i'm glad they had mrs. clay look discomposed during sir walter's rant about mrs. smith.

I like Ann Firbank in this production. I can understand why people are unhappy about her being too old to play the role of Anne Elliot (Firbank was 38 at the time) but I feel that she does it with a lot of thought and sensitivity. She presents Anne's depth of character very well, even through the mode of early 19th century formality. It's refreshingly different from the more emotive but equally enjoyable later versions of 'Persuasion'. Their differences all have successes and failures within them and are all the more interesting for it. Thank you for uploading this series.

Well said, i would rather visit Mrs Smith at Westgate Building's, than socialise with such snobby buffoons as Mr Eliot, even if i was on £25,000 a year i'd want the BEST company. Nothing less would do.

I never understood why the elder sister never intended to marry Mr Elliot. She would be the wive of the heir, and a married woman. Instead, she entertained herself with that woman and let Mr Elliot to court Anne

But in the book she most definitely did intent to marry him. ;)

+zauza marisa I mean later, when Mr Eliott came back in friendly maner and started courting Anne. If she would had played her cards well, she could have offered him her hand as the elder sister, securing all the money with the marriage.

The way I see it, Miss Elliot is too self centered and cares too little about Anne to even conceive the thought that Mr. Elliot could court any other lady least of all her sister. He did court her before his marriage and she well expects him do do it now. She has so little consideration for Anne whom she sees more like the housekeeper and so much for herself that she is blind to him courting both Anne and Mrs.Clay, her particular friend whom she prefers to any of her sisters. We do not see it in this adaptation , but in all others and in the book we can see how Elizabeth , slowly starts being annoyed and rather unpleasant to Anne and even to Mr. Elliot a little, when she figures out his interest is not in her and that everyone in Bath is gossiping about Mr. Elliot and Anne's engagement, she even tries to set her attentions on Frederick right at the end.

*SIGH* HOW BORING and FAKE Mr. Elliot is!!! Rank and connection that's ALL they thought about back then; there's more to life then that. Like love and friendship!!! I wouldn't have gone either; I'm sorry; to be in the company of people that wont care if I'm there; or someone who WANTS my company; hm......AND yelling at me to change my mind WANT change it!!!
