He lived in my city and was a friend of my fathers. I remember meeting him when I was very young. He was as intimidating as his large bass. When my father cried over his death, like I had never seen him cry before, I new that Peter Kowald had to be someone worth remembering.

Peter Kowald was for me the epitome of double bass playing and improvisational music. I had the privilage and honor to see him live back in the late 70's, in solo settings, in duos with with Evan Parker, the great trio with Wadada Leo Smith and Guenter "baby Zommer and even with Globe Unit Orchestra. He was a beatiful human being and ahead of his times.

the master playing wonderfully. And i would describe this as a mediocre effort in the realm of his repertoire. he's that magnificent!

When was this concert? I thought he Peter passed around 2002.
