Thank you for this! I popped the oil filler cap while the truck was running and the pressure blew the cap out of my hand... Bought (FoMoCo only!) replacement filter... Truck runs better and COOLER (at 50F). Like you said...the old filter weighed 3 times as much... 50k on the truck... Don't ignore this maint issue!

I have a 2011 so of course mine had the bolts, used a different CCV Delete kit because this one wasn’t available at the time, routed my hose through the frame, just behind the cab so I don’t have to smell the smoke. No issues for me at all, just over 250,000 miles on mine. Pretty weird, all of my emissions components just so happened to fall off at the same time thanks to an EGT sensor that shut my truck off with a 1 day old baby in the truck on a 124 degree day here in Arizona. 🤷‍♂️

I've been working on 6.7s since they came out in 2011 and I've never seen one with a filter in it. I've replaced a few due to cracking at seam and leaking, and of course plenty of ccv mod recalls. I've seen the ccv delete done and plumbed into the exhaust to eliminate oil vapor odor. Also there was a venturi type fitting in the exhaust so in theory could pull a slight vacuum on it and be beneficial.

Done this mods on several trucks for me and our family business. Several 6.0 and 7.3 trucks, a couple ram cummins trucks as well. Essentially I've Just extend a heater hose of sorts out around the bottom of the motor somewhere. Never any issues of smell that was a problem and most had no oil dripping up tube. Only had a couple trucks that had that problem and they were the ones with pretty worn-out engines that had bad Blow by. I will definitely be doing this mod or something similar to it on my new 21 F350.

I have a 2018 F-250 I did the CCV delete with SPE's cheese grader. The short hose did have quite a bit of vapor at drive throughs right at the driver window with it dumping at the rear of the driver side radius arm bracket. I got a 20' hose and now it dumps out by the rear hitch where the exhaust blows it away. I have a 5" straight pipe dumped behind the rear axel that helps blow the fumes away. I'm a fan, no other issues so far.

So I did a catch can for my 2006 6.0L F250 and it worked great! I did not get any more oil in the intake track at all. On every oil change I just drain the can out and you got about 8oz of oil out of it was all. now I have an 2020 F450 6.7l and I am looking at this set up. But I am going to run it back to the stock location in the intake. I will be checking to see if oil make it the cooler and intake track. If it still gets there I will also stack it with a good catch can in the middle of the tube and see if that work like my 6.0L did. I will keep you posted.

Great video. I would like your feedback on my current project. I had a filter less CCV box on my 2016. Last December I purchased the Mishimoto kit to introduce the catch can into the mix with the factory filter less ccv box. I had it on and off twice and it leaked due to what I would imagine is a fitment issue. Torqued to specs exactly how Mishimoto recommended, O rings lubbed and seated etc. I wanted to open it up and somehow delete the factory ccv air to oil separator but still use my catch can. My brother and law (mech eng/car guy) and I this Christmas designed a different set up all together. We used the regular old delete kit by AM diesel, than I had some ORB to hose barb fittings made for a 1.25” vacuum hose off the same location as stock pre turbo inlet. I’m awaiting a aeromotive vacuum regulator to be installed on the outlet side of the catch can than on the inlet side I will route the typical ccv delete hose off of the back of the valve cover. We’re confident it will work it will be just a matter of regulating the vacuum and I intend on setting up a gauge as well. This was a pretty costly way of doing things for what it is but I’m excited to have the catch can on and to get rid of the fumes from the standard CCV delete, Also free up space on that side of the valve covers. I hope it works as the Mishimoto catch can is nice but with the kit was over $400 CDN, the aeromotive valve was $165, custom ORB to hose barb fittings for each side of the regulator $300, 1 1/4” vacuum hose was $30, CCV delete kit was $230, vacuum gage $20.... it all adds up so I’m hoping for the best when the vac regulator comes. The real question I have is what would be the desired vacuum pressure? It will obviously change during different levels of boost etc. Any input would be appreciated from the pros.

