Baby cages were primarily for high rise buildings where outdoor access was not available. These buildings also lacked balconies. It was used by Franklin D. Roosevelt's wife in about 1906-08 and was eventually patented in 1922. It was supposed to offer fresh air during a time of many respiratory problems like tuberculosis (it remained popular for a couple decades).

On the topic of "Moonlight Towers" versus floodlights, the inverse square law that Sam mentioned is based on the fact that the intensity of a light source decreases per unit of distance at a rate of 1/(distance squared) so while floodlights work because they focus a concentrated beam, a Moonlight Tower would not work as it is not focused with any sort of lens and thus its brightness dissipates exponentially rather quickly, rendering it useless at most meaningful distances.

Fun Fact- the U.S. military (and maybe others) has had guns that shoot around corners for around 10 years now. The barrel is on a swivel with a camera mounted to the front that relays a visual signal to a heads-up display. From what I understand they're more used to just look around corners and less about firing because the kickback is gnarly.

A young Eleanor Roosevelt built a baby cage for her kid and the neighbors threatened to call child protection due to all the screaming. Doctor told her kids screaming a lot is healthy. The cages got real popular in 1930's London. Fresh air and sunlight was thought to stop tuberculosis.

The US military has guns that can shoot around corners. I don't think they're in the field yet. Instead of bending the barrel, you hit a switch and barrel swings to one side or the other while the trigger would stay behind the wall.

It's really only used in hostage situations and other very specific operations. And while it was funded by American investors it was invented and developed by a Lieutenant in the Israeli Defense Force.

The horse train thing could have had a gearbox that could help the horses pick up speed and allow you to pull much more weight without forcing the horses to have to stop said weight.
