Very comprehensive UVB info! A lot of stuff I didn't know. I feel like a lot of people say to just slap a UVB light in the enclosures and you'll be fine. I don't have a chameleon(yet👀), but I'm definitely going to check my bearded dragon's uvb setup. Thank you!

Thank you for the information. You did mention that there are ways to modify the cage enclosure. I am looking into caged enclosure. During the summer humidity spikes high, but during the winter humidity is non-existence. I need a make shift enclosure depending on the humidity situation. Can you do a video or shorts on this topic?

I live in the madeira island, north of the canary islands, amd im thinking get a panther chameleon, but im not sure how similar my environment temp and humidity are to the natural place of this animal, i think a good strategy would be buy first some measuring devices maybe a cage and simulate having the animal wiouth actually having it, to see if if a screened of glass cage fits better my situation, what do you think about my idea?

Do you have any recommendations when it comes to setting up mechanical timers to run each of the cycles. The misters and fogger have pretty complex cycles according to this care sheet, and in an effort to keep from creating a fire hazard I want to simplify this as much as possible. Thank you!

I get what you are saying about fire hazards. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to figure out how to recreate the effect with mechanical timers. I can get the fogger to work on a mechanical timer, but the mister requires a On/Off minimum setting of two to three minutes and I haven’t found that in a mechanical timer. I don’t want to go more or I am starting to flood the system. So, I haven’t found the right mechanical timer to allow that yet.

Hey Bill, I have a question about something I read in a fb group. Anyway the post I saw said that d3 is unnecessary if you provide proper UVB. Is this true? I do have a solar meter 6.5r, I use t5 ho fixtures with reptisun as you suggest in your care guide for panther chameleons. I cannot keep outdoors all year. From what I've always read is that you should give multivitamin twice a month and that is what I have been doing. I use repashy lod twice a month and plain calcium. I have a double xl reptibreeze enclosure that I am in the process of converting to a hybrid bioactive per your recommendations. Thanks for your help as always ❤

It is true that you do not need dietary D3 if you have sufficient UVB. We in the community have proven that UVI 3 at the basking branch will provide all the D3 a panther needs. We give a multivitamin twice a month to cover the preformed vitamin A. The D3 that goes along with that is of no danger to the chameleon.

With the hybrid setups, should you setup a small fan to help circulate the enclosure to prevent stagnant air?

The need for a fan depends on your ambient conditions. In a room with low ambient humidity no fan will be necessary. High ambient humidity means a fan is more appropriate. The actual air flow from chimney effect works, but how quickly that air exchange is able to evaporate the moisture depends on the ambient humidity.

Hello, I really love your work, it is the most complete and accurate one I could find. I have I small question if that is OK. You recommend not to use IR lamps at night, Would it be possible to use a ceramic heat "lamp"? Or what would be another appropriate way to heat them at night if necessary? You could use a ceramic heat emitter at night, but make sure it is truly necessary. As long as they can warm up during the day it can easily go into the low 60s F. If it is going into the 50sF they can still handle it, though if this were a regular thing I would then start to think about a heat source that would nudge the temperatures into the low 60s.

I've found people that say that it is best to keep it simple with paper towels or news paper, whilst other go for a more bioactive setup with abg or another substrate with micro fauna, others use Bark. I'd really like to know the opinion of an expert like you. Thankyou very much once again 😊

@@manuelcasal3669 the idea beginner setup is a bare floor with a drainage tray underneath the cage. Easy to clean up and keeps the excess water away from the poop and escaped feeder insects.

I live in Texas but keep my room pretty cool, like 72 f. The humidity says 40-55% usually. Screen ok?

Generally speaking, we use a heat lamp and a UVB light. But every situation may have variations. Chameleons need both UVB and to warm up in the morning.

@@diego.hurtado10 we generally like to use light emitting heat bulbs to replicate the sun. I haven’t tried a ceramic heater, but I suspect they would be able to find the heat source. Why would you use a ceramic heater?

What are the dimensions of the wire rack you use to put your cage on. I know it is good for little guys to not put the light directly on the cage. I am having a hard time finding something deep enough, do you have any link to the rack you use?

I live in southern california and without any light a glass enclosure will hit around 86 Farenhiet in the hottest summer part. How could I counter this to have a chameleon (or any reptile for that matter)? I would think there would be a difference in temps from a screen enclosure, but i don't know if it would be enough. Any tips?

It depends on your ambient conditions. If a cage will reach 86 then there is heat coming from somewhere. Glass only insulates. It does not create heat. What temperature are you keeping your house at?

Why does it say on the back of the repashy calcium plus and lod bottle to add on every feeding?

Because that is the recommendation Repashy has for the general use of his supplementation. Considering the immense diversity of reptiles and amphibians I think we are well within our right to tweak the instructions to match what our specific genus and species need. It is reasonable to assume that the dietary requirements of a diurnal, arboreal chameleon could be different from a crepuscular, terrestrial leopard gecko or a nocturnal leaf-tailed gecko. That said, using Repashy Calcium Plus for every feeding has been firmly established as a successful supplementation schedule for panther chameleons. The reason why this care summary uses Calcium Plus /LoD twice a month instead of every feeding is that I am wanting to use the natural process of getting vitamin D3 from UVB. Thus I use the Repashy Calcium Plus /LoD for the occasional shot of preformed vitamin A. Supplements are a tool like everything else and they must be used in conjunction with the other husbandry aspects you employ.