I have been running the SPE CCV KIT ,with the internal catch can for 60,000 miles no problems so far. Intake staying clean. I extended the hose to run further back under my F350 so I don't smell the oil fumes. Checked the catch can on last service still looking clean no clogging, and no oil drips from the hose.
@keffjames2747
@keffjames2747 3 жыл бұрын
If you do the CCV Reroute just get a long enough hose and run it down the firewall and into the frame and go all the way to the hitch and there is a hole on the hitch plate where it bolts to the frame and stick the 3/4" hose though that hole and let it vent out under the back bumper of the truck. No smell and it's hidden and out of the way.
@Doc.Holiday
@Doc.Holiday Жыл бұрын
I don’t have one of these yet, but going to. I’m 70 years old and most of the early trucks in my life had CCV tubes directly from the valve cover cap directly to the ground. Some had a foam pad that caught and returned oil. There wasn’t enough oil that made it to the hose that it collected on the frame or smelled bad. I would think this cheese grater configuration would come close to eliminating oil into the tube and return oil to where it should be.
@10Gauge
@10Gauge Жыл бұрын
Better yet buy a Venturi valve for your exhaust and weld that on and route house to that. This gives two benefits, no more smell and you retain the factory vacuum pull of gasses from the crankcase. Venting to atmosphere eliminates the vacuum and people have seen oil leaks pop up due to the small amount of added pressure in the crank case.
@Doc.Holiday

I decided to not mess with how it’s engineered. There is opinion out there that deleting the CCV box causes an imbalance of Turbo pressure? I decided to just change mine out every 50K and call it a day. 217,000 miles and running strong.
@keffjames2747
@keffjames2747 Жыл бұрын
Do yours like I did mine. Leave your box and route your hose to the back of the truck. It will vent what it needs to. The box is still in place to filter out the oil. Right now you are putting oil into your Water to air Internet cooler and your hot and cold pipes are full of oil. Also all of that nasty oil is going back into your Engines combustion chamber and passing through your rings and dirtying your oil. The kit will only cost you about $40

Outstanding content, as others have said with you and FordTechMakuloco. Also a subscriber to ModernDieselCory who gives great detail on this and other SPE products. 2017 F350 that had the non-serviceable CCV filter and now using cheese grater + reroute (not SPE) = great results (min to no scent and no drips). Disappointed with amount of oil residue at only 30k miles within intake pathway (cold side pipe upgrade) to include upper intake manifold mixing with EGR gases, nasty buildup of soot+ccv oil mist. Keep up the great work and look forward to your opinion with trying these products.

I own a 2012 F250 with a 6.7L Powerstroke. I bought the truck used with 160,000 miles and one of the very first things I did was to reroute the CCV. I used Maryland Performances Zero Drip kit. The quality of the components are excellent however after a few days of driving I began to have oil spotting on my driveway. The Zero Drip was beginning to drip. I did some brainstorming and decided my best course of action was to add a breather tank to the end of the ccv reroute hose. I specifically used Moroso's 85751 Breather Tank due to its large inlet, descent capacity for oil drippings, and large filtered vent. The addition of this tank completely eliminated my oil spotting issue, drastically reduced the amount of CCV vapors seen at idle, as well as decreased the smell from the vapors slightly. All while keeping my CCV system's backpressure at near nothing. I drain the breather tank every oil change and have had zero issues so far after 20,000 miles of driving. In my experience a properly executed CCV reroute is worth the investment. If large enough fittings and plumbing is used, it will keep your crankcase pressure at virtually zero decreasing the likelihood of an oil leak. It also keeps the oil vapor out of you intake, turbo, intake boots, and intercooler. I've seen high mileage intercoolers struggling to perform due to being oil logged from years of CCV vapors. CCV reroutes are definitely an added expense as well as an added maintenance item when used with a breather tank. However, in my opinion they are worth your time, money, and effort.

Same here. Had a boosted mustang. Not a whole lot of oil before the pro charger, after 25k of boost, changed intake to a scj and noticed copious amounts of oil residue all over everything. Ran dual catch cans and reduced the oil/vapor going into the engine dramatically. Funny thing is this was on a 15, and Ford released catch cans on the future models. It’s like they say, the vehicle are built to get you through the warranty period. Best advice is decide how you need or want to use your machinery and tweak it to create preservation. Amsoil everywhere, filter changes religiously,do an engine flush and run a bypass filtration for oil, they work, upgrade to fass, add fuel additive to lubricate, we only have 15ppm of sulfur. In comparison Europe has 300-400ppm and 1% failure on cp pumps. Good air box, and open exhaust will reduce heat stacking up. Coupe grand in mods will make these trucks last forever minus turbos, ain’t a whole you can do with 1500 relentless degrees. Compliment the system, don’t reinvent the wheel. That stand had every emission component on it and made way more power than all the guys throwing blowers on them. Find what makes your engine efficient and do that.

