Flooring, insulation, straps & steel posts

This episode covers a large number of jobs in one video, mainly because they all happened within a very short space of time, and the jobs were interspersed with one another, rather than happening sequentially as would normally happen.
We finally took delivery of the steel posts and got them installed and welded on site, we attached the roof straps for the rafters and the ceiling joists and we installed the flooring, as well as the insulation.
A lot was done in just a few days, but it now means we're able to get the plasterboard on.

Just wondering why you didn't use the bolt holes in the plates top and bottom of your posts? which would have been much safer than welding in that environment. Also, do these walls achieve the required U value? there doesn't appear to be any provision for overlaying PIR on the inside of the studs.

If vertical flue , is been changed to horizontal it needs to accessible to access flue elbow It can not be boxed in ! Kind regards

No worries mate - that flue is in a cupboard below and is fully accessible. It now goes straight out through the wall below the floor (the boiler itself was moved down!)

Nice video! What is the purpose of the multi foil? Could you use 30mm pir board instead?

It really depends what has been spec'd by the Structural Engineer...! But yes, they are effectively the same thing

Great job. I was thinking of having a loft conversion but only have 2.4m of space in my loft which is minimum. What's the thinnest floor and roof I can get away with? Thanks.

Hmmm that might be quite tight...depending on what your structural engineer specifies, you could have perhaps 180mm floor joists, which need to sit at least 50mm off your existing joists, so that they don't touch. Then you need another 200mm ceiling joists so you can have enough PIR in between, plus plasterboard & skim. After carpets and floorboards, you've probably got less than 2m in the room...the issue is having sufficient Insulation, and an airgap to stop your roof from rotting. After that, you have whatever space is left in the room
