Welcome back for another Game of Thrones and A Song of Ice and Fire update video. In this video, I will be talking about George R.R. Martin's recent interview. During this new interview, George R.R. Martin revealed he no longer wants his ASOIAF book fans asking him about the Winds of Winter release date. As you all know, George R.R. Martin has been writing the Winds of Winter for over 12 years. He hasn't released an ASOIAF book since 2011, when A Dance with Dragons was published. Since then, he has given us dozens of updates regarding his progress on TWOW. At this point, we may never find out when George R.R. Martin is releasing the Winds of Winter, because it always appears as if he will never finish writing it. He said he was 75% of the way done, but now I'm not so sure I believe him. Thankfully HBO is still producing shows set in his ASOIAF universe, otherwise we may never visit there again. Let me know what you think about his new interview down below. Thanks for watching! I appreciate your support.

I believe he's only really half way through his story in his mind. I'd feel better if it was dream of spring we were currently waiting for as the wait would kind of be worth it. I got to be honest I think winds of winter will be released and that will be his last book. Like the TV show it could be passed over to someone he thinks he can trust to bring the story to a close. Will book fans accept that? We get the story finished but not by grrm himself (but mostly) I think thats the real bitter/sweet ending

@@stuarth6153 I think the TV show was a test for at least some major aspects of how he wanted the story to end and when he saw the backlash he went back to the drawing board. I agree though that we will see WoW but will not get Dream unless someone else writes it.

I think George is under an immense amount of pressure to come up with the perfect ending to an amazing saga. I think he would be wise to take on a partner to work with and bounce ideas off. He could do the actual writing, but having someone to help shape an outline for the ending may be just what he needs. If they had regular meeting times, and concrete goals and deadlines for specific areas of the story, this may be the way to go.

If this happens, it would have to be someone who never watched the show. That way, if there are things that George still wanted to do which happened in season 8, he couldn't be talked out of it and would be able to still write what he wanted, but a thousand times better with more context and buildup than season 8.

I think he should quietly get a co-author and let them help him complete WoW. He has too much going right now and it seems like tv adaptations are what he wants to give all of his energy to. That's all well and good, but the amount of time it has already taken him to get this far is quite mind-boggling. I am surprised his editor and publishing company aren't pressuring him.

So, if I understood his words, he has said in this most recent interview that wow is 75% complete…which is what he said a year ago! I think that one of his problems is that he keeps on re writing previously finished chapters, over and over again. This obsession with writing the perfect novel is of course what makes game of thrones so good, however the writer is now taking this to such an extreme that he is effectively making it impossible to ever finish this series. Honestly, I think we can give up hope of him ever finishing the series, unless GRRM accepts the help of additional writer/editors to help him cross the finish line.

I started writing in 2016. I hammered out close to 3000 words a day. I was within two or three chapters of finishing with my book, when I got accepted by a publisher. Associates who were reading daily were chomping at the bit for the next chapters. It. Shut. Me. Down. No, I am no George RR, Martin, and certainly nowhere near as prolific, I tend to think that continued pressure scares off your muse. He is old, he is morbidly obese, we will never see the end. I think it's worse than that. I know for a fact people still care because you don't get multiple channels with well over 100k subs each making videos about every update if it wasn't relevant. But nobody is 'asking' and expecting a response anymore, they're just chanting "where's the book GEORGE" every single time he makes a statement or is doing anything that isn't directly related to the book. I don't think he's afraid of being irrelevant, quite the opposite, i think the pressure from the fans has grown to the point he knows that any minor 'mistake' he makes in the book is going to make the entire fan base angry that he took 12+ years to write something that wasn't perfect. He's never been someone who does his best work under pressure, but the pressure only gets worse every time he tries to give an update. There's never going to be a time he feels irrelevant, and at this point, at his age, I think he wishes that he could be irrelevant again

Somehow I think that if he releases Winds of winter, whenever that may be, A dream of Spring will not be as far behind. Winds is probably so hard to solve, he has to move every character in the right direction to the finish line. But by the end every plot line and character will have to be where it needs to be for the big finish, and probably the estructure for the final book of the series will be clearer. I choose to be hopeful 😂

I think it will definitely be similar. I'm positive they incorporated fAegon's character into Jon Snow in the last season of the show. So things like Dany going completely mad might be caused by fAegon in the book when she realises he's alive and he's trying to claim the iron throne too.

See, I agree, but that shouldn’t hold him back for one reason: he actually gave the ending set-up. Bran becoming king? Bloodraven is established as a way bigger schemer in the books, possibly influencing people since the doom of Valaryia, so it make more sense than “he has a good story” Dany going mad? She does a lot of morally questionable things in the book, setting her up as teetering on the moral edge(plus, George would be able to properly present her madness) Arya killing the Night King? Won’t happen. It just won’t, as that was clearly DND getting shock value. Also there is no Night King equivalent in the books, so the conflict will probably be resolved differently. The book’s ending(in about 200 years) will have all the necessary pieces to have the ending make sense logically and be satisfying narratively. It will also be better written.
@rpgadventurer32
@rpgadventurer32 6 ай бұрын
Bran becoming king makes no sense whatsoever because of Bran's own character!! He's not like Bloodraven and that character never aspired to be a King in the first place. Tyrion perhaps or Jon Snow would make the most sense if indeed Jon is the son of Rhaegar Targaryen. There are so many things that happened on the show that make no sense with GRRM's happenings in the books. Daenerys is not even in Westeros yet in the books and there are no signs of her going mad at all. For that to be the case it would need more than one book to build it up. There are also magical aspects to her character and that prophecy which were never properly explored on the show.