Any tips to get that temperature drop? Where I live the temperture at night remains at 77F inside (60% humidity). I live in a very humid and hot place (swamps around). Could the fogging creat the temperature drop or maybe a fan? Could you please give any tips? Thanks for your amazing videos!

The only way to do it is an air conditioner. I have a similar problem during the summer with my Jacksons Chameleons and the only way to really do it is a room that has an AC unit so the room goes lower than the rest of the house. Using a swamp cooler or such just doesn’t do the job. Luckily, panther chameleons don’t need it as low as Jacksons!

Will try with a portable "AC" the ones you have to put ice on them. I'm really concerned that 77 wont let my little dude sleep good when he arrives. Thanks Bill!

It could. Chameleons sleep much better in darkness. You can always put a towel over the cage if you need to.

One correction. Arcadia single bulb T5 does not include UVB bulb. The UVB 6 percent is an additional purpose but well worth getting a high quality reflective hood

The Arcadia ProT5 6% is the bulb/fixture bundled product. So if it has a "ProT5" in the name it is a bulb and fixture.

Ich finde das mit Deinem Nebler, den Du die Nacht über in den Terras laufen hast auch absolut super, denn so bekommt man auch die hohe Luftfeuchtigkeit hin, die die Tiere brauchen. Aber hier in Deutschland sagen alle das der Nebler für die Lungen der Tiere schädlich ist, und das die Tiere davon krank werden. Vielleicht kannst du mir ja weiterhelfen. Hello! I hope I can respond in English! Fogging is a controversial technique with people passionate on both sides of whether it is the ultimate hydration method or whether it is a quick step to killing your chameleon. I look at foggers as tools. You accept a certain care guide and then you use whatever tools you need to get the conditions necessary. If I live in an area that has very high humidity nights then I wouldn’t use a fogger. If I live in an area with low humidity nights then I will definitely use a fogger. It is much better than a mister as it uses less water and does a better job. So, in my mind, whether you should use one or not depends on whether you need higher humidity or not. As for whether foggers themselves are dangerous, I have used them for years without a problem that I can trace back to a fogger. But that doesn’t mean other people have not had a different experience. So, for you, I would evaluate the different ideas out there, figure out which ones fit your situation the best, and then try it out without taking any sides in this very chaotic social media world!

Hatte vor ein paar Jahren schon einmal welche gehabt.Ich musste damals aus beruflichen Gründen mit dem schönen Hobby aufhören. Jetzt möchte ich wieder Panther pflegen und deshalb möchte ich mein Wissen ein bisschen erweitern. Ich brauche deshalb nachts auch eine sehr hohe Luftfeuchtigkeit, und das schafft man mit einem Nebler eben am besten. Ich habe damals schon einen Nebler bei meinen Tieren gehabt. Aber habe dann von anderen Leuten immer wieder nur schlechtes gehört,und habe ihn deshalb dann auch nicht mehr benutzt. Was für einen Nebler und von welcher Firma benutzt Du denn?Ich freue mich jedesmal auf ein neues Video von Dir. Mach weiter so. Bei Euch in Amerika gibt es einfach viel schönere Panther Chamäleons als bei uns in Deutschland. what info can you offer on reasons that a chameleon digs in the soil

I'll assume this is not a gravid female we are talking about. Chameleons often walk around the bottom of the cage when they are pacing and trying to get out. At times they will eat the soil because of (presumably) missing minerals in their diet. But deliberate digging for any reason except to lay eggs is an uncommon behavior. This situation would take some detailed study to figure out what is going on.

Minimum cage size is the first thing and you are already trying to change that! So I will ask why you think a 24”x24”x24” will work when the minimum recommended is 24x24x48. I watch your videos and read your advices with great interest and pleasure, thank you very much! I am worried that my cameleon is not yet a grown up, he is just 10 months old and weights 150 gr. I though that he would need to be fed everyday. Would starving and eating every second day be beneficial for my 10 months youngster?

@@algisable at ten months he is right at the point where you can consider going to the adult diet. But that depends on whether he has reached full adult size. But, regardless of size or age, holding back food from him for a couple days will not be dangerous. If he is being picky then he either is full or else has a reason why he does not like a certain food item. (For example, some chameleons will refuse to eat superworms if they were bitten by one.) A very good reason to do this at this point is that it is not healthy to have a diet only of superworms. 150grams is a respectable size. If he is that size because of fat then there is definitely a health issue. If the reflection is good enough then they can react to it as if it were another chameleon.

The main claim I see people make against glass cages is that the chameleon will see its own reflection and treat it as a potential threat. Is this not accurate?

Although possible and sometimes happens there are ways to mitigate the problem. It usually is not a big deal for the chameleon to settle in knowing that the ghost chameleon will never invade his bush. But these are things that are necessary to deal with if you have glass. And the only reason to use glass is if you need to have solid sides. And in that case you can’t just substitute screen in its place.

Watching this from Germany, as a European I would suggest you consider adding the dimensions in metric as well. It would save a lot of calculator activity throughout the world.
