Where do you recommend to return the ball in singles when your opponent is serving from the odd side, and what will your next shot be? Thank you!
@primetimepickleball
@primetimepickleball 3 жыл бұрын
Definitely depends on the situation. There’s always three general options for the return. DTL, cross court, and to the middle of the court. We will get into this in a future video! In a short answer, whatever shot would make them feel the most uncomfortable and the most pressure!

I know in tennis they talk about returning to the middle to limit the opponent’s angles. Do you feel that it’s less important in pickleball?
@primetimepickleball
@primetimepickleball 3 жыл бұрын
No, this is VERY important. May touch on this in a future video!

Jordon, since you come up to thw net, does she has an option to lob it on her forehand shot?
@primetimepickleball
@primetimepickleball 3 жыл бұрын
Of course she has this option! Although her lob needs to be quite perfect because any mediocre lob would most likely end in her losing the point.

@@primetimepickleball .. Thanks a lot Jordon..Also, could you tell if in mens/mix doubles, is it wise to stay back by the line for few shots and come upto the net? My both partners kinda do that often...and while they are behind me, is it necessary to look over my shoulder where they are hitting back? I usually looking upto my opponents movements and adjust there...

Singles is totally different than doubles. Whenever you have the opportunity to come to the net in doubles, you should immediately. Generally, there is no reason to hang back near the baseline unless you are defending or if you are not making your opponents hit up on the ball. If you are hitting great 3rd shot drops, you should try to come as close to the NVZ as possible.

I do look at my opponents hit the ball so that I can decide if I need to defend or if I can be aggressive.
@charleysweet235

@@primetimepickleball The only other reason to hang back is that you're a slow old fart who can barely get to the net in time, and if you do, you can't reliably defend more than a pitiful fraction of it. Which begs the question, I guess, Why are you playing singles if you're a hopeless geezer? Well, all I can say - and you're talking to a slow old fart here - is that I love the crap out of singles PB! Pro instructors and tournament commentators somehow routinely miss this factor and seem to love to beat up on the women players, especially, who are also challenged to do what a Jordan or a Ben or a Tyson can do. That said, I couldn't agree with you more that coming to the net after the return is a crucially important tactic - it's just that some of us have pick our spots.

Another reason is if you approach cross court, you may not have time to cover the down the line pass.