@@rpgadventurer32 There is a very good theory that Blood raven and the three eyed crow are not the same entity, and that Bran is being tricked. I also don't agree that Bran becoming king doesn't make sense. His was the first POV chapter in the books, and a lot can happen between now and the end to set this up more. If George writes it, it's going to be written properly, with proper buildup and reasoning.

A Dream of Spring will not be as complex and important to the story as Winds of Winter. It will most likely serve as one big ending to all the characters in the series. Therefore I believe that he will be able to write it faster than the current book. He will be focusing mostly on wrapping up the story as a whole then maneuvering through complex story and character arcs in the next book after Winds of Winter. It took 17 years for JRR Tolkien to write the whole of Lord of the Rings and that isn’t even half as complex as A Song of Ice and Fire. George RR Martin has given every indication that he intends to finish the series and just like other fantasy writers before him I believe that he has the ability to make it happen.

We all know Goerge struggles with severe writers block. I understand everyone is worried he'll never finish it but even if he doesn't, chances are his extended family will be urged to hire a ghostwriter to complete it for him which wouldn't be a bad idea right now as this person wouldn't feel so burnt out with the series. When winter comes, the garden and all of it's plants die save for a few perennials. The logical conclusion to the themes of his story is that the White Walkers sweep down and kill damn near everybody. Humanity had it's place, but they complacently indulged in internal feuding and now their time is up. No second chances, no last-minute heroics, no prophecies, they failed and now they die. Nearly all of the characters stories are cut short, half-finished and deprived of meaning. As I understood it, the Red Wedding was originally intended as a foretaste of what was to come. But I think Martin became a victim of his own stories. Culling time has come, and he's reluctant to hold the knife.

When Martin began ASOIAF, he was in the middle of writing another, unrelated, story. ASOIAF started as a passion for him, a neat idea of a project. Now, it's become a labor. I can't help but think if all of us, and our demands as fans might be playing a part in slowing down, or hindering the artist psyche that started this great piece of work that he began as a passionate art project. Maybe not rush the man, and he might find the passion without being distracted by the stress.

I think we will definitely see the book. It will definitely come out. Posthumously! I think someone will take all of his notes, clean it up and publish it after his death. Whenever that occurs. Will we ever see the end of the series? Probably only if another author finishes it.

Im a big fan of the manga series Berserk, the author Kentaro Miura tragically passed away in 2021 he was 54 from a surprise health issue. He never finished the story. Kentaro Miura was pretty slow with chapter releases due to him both writting the series and doing the art (If you see the quality of the art you can kind of understand why it was slow) as well as slow periods when he transitioned to digital art from pen/paper learning how to use it. George is 75 and overweight I seriously dont see him finishing the A song of ice and fire books, this is just my perspective but I feel the fame the TV shows brought him has side tracked him from the novels way to much.

He must’ve written himself into so many corners it’s like he’s in a kaleidoscope! There are so many twists & turns & so many characters, I’ll bet he’s rewritten it over many times & just can’t reach a satisfying ending. Whew! What a conundrum! Maybe he should just release several versions… I’d sure read them all!

I feel bad for him. I mean fans were so outraged with the outcome of the show that I’m sure the main parts of were in his planned direction. But with the show cutting out so much of the books and altering aspects of it I think it just wasn’t possible for the show to do his plans Justice. Now he’s trying to figure out how best to please the fans with the books and having to drastically change the story from what he imagined. I really hope he gets to finish the books because they really are fantastic and I think would be up there for greatest series ever written. The detail and descriptions he has in the books is unlike anything else I’ve ever read. You really visualize everything from his writing so well.

I think the story in his head continues to grow..the work that the tv show and fame has caused is way more work and demand on his time than he would have ever imagined..he's up in years. I used to be mad at dan n dave how they moved on with out him and S8 of course but maybe they saw he could not put out the material and work as fast as the industry n fans demand...maybe they had little choice to move on but still wish they wouldnt have rushed things and have gave us 12 -13 seasons...idk..i hope he at least has passed on his thoughts and notes to someone he trusts incase something would happen to him so the best story ever will live on and fulfill us all. Right now i just want to have a series every year to watch from this world. HOD, Dunk n Egg, snow..etc...after all it is the greatest story ever put to paper amd film..i dont see it ever being topped...and when we least expect it the book will come..i hope

Sometimes that is scary, sometimes you don't see the full picture and then you have to redo some parts later on. I have the luxury of not having published any part of the story I'm working on, so I can always go back and do changes but he can't and to top it off it seems we both don't really like the work of writing all these things actually down :D I just don't like the feeling if I force myself to write X pages a day like Steven King does e.g.

@@jenniferpearce1052 Of course a life is worth more than a book, but saying that you're worried he could die before being done with the series isn't presenting a choice between a life or a book. He'll die at some point, just like everyone else, unless humanity finds a way to make ourselves immortal in the next few decades. Hoping that he finishes the series before that happens isn't saying that his book is more important than his life, it's stating that not finishing his book would be a consequence of not being alive anymore.
