Back in 2013 the seemingly innocuous Food Network star Paula Deen got “cancelled” under some pretty interesting circumstances. Today I take a look back at this situation and how it affected her career in the long run.

During her apology tour, I am always amused when people "cry" yet don't have a single tear come out of their eyes. She was only sorry because she thought she was going to lose her business. As a southerner, I was called spic by my pop pop because my mom lived in the USVI for a long time. Doesn’t mean he had no honor or wasn’t good to the community, heck, the state of Pennsylvania acknowledged his good deeds and awarded him a holiday in October. (Been a while since I helped grandma move and found some old stuff). A WWII vet who raised a family with 8 kids. I’m not going to discount his entire character for calling me a name when I was a baby. He got me into coin collecting and history among other things. Living in the south now, folks can be racist, but I ain’t seen em. Only racist thing I heard was my best friend who moved to my town from NYC who complained about whites moving into his town. Either way, he’s still a best friend despite that cause I ain’t gonna ditch a friend over that type of shit. *screams get on with it* Oh, Paula really shouldn’t have faced the bullshit she dealt with for one word that was possibly said in the 60’s. Blacks call us crackers while everyone else has got a name for shit. Albeit, it shouldn’t be said since it causes division, but one shouldn’t toss someone under the bus for just an off comment. Unless it is support for genocide, then toss them under 2 busses.

@@ColonizerChan Your grandpa sounds like a cool guy. Lot of old people grew up in a different world, where different words and even actions were acceptable, and were molded by it, in a word. Doesn't mean they cant be good people in the present. Personally, if all Deen did was make some charged jokes, I don't think she deserves the hate. Nobody's perfect. Edit: I also grew up in the south; a lot of my older relatives toss around humor like that. I still love 'em.

thats what depositions are like. like when i was sueing someone because i felt they should be responsible for my medical bills after a traffic accident that was their fault i was repeatedly asked questions about my finances or how my injury effected my daily life. very few questions were about the accident itself. i mean they even brought up my arrest that happened 9 years before that. the oppositions attorney just wants to get everything they can use against you and you are told by your attorney to answer every question honestly but treat it like a boarder crossing. tell them the answer but dont get into it, let them ask to elaborate.

You missed the much larger context of the issues surrounding Paula Deen and racism want her biggest problem: • She and her brother where using the n-word in their *business* where a majority of staff where black. Even if you ignore the racism, there are labor laws against *hostile work environments* • Many of the women in Paula's restaurant, Bubba's, complained that Bubba was sexually harassing them and Paula did nothing to stop it. *The business was full of sexual harassment* • Paula didn't just want black waiters, *she wanted the black staff to mimic an actual slave plantation dinner service* • Paula wanted a black female employee to dress as *Aunt Jemima* • Paula *got her recipes from the black people* she hired and she promised them wealth, but *they never received credit or anything, were paid less, and were afraid to complain* because they were told that Paula would blackball in the industry • Paula *openly sympathized with her slave owning ancestors* but never the people who were enslaved • And there's more... Besides Lisa Jackson going public and suing, she was never the target of the behavior that caused Paula's downfall and Jackson's lawsuit meant nothing as to what was actually occurring inside Paula Deen's business. Jackson is white and was not the target of any racism so of course the court would dismiss that claim. Even while all of that was going on, the black employees were still too afraid to speak about Paula, because they needed a pay check. Paula Deen's black employees were essentially sharecroppers and suffered the same consequences.

Not true, increased weight especially around the middle is strongly positively correlated with diabetes. Sugar has a role, more evidence has been found recently for that, but there is no denying a high fat diet, especially saturated fat like butter, leads to weight gain which often leads to diabetes. Prediabetic states can often be reversed by losing weight.

Some important facts got left out. There were a lot of people who were angry that Deen was hiding the fact that she had been diagnosed with diabetes but was still pushing butter and sugar recipes on her shows. When it was found out she had diabetes a lot of viewers wanted her shows canceled and the ratings on her shows began to go down. The 'n' word controversy happened shortly after the diabetes controversy and that became too much for her sponsors and the Food Network. It had also been speculated that the Food Network already wanted to cancel her shows because of the lower ratings.

Everyone has, why people losing their livelihood over saying a word is dumb. Not one person alive, unless they can't talk, can say they haven't said some fucked up and or racist ass shit. Why PC culture is a cancer. I don't approve true racism and hate, but at the same time everyone has said something they shouldn't have.

Love the Mario Party 4 background music. Also, I remember watching her all the time on food network for the lols before she dropped the N-bomb. I mainly watched her for the lols because I didn't like her food. I tried a few of her recipes but most of them were pretty nasty. The only one I actually liked was her corn bread. It had tons of butter in it.