We have had dozens of 19. 450s with only 15k or less miles on them have ccv filters actually braking apart with oil loaded actually dripping. At first just thought simply it was just a one off. However this is a huge issue. There is a recall on these ccv boxes with filter for 650 and 750s now. It should be 250 up. However it will be changed to a non filter setup ccv as you stated in vid. We dont even like them either. Cut top off of the sealed lid it does nothing to help but pour the gas and soot back in. What's up guys I first saw this on 450 cab and chassis trucks with the serviceable removal ccv box lids those are the styles 18, and 19 I have seen. However as Arod knows ford came out with a new ccv assembly no filter type. I actually saw ccv filters braking apart and most likely going into block. Small fibers. Still a huge huge cover up by ford motor company. To actually say the filter does not need changing until 75k or 100k miles can you imagine. I see medium and heavy duty trucks 450 up and at 7500 miles ccv filter garbage. Arod had vid on his bench on one if I can remember. Non the less there are worse items as we all know about. Customers , techs, even ford themselves that cause failure that can break the bank for many 3 small letters CP4 . My duramax doesn't have a filter. It just lets the intake/ turbo eat the oil 😐 most guys cap off the intake and reroute hose to a catch can via heater hose

I’m surprised that thing didn’t have all kinds of oil leaks. 17-19s with that ccv filter we recommend at 50k and any that leak get a new filter. The filters always look like that although I haven’t seen one flake yet. And the engine has crazy leaks besides the upper oil pan leak like they all do we are seeing front or rear main leaks, front cover leaks, left/ right valve cover leaks or both! Leaks that we never saw with the older style ccv on the 14-16s. But man if the ccv changes to the old centrifugal style then ima just start recommending it to customers. As for that hose on the aftermarket delete kit I’d run it to some sort of separator or catch can. When I work on semi trucks some Cummins engines wouldn’t route the ccv to the intake. Instead the ccv filter would dump to atmosphere. And some trucks were just nasty, I wouldn’t do it on a 2021
@jeridadams3121
@jeridadams3121 3 жыл бұрын
That filter was really plugged! In your opinion, can the quality of the oil and proper service intervals help alleviate the plugged CCV issue? Only reason I ask is because I ran a catch can on the 2.7 ecoboost I used to have. In about 5000 miles (or an oil change interval) I had to empty that thing about 3 maybe 4 times with the motorcraft oil. When I switched to a different brand full synthetic (same viscosity) the catch can literally caught almost nothing in between oil changes, maybe a teaspoon of crap would come out. So it made me raise a question of, is the CCV delete really necessary, or was service intervals/the quality of the oil the cause of the CCV having an issue? Love watching your channel!

I’ve had the internal catch can by SPE installed on my truck since the week they announced it for sale. I’ve recently notice oil droplets this winter during warmups and idle which were minimum. You have to be careful if you remove the CCV box as there is some kind of sensor that would throw a CEL in the 15+ IIRC. There used to be a video on it and I *think* it was on your channel. I have a 13 and it can be removed without a CEL but I think in 15 like I said, they put a sensor in to prevent CCV deletes. IIRC the sensor is in that circle thing where the hose attaches to the CCV box or its where the end of the hose attaches to the valve cover...Double check me bro, but yea...

It's 9/26/23 in California, and today I just bought a slightly used 2020 F350 with a 6.7 that only has 15,546 miles. Before I took possession, the state required a SMOG check. It passed with no issue, but the SMOG guy said, "Do not remove the CCV box!" They inspect under the hood, and if it's missing you will not pass SMOG. Is SPE making an additional California legal external catch can to capture the condensed oil vapor? One you can possibly drain from time to time. I can't stand the idea of pumping that crud back into my beautifully running engine!
