I'm pretty sure the whole jumping thing is a phenomenon known the call of the void, or high place phenomenon, and about 50% of people have experienced it. You're absolutely smashing it Anthony, looking forward to continue the series

Thanks Tom. It’s a strange feeling that’s for sure. Thanks for watching 👍

Lol they love funny pronuoncations round here like Slaithwaite is said Slough-it! Pity we missed your start or we could have popped out for a few miles encouragement.

Good scenery today Anthony, interesting to know about the monument and as for the the feet debate, I’m impressed that your family are ahead of you in the running. Normally hikers win that competition hands down! 😂Another good day.

The goings good.👍 Oh yea, we camped in the car park of the white house pub after getting completely sloshed. There was a foot of snow and it was minus 10. We had to melt out boots in the morning to get them on. We wanted to sleep on the floor in the pub but the landlady was having none of it. 🤣🤣🤣

Greetings from Australia. Love the video record of the walk you are making Anthony. Oh for the life of an English gentleman rambler - pub lunches and hot showers at the end of the day in a B&B. Great stuff. Cheers.

With the views you are getting TV shows would be playing Elgar, Ralph Vaughan Williams - English Folk Songs - Suite, even the Radio 4 UK Theme. Keep going. One of the better Pennine Way series.

It's good to be able to catch up with your videos now, Anthony and I hope you're still progressing well beyond your latest (I'll catch up soon). I finished the Cleveland Way almost twenty four hours ago and got home very late last night. Videos will follow in time. I even gave you a mention in one, as I turned east away from my view of the Pennines. I look forward to catching up with your journey and again, hope you're doing well. You probably also had one day or evening of bad weather! ;-)

Thanks Olly and well done for completing the CW. Looking forward to seeing your videos from the trail. The PW is still going well. Can’t believe I’ve only got 4 days to go. Going back to work next week will be hard!

Ha ha ha! I have exactly the same thoughts with high bridges and other precarious places! Thanks for the mention at White Hill trig, which is the highest point within my village boundary so has real significance for me 🙂. I'm impressed with the taxi driver....yes it is pronounced 'Stanedge'. Saddleworth author Ammon Wrigley hated the addition of the 'd' and you won't see it used in his writings. I thoroughly enjoyed that Anthony.....seeing my local patch from someone else's perspective. Best wishes, Chris

Thanks Chris. I had a really enjoyable day yesterday. The M62 bridge is a bit too precarious for me. I won’t be going to the edge of Malham Cove either for similar reasons 😆

@@AnthonyJohnson1 The feeling you have on a bridge is a thing, and even has a name - L'appel du vide, or 'call of the void'. Don't worry, it's a common feeling and doesn't have dark connotations, just your brain's way of dealing with danger, actually reinforcing how dangerous it would be to do the thing that passes through your thoughts, so helping you to stay safe. I'm not a doctor, I only know about it as I researched it for a painting I did of the same name :) Keep on trucking, watching your journey with interest!

Another good day Anthony 👍 thats the beauty of wild camping you don't have to vere far off the trail ea night. but not quite the luxury of b&bs. atb daz
@AnthonyJohnson12 жыл бұрын
Thanks Daz. Definitely an advantage to wild camping. Having said that, I wouldn’t have wanted to camp on Bleaklow on the first night in that thunderstorm!

I remembered the reservoir before Hebden Bridge think was called Warlan? pitched my tent there and di a skinny dip in the morning, never again it was frigging freezing, everything went inwards!! I remember the memorial as thought the film was in ref to that tower as it has 39 steps, which I counted as like you it was pitched darkness in there, you didn't miss much not getting to the top
@AnthonyJohnson12 жыл бұрын
Thanks Andy. I didn’t fancy climbing the steps. Would have been an accident waiting to happen for someone as clumsy as me!

I live in Delph mate. It is pronounced ‘stanage’ locally. Also called millstone edge just to confuse things.

Another great video Anthony, regarding your walking shoes, they look more like trainers I’m more used to hard walking boots but are these the norm now for hill walking. I thought your toes would take a beating walking miles and miles in trainers 😂
@AnthonyJohnson12 жыл бұрын
I wore trail running shoes which are a beefed up trainer with better grip. I prefer them as they are so much lighter than boots and dry really quickly when wet. I did use waterproof socks on really wet days though to keep the feet dry

Crack on Anthony, looks like you're enjoying yourself, keeping up morale and are in fine form. I was near Otterburn this weekend supporting a team doing a 40 mile/30lb competition, part of the route took in part of the Northern Pennine Way. You'll probably cover that part on your penultimate day, I look forward to it.

It’s going well please don’t jump off a bridge just yet 😂. Staying at b&b’s must be really nice at end of tiring day but downside is extra miles you have to do rather than walking till you drop and getting in a Bivvy bag 👍
