Anyone notice the grip Iain had when doing the side laterals on the cable cross?? I switched to that grip and felt a massive difference on where it hit the shoulders. Just take the thumb out of the grip and you will see

Wondering if you could do a video on how you program your mesocycles and blocks of training. How do you determine progression in your lifts? Do you add weight, reps, sets. Do you employ pyramid style training? Do you work up to 1 working set and a drop off?

Given that you're training some pushing muscles (chest, shoulders, tris) 3 times in one split rotation - are these ever still sore going into the next workout? For example upper chest / delt area sore going into chest and biceps?

If you build up to a working set and throw in an intensifier, how to you determine progression factors from one week to the next? By building up to your working set, how do you manage fatigue, ensure you are stimulating the fast twitch and slow twitch muscle fibers? Do you keep the same movements over a block, or do you go into the gym and use different movements that target the same muscle groups.

I’m not really sure I understand your question lol? Gauging progress is very easy as that’s what we use the top set for. Managing fatigue is also very easy as we’re also only doing 2 working sets per exercise and the build up sets are VERY sub maximal, and always in a fairly low rep range (3-10 reps at most). So literally no energy is lost at all during build up sets. We keep the same number of similar type movements in for a block yes. So say 2 pressing movements, 2 laterals, 1 rear delt fly

So you're doing two working sets, but how many do you do in order to warm-up for those, and how many reps?

Warm up sets can range anywhere from 1-5+ sets, in rep ranges generally of 3-8 (8 being less common and higher end for sure). The amount of warm up sets depends most on the load needed for the exercise and risk factors. So like a dumbbell bicep curl only needing 40lbs might only be 1-2 warm up sets. Whereas a 12 plate hack squat might be up to 6-8 sets working up to that. Also generally the higher in weight and closer to my max set is then the reps will decrease as well, so like the 10 plate hack warmup might only be 1-2 reps, before moving up to 12 plates. The biggest thing to remember with warmup sets is they’re very sub maximal and not taking any real energy away from the top set.

Hey Iain, Are you not fatigued from all that pressing for your chest session Which ist just 2days after shoulders? Feels like I wouldn’t be ready for that and my performance would be real bad in terms of strength.
