I went out on a date with a guy who told me that he needs to keep the date short because he is worried about getting back home so the dog can be left out to do its business. That was the last and only date he got with me.😂

I agree, this dude didn’t do a great job of getting a point across about people and pets but I DO happen to understand the point he was trying to make thru all his personality defects. I see these people all the time and it’s truly nauseating to watch them treat their pets like babies. It’s not at all healthy for the pets to live like that. Always wearing clothes and shoes and never being allowed to actually walk anywhere. I’ve actually seen people in restaurants with their dogs at the table with a place setting. If it was only once in a while it would be ok, but it’s spreading like wild fire. I love my dogs, they are my very best friends, they are pampered but not ruined.

I agree about your thoughts on both cats and dogs. I live in an urban trendy neighborhood filled with retired couples that set their dogs at outdoor restaurant chairs to eat. Young people walk them while looking at an iPad or iPhone and don't clean up their poop. Then there are old lesbian couples that put clothes on their dogs and push them around in baby carriages. I've often wanted to move back to a rural area because people are getting stranger by the day regarding pets. It's a failing society with many issues.

I spent 22 years as a British Royal Marine Commando attack dog handler - listen carefully; DOGS ARE NOT YOUR CHILDREN, THEY ARE YOUR PETS. Dogs need a firm hand, boundaries, they are bloody pack animals for crying out loud and they end up a mess when these people treat them like humans; dressing them up in clothes, talking to them like little babies, pushing them around in pushchairs and prams, setting them a place at the table and so on. Dog's don't like it you know, they don't enjoy it, in fact it's a form of cruelty. Let your dog be a dog, love him, by all means - I loved every dog I've had whether on duty or at home - but for F**k give them the obedience training and boundaries they thrive on, otherwise, by treating them like a human, like a little baby, dressing them up and so on, you're not only frustrating and confusing your animal, you're unwittingly being cruel to it by extension.

It's not my responsibility to aid children that I didn't make. I prefer helping out animals over children or people in general. Call me sick if you want. I truly feel called to taking care of animals that people have abandoned, abused or neglected. Yes my home is like a mini zoo full of my foster fur babies. The thing is humans have choice to bring children into a situation where they will suffer. Animals don't have choice, they function on instinct. They also have no legal protection that humans have. So I'll prioritise them over irresponsible peoples consequences.

Agreed. Everything you are saying I say myself. People seem to think I'm heartless because I don't want anything to do with owning and keeping pets/animals. I think it shows how much compassion I have BECAUSE I don't want to have animals. I want them to be free in nature as we are. Well, we have limitations, boundaries and rules to follow in society, but we're relatively free. I don't like the fact that they shed and hair is in everything. Plus it's just silly to be an adult and talking with animals. I also don't even keep plants inside of the home. I keep it like an architect home. You're right about our ego and about people refusing to create families. They will take a pet instead of having real children who they can raise. What are they afraid of?

My mother has been talking to the house cats more and more as she's been aging, and is losing her marbles. She does it more ever day, I'm starting to get worried :S I also dislike urban areas, and wish to live in a peaceful rural area cus it feels less alienating, than a busy city. I've been living in metropolises all of my life, and am sick of the superficiality, alienation and confusion.

Pet's are sentient beings too. Every animal has it's own personality, it's own likes and dislikes. I don't treat them as pets or animals. They understand the world around them just as you do. Just because you don't understand them doesn't mean others don't. Some of us can even talk to them and each understands the other...

What are you talking about, I get along fairly well with animals. Tons of people want to kill dogs, believe me, because of how annoying they are. But we'd never actually do that. I don't follow your logic about animals needing to be pets since we've "taken" their habitat. Most breeds of dogs which are used as pets wouldn't survive for a few days in the wild. We've bred entire species of dogs for our own egos. Based on your apparent idea that humans should never take away from "animal habitat", I should stop cleaning my house so insects will find it more habitable. You mention the house I built in Africa. That hectare was a bramble patch filled with poisonous snakes and malaria carrying mosquitoes which were a threat to the hundreds of school children adjacent to the property. By your logic, land should be left undeveloped. Yeah, that's right I'm just a capitalist who's interested in luxury. Guess what, for daily life to continue on this planet animals have to suffer and die constantly. It probably does suck for them. But though they have feelings and can suffer, their consciousness is ultimately of a completely different order. And if souls do evolve, then animals can one day escape to another existence - I don't know as a human, but something different. For the meantime, animals are in their state because that's just what they are, not because humans are terrible and seek to destroy all animals.

I remember growing up my family have had over 5-13 pets at a time. Being autistic the amount of noise/issue those pets gave us through that time was a nightmare for myself. My folks (whole I care deeply for them) are doing so to fill the void of kids. They want to give/ receive the attention that human children give. Pets are treated as items/substitutes used to distract us from our own issues and keep us from resolving them and moving forward. And at the end of the day besides hunting, chemical/compond detecting animals, no one should own a animal besides for the purpose of live stock.

Some of us don't have a choice......not being able to have kids almost made me give up. I try to do what I do for the community to keep my mind occupied but it never truly goes away. My dog helps.....gives me something to take care of, to teach...... It doesn't completely fill that hole I feel, but it does help Some perspective

I am a woman who lives alone with my cat and dog. I work remote on a computer a long time every day. Many peoples lives have become sedentary with technology. My dog helps me to discipline us both since we need to exercise and keep healthy my dog helps keep me safe walking alone while I enjoy the nature. My cat also has a job I live near a forest in a rural area...he is a good mouser. Cats are also very good at the end of the day they help alleviate stress when they purr and are stroked. I agree the are soulful and in my case we live together in a natural existence...My dog is a husky and I took it from someone in a town so I agree dogs should not be in cities.

I’m an unapologetic animal lover. I’ve got 2 cats, a dog and we plan on trying for a kid next year as well. I disagree with most of your assertions. Having kids or pets isn’t mutually exclusive.
