Overcoming Symptom Obsession

In this video, Shaan delves into the topic of overcoming the obsession with physical symptoms often dismissed by doctors, leading to anxiety, panic attacks, and intrusive thoughts. He introduces the 5F principle, focusing on the 'focus' aspect, to help viewers understand why they're hyper-focused on symptoms and how to shift their attention. Shaan emphasizes understanding the underlying issue-nervous system sensitization-rather than fixating on individual symptoms.
He provides practical advice on refocusing attention away from symptoms, using the ALARM method, and highlights the importance of continuing daily activities to aid recovery. Shaan also addresses the subjective nature of reality and how focusing on symptoms can intensify them, advocating for a holistic approach to recovery that includes going back to living a normal life, which ultimately diminishes the focus on anxiety and its symptoms.

You came into my life when I almost gave up on anxiety, I was suffering from last 1 year and it was so confusing and I lost my one year figuring out what was happening to me . And now I'm in a guidence of my physician and taking meds which are very low dose ( Bejoy and betacap tr40 ) But I'm following your mechanism and I can see changes . Oh my god I started to live my life again. I still have a long journey ahead of me but I know for sure, I'm going to heal/recover sooner then I have imagined.

Wow I cannot believe how much I needed this exact video. I KNOW I’m focused on it and I’ve been trying to stop. I also KNOW I’m making my symptoms bigger by focusing on them. But hearing you put into words everything you just said and break down ALARM. I sooo needed this! Now I need to listen to it several more times so everything you said will sink in and I’ll begin to break the cycle of ‘F’s’ that I’m in. I’ve listened to so many people as I’ve been focusing on my issues and no one put it into words the way you did taking away my excuses because I felt like you actually ‘get it.’ THANK YOU! Now I’m going back to listen again and apply ❤

Thank you Shaan, i appreciate all your videos despite i am not part of your mentourship i learn alot from it and i do really believe in this. Remember when we focus on our symptoms we keeps on feeding them but if we let it be and feel that uncomfortable feeling it goes away. Our body does not only meant to feel good and happy and we javeto teach our body that life is limea roller coaster and we need to teach & train our mind n body to go through all that. Anxiety is just an emotional stress, just that nothing more nothing less. All we need to do is show gratitude towards the symptoms knowing that it won't do any harm to you. Once our body knows how to respond correctly and positively and some symptoms doesn't need responding at all and by no chance we are back to living💯

Okay been doing this and its been helping but I have a question. What if its a sypmtom of anxiety that makes you do a bad habit. For me now I get dry mouth/lips and I lick my lips to wet them. I already been to a doctor for my yearly check up and blood work so I am good there. Basically when the symptom of dry mouth comes i drink water if I feel like i need to and I lick /bite my lower to stop that dryness feeling when it gets too much? Will this habit stop cause I know its anxiety but I react by bite/lick my lower lip.

I am being obsessed about a certain topic, but not about the symptoms I have. In fact I think my constant obsession and excitement about that certain topic (for 2 months I even dreamed and never stopped thinking about that every nights while it made me excited all the time) was the one that sensitized my nervous system to the point I had my first panic-attack near-death experience. After that I avoided to think about that topic anymore. And I started to focus on realizing my anxiety. Now that I am on the way of curing my own anxiety, I am at the point where I need to face my fears first which is thinking about that certain topic that makes me fearful and excited at the same time. Since that topic (and my attitude and excitement it gets out from me) was the one led me to have my near-death experience by exhausting my whole nervous system and my body. Thinking or even approaching that topic in my mind is the main trigger for my anxiety. But I have a question. If the key for curing my anxiety is to face my fears and face with that certain topic again I would turn my fear into excitement, again. But... it would pressure my nervous-system again. Basically currently I am fearing of pressuring my nervous-system by excitement, but with a strong reason, right?
@KincsoSchneider
@KincsoSchneider 2 ай бұрын
Update: I realized the feeling of excitement itself isn't dangerous at all, that wasn't the main cause. (But that I lived my everyday life based on a lot of fear rooted in my childhood emotional neglection. I didn't even realize them because I hid it from myself I had negative feelings at all) There was a reason against which I had my obsession as a coping mechanism. The problem was not my excitement, not that topic but my own exaggerated behavior (towards anything) which didn't allow me to face my fears and cure them.

If u get worry about it then it will make u worse. Just stop worrying first and make ur mind feel that u are not getting irritate by it. Thats how it works, mind likes repetitions and if u are focusing on the symptoms then mind will make u feel anxious. Just break the focus and focus something else
