cry, thinking about how scary and horrible it must have been for his mom. To be all alone. There was guilt because my hubby had become estranged from his mom and I had been trying to mend fences at the time... and it happened around Mother's day. Ffw a few years, and we have a family trauma surrounding my husband and my son... as a result, it was the proverbial straw that broke the camels back, and my husband had a breakdown. And one day, he looked at me and said, my mom died. It broke my heart to see the look on his face as he cried. And I will never be able to empathize with the jobs first responders have... but I do think it takes a special kind of person to do what they do, and to remain human. They can only handle so much, and people who judge, need to understand that the box they shove these experiences into, are only so big. IMO, every single person should get counseling, just on how to navigate life experiences... we all have some story, and we all have some sort of trauma and I think if it was normal to process these things, we would be happier and healthier...

My Father’s death certificate shows his cause of death listed as medical misadventure. He wasn’t given oxygen during a surgery. It’s that simple. I lost my 39yo Father at age 21. I’m almost 60 now. Still hard to understand how it happened even though we know all the facts. Some things are just hard.

Thank you for this wonderful, open and deep conversation about what the marvellous people do behind the scenes to work for the victims to gain some answer and help with the grieving process. Barbara F-ing Butcher - you are a gem! ✨️ I resonate alot with your curiosity and ability to discuss the aspects of losing your loved one in tragic circumstances, as so many of my friends dont understand how I can talk so openly about some of the most morbid parts of such a hectic experience. Talking has really changed the way I have chosen to process, react and deal with whats happened to me, my family and the other families that lost their loved ones, and I hope with more conversation, people can find some comfort in using this tool when they are ready. Legend ❤

11:10 Bad time to put you’re subscribe to this page ad.. maybe try putting those after such a tragic story rather then cutting off her story to apply a clout chasing 30 seconds to subscribe. This should be for knowledge… not your personal gain to your channel.
